  1. Aren't people not allowed to advertise hair loss products on the forums? "Order now to start using my technique"? Comeon baldhater... I think most of us have lost enough money to snake oil salesmen.
  2. Just curious... I saw a few people who removed the staples themselves after surgery. This idea doesn't really fill my heart with joy. If I travel from my first HT, and then come back the next day, is it possible to visit another HT surgeon in my area to have the staples removed? Or any doctor could do it I suppose, right?

  4. I can report this from personal experience: My hair loss bothers me a lot at age 27. I took Propecia, and stuck with minoxidil for a good 3 weeks before I was forced to stop because of some terrible irritation I experienced. I wanted to throw everything I had at the hair loss problem, but nothing was worth walking around with your scalp itching like crazy. My dermatologist even prescribed some special shampoo and a cream, but none of it helped, so I finally gave up. When the foam came out, I did some research because my dermatologist told me that they had removed an inert ingredient that a lot of people were having problems with. I was hesitant to start again because I didn't want to go through the initial shadding only to find out I was still itching like crazy, so I put it off for a bit. I am happy to say that when I finally caved and tried it, there was no itching or irritation. It's still messy, but not irritating. I've been using it for more than a month now. Another downside with the foam, however, is that it seems like you go through it a lot faster. I went through 2 bottles in the last month. Anyway, hope this helps!
  5. I respect Folica, and his opinion is the viewpoint on the other side of the fence from mine. Both are valid. However, if you take my advice, you end up not losing your hair. Once its gone, it isn't coming back. You can rearrange the hair you have with transplants, but nothing you lose is going to regrow. Both Propecia and minox require at least a follicle to work with. If you let them die and your head is shiney, on the other hand... Just my 2 cents =)
  6. You look like you have a lot of hair bro. Not that I can't empathize with you, but you might wanna get on a Finasteride/Minoxidil combo and go with some concealers like Toppik or Prothik if it bothers you that much.
  7. This is a good question. I heard Dr. Epstien has his patients use it post op, and it really helps in getting those newly transplanted hairs growing. Of course, not being a patient of Dr. E, I don't really know anything for sure. I'd like to know too.
  8. I would definitely take option 3, with perhaps some Nizoral thrown in. The (known) side effects of Propecia, from what I understand, are close to nothing. DHT is an androgen, very important in the developmental stages of life, but not so much later in life. Less than 2% of the people who take it reported side effects, and those were mild. Trust me, you want to get on it sooner rather than later. I wonder how much hair I could have saved if I had been on it a few years before I actually was. Anyway, thats just my advice. =)
  9. Bill, that was an amazing post man. Truly heartfelt. It's so encouraging to have a forum like this where guys like us can finally come to get REAL. I read Cravens post and I could empathize with him. I've never gone so far to think about suicide, but I know exactly what it means to always worry about your hair loss... to have it constantly on your mind. I use concealers, which are a help but a constant source of worry for me... Just this week I was at church and got called on stage, quite unexpectedly, to be recognized for something, and all I could think was "Oh my gosh, all those lights pointing right at the stage, are they going to be able to tell? Right in front of everyone?!" I am normally a confident and sure spoken guy, but up on stage I looked awkward and petrified, as my friends told me later. All I wanted to go was get off that stage. It's little things like that... a girl you are attracted to glancing at your hairline, having to turn down a group of friends who invite you to the beach, holding everyones stuff while they go ride the roller coasters, wearing a hat all the time, avoiding situations where you will have to take your hat off... all these things cost you a little bit of your life, and over time they add up and take a huge toll on your self image. So Craven, totally hear you man. I am 27... I have my whole life ahead of me... and I feel like there is so much possibility in front of me and so much I can accomplish and contribute... but first,I really just need to fix this hair loss thing. Like Bill said, the hair doesn't make the man. But feeling good about yourself is all-important. A great author I know once wrote "People will watch you carefully to see what you think about yourself. After all, you are the best source of information on that subject." Very true! Good luck with Shapiro, and please, PLEASE document everything online! Being able to look and see that others have gone before you is a great help... be sure to pay it forward. =)
  10. In Plano, Texas... has anyone ever heard of this guy? He has a bunch of videos on youtube featuring his trichophytic closure and URFUT... but hes not a coalition doc nor have I ever heard of him.

  12. I like the foam a lot better. Where the liquid would make my scalp so itchy that I couldn't use it anymore, the foam is a lot less messy and doesn't irritate my scalp at all. I heard that they removed an inert ingredient that a lot of people were allergic to in the foam. Hope that helps.
  13. Yeah, I noticed what seemed to be a little loss at the end too, but I'm not sure if thats actually there, or due to the use of a new camera. Thats why I wanted opinions though, so thank you. =) Does it look like there is a difference between the 7-7 pics and the 7-27 pics? Three weeks can't make that huge of a difference, right? And folica, thanks for the response... do you really think I might end up at a nw7?
  14. I started using Propecia one year ago to the day, and I've been keeping a chart to track my progress. Around March my camera stopped working. May, I used a borrowed camera, and June I bought a new one of my own. I noticed that with different cameras, my hair loss looks different. What I am hoping is that some of the vets can take a look at this chart and give me their opinion on a few things: 1.) In your opinion, does it looks like I've stabilized my hair loss, or that its getting worse? (keep in mind different cameras) 2.) Anyone have an idea what it looks like the ultimate NW pattern will end up as? 3.) I am 27. Given this past year and its progress, would you recommend a HT? (currently looking at Hasson or Shapiro) 4.) I'm considering about 4000 grafts with one of the above physicians... what do you guys think the results will be if I go through with it? I just started using rogaine foam in addition to Propecia a few weeks ago. Hopefully that will help as well. I really appreciate everyones input. Thank you!

  16. Hey Wanthairs. Didn't get your PM... would you mind shooting it over to me again? I appreciate it. =)
  17. Yeah, absolutely. =) Are you satisfied with your results so far? Were you satisfied with your procedure? If you PM me with your cell, I'll give you a call (or if you prefer, PM me and I'll send you my cell). Thanks =)
  18. Would anyone be willing to meet a prospective HT patient in or around Tampa? Specifically, if anyone has had a procedure with Hasson and Wong or Ron Shapiro, I'd love to buy you dinner sometime. There's free dinner in it for you. I'm a friendly guy, and I'm very curious as I have never met an actual HT patient.

  21. Just curious if anyone knows how one would go about researching a doctors standing with their state medical board? What about doctors in other countries? For example, I know H&W have a stellar reputation on this and other boards, as so several other doctors. Has anyone checked out all these doctors records with their respective medical boards? I think that by doing so and posting the results on this forum, it would be both informative to us newbies, as well as either helpful (or hurtful) to various doctors. I've searched (and will keep searching), but it's a bit tough to find the info. Are doctors in the "coalition" required to have a certain record of excellent work with various medical boards?
