Should I ask for beard grafts to save donor
Al - Moderator replied to Mic_b's topic in Hair Transplant Reviews
No. I disagree. If you are a NW 6 or heading there then I think you should start using BHT from the beginning. Your last two sentences is the reason you don't want to wait. You don't want to use it as a last resort and then not be able to place different hair types (scalp hair vs body hair) in the ideal places. I'm speaking from experience as I have to use beard and chest hair in the frontal hairline area because I don't have any other hair to work with. While I think it will turn out OK for me as my body hair isn't that bad, it's not the ideal area to use it in. -
Transplant to make buzzcut look great?
Al - Moderator replied to mrwoods's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
I do think a buzz cut can look good after a hair transplant if it's done right, but if you are headed for NW 6 or worse, then here is one scenario that can likely happen that you need to be careful of... and this is if everything goes well. 1. You get 2500 FUE grafts to add density to your thinning, so you can get a good buzz cut that looks full. 2500 grafts is not so much, so you still have good looking donor 2. A few years later you lost some more of your original hair, so you add another 2000 FUE grafts to thicken it up again. 3. Another few years later and the rest of the original hair is gone, so you add another 1500 FUE grafts. 4. Now the problem is you have a thin donor from all of the FUE that was done and you don't look good with a buzz cut, so now you want to shave it all, but you look even worse shaving down to nothing because now that you have 6000+ FUE scars, all those scars look even worse than when it was buzzed. What do you do now? That is the issue that you *could* run into, so be careful with what you decide to do. If you do decide to get it done, you have to make sure you don't try to get a low hairline. That's what Gatsby was referring to when he said "if you have Norwood 6 now at 23 you need to abandon the idea of a 'hair style' you want now and you need to be realistic with what 'illusion of hair' can be achieved years from now in the future." -
Do people judge you for getting a hair transplant? It's not anywhere near as bad as it was 20 or 30 years ago, but with most things, people are always judging and they like to feel like they are right. So if you tell people you are getting a hair transplant, assuming you have a lot of hair loss that easily makes you look like a bald guy, then most of them will tell you to go for it and it's a great idea. If it turns out well they will tell you how it's a good thing you listened to them about getting it done. If it turns out bad they will tell you that you are so stupid for trying that and you should have listened to them about not doing it. So do what you think is best for you and forget about what everyone else says. If you don't want to tell them anything then don't. It's your life.

I think online results posted around the 4 month mark are going to be somewhat skewed towards the early growers because if you have good growth at an early date then you want to tell everyone how great it's going, but if you don't have much (or any) growth yet, then you just wait another month or two because there's nothing to show yet. Of course some people post monthly anyway, but there are going to be a lot of people who simply skip posting because there's no change. When people get some noticeable results is when they tend to post more.

What is realistic?? My expectations
Al - Moderator replied to BlokeFromStoke's topic in Open Hair Loss Topics
They aren't noticeable in certain light because most of them are still very short and thin and don't yet provide any real coverage. You are having great results at just 2 months. Keep at it. Most of those new hairs coming in may continue to grow into long, thick hair. -
losing graft at 2 month !!!
Al - Moderator replied to yacine.drose's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
You are getting too worried about nothing. Even if you lost a graft, it's just one graft. One graft is not going to change the results of your hair transplant. Just relax and go through the waiting time for the hair to grow. -
You will still have a "linear" scar, except instead of the scar looking like this: _______ it will look like this: And those rows of little FUE scars could be worse than the FUT scar in regards to trying to get hair to grow in it. If you are trying to use the best donor area and are planning on filling in the scar with beard hair afterwards, then just do FUT strip surgery.

Is there a solution for my Hair?
Al - Moderator replied to sharkman's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
You should check out Dr Sanusi Umar in Califorina. He handles a lot of extreme cases using body hair. -
It should continue to improve and will probably be completely gone in the next couple of months.

Itchiness on non-transplanted areas
Al - Moderator replied to SeanT1's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
I think itchiness in areas outside the donor and recipient areas is not too unusual in the first couple of weeks after the hair transplant. After that it gets more concentrated towards the actual recipient and donor sites. The donor area is usually more itchy than the recipient area, but it varies. How long ago was your transplant? -
You were on the lower end of average hairs per graft at about 1.67 hairs, so you are going to look like you got less coverage than if you had over 2 hairs per graft. There isn't anything anyone could do about that (assuming they weren't purposely splitting grafts). When you also consider that the original plan was for another session to add density, then I think you are on track. You will probably also get a bit more thickening in the next few months.

I still have some numbness 30+ years after the first transplant, so it's possible it may never fully go away.

This is basically what I would look like if I didn't have any hair transplants, although I think my side hair is a little bit lower and much thinner than his looks in the picture. Unfortunately I have multiple FUT scars from transplants years ago when I had higher and thicker donor hair. Now it's costing a fortune to try to use whatever body hair I can to cover everything. Someone who looks like this guy is going to need 10,000+ body hair grafts (if possible) plus 1000 to 2000 scalp grafts to get anything close to decent coverage.

You would be better off doing FUT strip and then filling in the strip with some beard grafts if needed. If you FUE out all of the grafts in a strip like manner you will end up with a wider strip of scalp with no hair than you would if you just did FUT because with FUT the Dr has to close the strip with either sutures or staples which leaves you with a thinner scar than the width of the strip taken.

help about BHT (chest) docrors
Al - Moderator replied to Fego's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
It's going to be more expensive than using scalp donor because it's a more time consuming procedure. You will not get as many grafts per day as you would with scalp donor. Beard donor is usually preferred over chest donor unless you don't have very much beard growth or you have already used up the beard donor supply. -
This is general advice for you based on your age and current hair loss. No matter who you end up going to, do not go for anything near 4500 grafts to greatly lower your hairline. You will need those grafts later when you lose more hair and you won't have them available if you drastically lower the hairline, plus you will be left with a thick band of low hair with nothing behind it which will look silly I'm not telling you not to get a hair transplant at your age, but you do need to be conservative with where you place the hairline and how dense you try to make it. At your age you want to get to something that is an improvement, but not something that will cause you trouble long term. You can always add more hair or lower the hairline a bit in a few years if you don't lose more hair, but right now you don't want to just throw all your donor grafts at the current situation.
