lol. Don't worry, he's not getting jacked or anything. It's actually pretty awesome. My personal trainer got me on it. Take some of that stuff and you REALLY want to work out.

I used NO Xplode before workouts, but only if I am having problems waking up or am about to do a really intense workout. I'd say wait a while, but I am not a doctor, so you might want to get another opinion. =)

Hi all. I just got back from a consultation with Dr. Rose this morning, and wanted to share my experience on the boards for anyone who might be interested. I walked in, got some forms to fill out, and a photocopied article by Dr. Rose from a copy of the 1998 Journal of Cosmetic Surgery outlining how to create a natural hairline. When I was called back, I got a chance to chat with his lead tech, Laura, for a bit, and then met Dr. Rose. Dr. Rose was very friendly and accommodating. I actually found out something I didn't know about him (and asked his permission to share before I posted it on the boards). Dr. Rose received a Hair Transplant about 10 years ago from Dr. Shapiro! This may sound silly, but for all the research and all the posts I've made, I have never actually sat down one on one with someone who actually had the procedure done. Several have been kind enough to offer and I'll be contacting them soon (wanthairs, Bill... thank you both!), but Dr. Rose was the first one I had ever actually seen. He told me the scar was not that great because it had been done so long ago, and let me see it. I'd say from my quick glance that it was about 1/16th of an inch wide (again, just my brief guesstimation). Beyond that though, I couldn't tell at all. We talked a little bit about Propecia, and he was kind enough to write me a prescription for Proscar. Didn't even charge me! =) We also chatted a little bit about the laser comb... he feels it's a bit of a sham from what I gathered (which is pretty in-line with most of us on the boards). Then we talked about his time with SMG, and what he's doing now in Florida. He now works with the Academic Alliance in Dermatology on Webb road. I asked him how many procedures hes done, and he said "thousands". I told him how active I am on the boards here (he was impressed that I knew exactly how many fu's/sqcm I wanted and where... lol) and how a lot of us would really like to see more of his work. We chatted a bit about some of the other Doc's. He had good things to say about almost all of them. He mentioned that he felt H&W were a little too aggressive for his taste, and he felt that this increased the risk for stretch back of the donor area. He said he thought they did great work though, and had helped a lot of people. His assistant, Laura, showed me some photos of 2 of his previous patients, and a few of his LEDGE closures. I had never seen these photos online, and she said that they were recent patients. The photos on the wall of the office were one of the same 4 I saw on his website and this one. She promised to send me some more photos though, so I'll be looking forward to those. Laura also told me something that kind of surprised me. When I asked how many techs Dr. Rose had and their level of experience, she told me that all their techs had 10+ years of experience and that their techs were subcontractors. She said that this was standard in the HT industry, and their lifestyle was to fly around a lot to preform procedures with different doctors. Does this sound right to everyone? Dr. Rose asked me what I did, and I told him I was a web designer. He smiled and told me that one of the patients in the clinic was a 2 year old girl with cancer, who's mom was a single mother and could not afford some of the stuff she needed. He asked if I'd be willing to help with a website for the fund raiser. Well, of course I said yes. He smiled and offered to give me a discount. lol Dr. Rose drew a hairline that was more conservative than I would have hoped, and told me that he would shoot for 2500-3000 grafts (H&W gave me an estimate of 4000 in my online consult). He checked my donor density and I had about 75fu/sqcm, which he felt was average. He said that if he took a strip 1.3cm x 28cm, we could probably get what we needed. We both agreed to focus mainly on the front and not bother with the crown at this point. His assistant Laura gave me 4 names and numbers of his previous patients that I'll be contacting... 3 men and 1 woman. She also said that she would arrange for me to view a live surgery or 2, and would try to get me back in to meet other patients who were coming in for follow-ups. All in all, it was a good experience. I'd love to know what some of the vets think, as this was my first consult with a HT Doc NOT online. I have an in-person consult scheduled with Dr. Hasson Oct 1st, and one with Dr. Epstein Oct 19th. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. -Steve

Just wanted to let everyone know what Pat said about Dr Rose: Steve, I think Dr. Rose does very high quality work. Although his session sizes are not real big. I did a surgery with him and I was pleased. I suggest you consult with him. Best wishes, Pat

Um... I didn't see anyone bashing anyone. All I saw was an upset Bosley girl. Maybe I am missing something, but let me throw in my 2 cents as a newbie to the forums and a potential client of any good doc who can give me great results. I don't know Grace, nor have I ever posted in any thread having to do with her till this point. With that said, let me say this in all kindness: If I ever saw a Doc or a rep of a Doc spouting off like she does on a forum for patients, I would immediately cross them off my list of potentials and move on. Just based on the way you react to people Grace, I'd never consider going to your clinic. Call me closed minded, but its my head. More free advice: people like myself are won over by calm, non-defensive presentation of the facts, and evidence to back up their claims. *shrugs* Good luck to you.

PJ, it would help us help you if you could give us some pictures to look at. I feel for ya... I am 27 and started losing my hair at around 19. You don't need to take propecia, bit I would suggest it strongly. Guys like us losing our hair early means that we will probably keep losing it Again, its that risk/benefit ratio that you have to decide on for yourself.

Also, I sent a PM to Pat asking him to comment about his experience on this thread (cant remember who asked for this). Hopefully we will hear from him soon.

Hmm. Well, your questions are kind of subjective. For example, the amount it will cost depends on the number of grafts you need. And then, the number of grafts is influenced by the numbers of 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's. On top of that, the cost per graft depends on session size. 2000 or less and you are probably paying $4-$6 a graft, over that you are probably paying less. And of course, all of this depends on the clinic you choose. A good rule of thumb for finding out how many grafts you need is to check out your Norwood level, and then multiply that by 1000. Then figure cost from there. As far a Propecia, it is an anti-androgen, so its not a small deal. But side effects have been non-existent for me... you really need to check it out for yourself, and don't look at the internet postings for advice. I've found that there are some people out there who would take a sugar pill and swear it made their muscles decay, hair fall out, head throb nonstop, and make them impotent. If you don't believe me, search google for "diet coke side effects". I know this is a hot topic on here for some, with one side screaming "MEDS ARE THE DEVIL!" and the other yelling "TAKE PROSCAR OR BE BALD FOREVER!" I'm not going to get into all that. I'm just going to tell you to make up your own mind after educating yourself on the risks and rewards. Good luck.

Thats a tough one. If you aren't afraid of using concealers, I would give Toppik, Dermmatch, or Prothik a shot. I have used them since I was 19. I hate them with a passion and dream of the day when I might not have to rely on them, but they get the job done. Hope this helps.
