  1. Dr. Feller, Excellent...actually, the line I drew was the best I could do, but gives a (very) general idea. I think that taking care of the hairline, plus adding density on top, will be another nice step forward! We'd talked around 3500-3800 grafts; I'll be sure to follow the "Jotronic" scalp exercise routine beforehand... Benjamin
  2. Dr. Feller...thanks! I think it came out great, too, and am eager to "finish it off" this August... To and your team go the kudos... Benjamin
  3. Thana...I agree with all here, you are a true cunning linguist... Now go enjoy that mop, ya early-growing bastard
  4. ta, Thanks...and no envy needed; based on your own photos, you are in for some great changes yourself...! Benjamin
  5. Hello all -- after an absurd amount of time, I have pictures that pick up roughly where my existing blog (on this site) leaves off. Most are "live" shots rather than the right-view, left-view, top-view format that we use here, which may actually be more useful for showing how the hair looks naturally in different settings. I've used Blogger for this because I've found it to be more flexible and readable, not to mention a more efficient way to get photos from my computer. Hopefully, those who read it will agree. So, enjoy, and please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I will be adding photos to it regularly. http://theaffairofthehair.blogspot.com/ Benjamin

  7. This sounds familiar -- in the first month or so after my own transplant, I also saw soggy bits around the grafts. I wrote it off to part of the healing process, and everything grew in just fine. That said, I'm sure that a doctor, if not your doctor, could shed (so to speak) some more accurate medical light on exactly what that is. Benjamin
  8. Than (nickname for a nickname), Damn fine results...a couple of questions, though; 1) is the first photo a "before" shot? 2) They're all dated 2004. Looks great, congratulations! Benjamin
  9. I'd second Bill' statement, and add, I have a personal bias against tanning at all, after what turned out to be a minor skin cancer removal several months ago... That said, yes, Dr. Feller as I recall also said that the absolutely-no-sun restriction was only for the first few months. Benjamin
  10. ...the pictures from my consultation with you, in Dr. Lindsay's (temporary) digs, in December '07? I'm curious to see how they came out and would like to add them to my blog... Looking forward to August 25! Benjamin

  12. Hey...thanks for the positive comments, and, yes, Bill, the red is a very rough amateur drawing of part of what Dr. Feller and I had in mind for Procedure Number Two, this August. More photos are forthcoming ASAP...! Benjamin
  13. I've created a photo album; photos I took today are up...a rough sketch of planned procedure #2!
  14. These are the most recent (as in, taken 6/1/08) photos of my transplant results, after my procedure of 4200 grafts on 6/19/06 with Dr. Feller. The red marks are my rough drawing of my planned second procedure goals, which include: 1) Lowering the hairline to the approximate position shown in red in the photos, and 2) As not shown in the photos, adding density to the top, to the areas extending backward from the temples. Based on my consultation with Dr. Feller in December 2007, somewhere around 3500 grafts are in the plan...assuming that more are not available, of course... Benjamin
  15. Bill (and everyone), Yes, my plan is approximately 3500 (or more if my scalp cooperates) grafts on 8/25/08. What we discussed was... * lowering the hairline further, which would pretty much return it to its pre-receding state. For me, this works fine, because I've had an eight-head since I was a kid (family trait)... * Filling in the behind-the-temple area. I still don't know what the "technical" term for this is -- basically, the area extending backward from the actual temples. Dr. Feller recommended, given my hairstryle (parted on the left and will always be), packing the left area more than the right, such that it would look balanced to the eye but give me a little more "bulk" where it was most evident. I took a few basic ink-marked photos showing, roughly, what we had in mind, hairline-wise. It also shows the transplant results at the almost-2-year mark, combed back...will post them here wherever is permissible... Benjamin
  16. Hello...at 8 months, it has gone from "graft" to "an integral part of your scalp" (if I understand this whole thing correctly)...so, no, there's no way that you damaged the follicle. If you look at my photos, at the two-month point I had a nasty cut in my head, right in the middle of a transplanted area (tall guy...low doorframe)...and once it healed the hairs were growing exactly as they had been. Dr. Feller said in one of his numerous posts here that the scalp can take a remarkable amount of punishment...I'd agree! Enjoy yout growth, Benjamin
  17. ThisGuy, I had a consultation with Dr. (Edwin) Epstein, in Richmond, in 2005. Most of the time was spent with a consultant in his front office (not a doctor), who suggested 1600 grafts...less than half of what Dr. Feller both suggested and did, about a year later. Dr. Epstein then came in briefly, toward the end, drew a quick line on my head, and frankly seemed impatient when I expressed hesitation at the line he drew. Dr. Feller, by contrast, took ample time, answered all my questions, and in general seemed far more interested in my goals/needs. So for me it was an easy decision Granted, Dr. Epstein was the first surgeon I had consulted, when I was just starting my search. I'd agree with Bill about travel...even if you go up to NY, in theory you're talking about maybe $100-150 for a hotel room (depending on where you stay), plus bus or train fare, and you're already investing thousands in the procedure. So...I'd emphatically say that it's better to focus on the doctor and his/her reputation and skill, regardless. That said, Dr. Lindsey is not only skilled (you can see his work on this site) but closely affiliated with Dr. Feller, who has many photos and glowing personal recommendations to his credit...and is only about 3.5 hours from the Tidewater area, give or take. So I'd at least make a road trip of it... Best wishes to you, and ask as many questions as you like... Benjamin
  18. Hello All, Haven't posted here in a very long time...as some remember, I had 4200g with Dr. Feller nearly two years ago (hard to believe it has been that long), and very glad that I did! I have partly finished an actual blog of photos from the daty of the procedure (6/17/06) through now, which I'll try to get done this weekend. Most of them are "real life" pictures (outdoors, etc.), so I hope they'll give you a realistic picture of the results. Dr. Feller also took some "after" photos this past December, when I went to see him at Dr. Lindsey's office (his temporary digs) in Northern Virginia, and hopefully they will make it on this site soon, as well! And on a related note, I am on Dr. Feller's calendar for this August 25, after my wedding in the summer... Hope all are doing well and growing rapidly... Benjamin

  20. Dr. Mohmand, You've gotten some impressive results against decent odds..."NW7" or close baldness, and very dark hair (which may be a plus, I don't know...but it seems to me that unnatural placement would be more evident with dark hair). Benjamin
  21. Nic, Amazing results...enjoy! I agree with you about life speeding up at 35...mine right now is speeding toward a summer wedding, which is damned exciting... Benjamin
  22. Graff, Speaking purely from my own experience, I was immensely pleased with Dr. Feller's work (4200g), and am going back to him for more! Speaking of old pictures; my own blog is out of date... Regarding Dr. Feller's website, and perhaps other doctors' sites...sometimes, maybe even often, what you see there is only a small sample of the doctor's work. If you look through the "Photo Albums" section of this website, you will see many high-quality of photos from a variety of surgeons, Dr. Feller most definitely included. Benjamin
  23. Pete -- Missed the area you're talking about, before..looking at it again, yeah, it looks uneven. However...and I would definitely get an expert opinion, but from what I understand, bumping your head (unless it was, say, the day of the procedure and the grafts hadn't "set" yet) wouldn't cause that. Either way, good growing to you...! Benjamin
  24. Vince -- true, but Dr. Feller wouldn't partner with someone who didn't have his complete confidence! I'm sure that Dr. Lindsey will continue to post photos and participate on this site...and perhaps Pat will drive Hair Force One southward on I-95 one of these days! Benjamin
  25. When I had my procedure done (4200 grafts = long-ass day), after excising the strip and making the incisions, Dr. Feller was mostly in his office while his team was placing the grafts, but came in periodically to check, and had a webcam on the whole time...at one point I apparently looked especially uncomfortable, and he came in to check on my drug intake ... All of which sounds like the norm, and was certainly OK with me... Benjamin
