  1. BTW Spex, when you are talking about wearing a hat, are u talking about just from doctor's office back to your apt. or for an extended time after surgery? if it's just the ride back, how about just pulling a hood over ur head, and then not using anything until you have to go back to work, or do u think that even for that short amount of time, a trucker hat which allows air to the back is advisable?

    Thanks

  2. Hey Guys, after years of indecision, met with DR. Feller about a month ago. Was satisfied with his approach and honesty. Thought some more, and finally set the date for Dec 23, thanks mostly to my GF who wouldn't let me back out this time.

Anyway, i know many of you here have so much experience with HT either personally or through research, so i just have a few questions.

i use toppik and a spray. The night before surgey i want my scalp to be squeaky clean. what is the best shampoo/oil/anything that you guys recommend?

What kind of hat should i take with me for post op? i usually wear a fitted baseball cap, fairly loose. i know knit caps are a no-no.

Is there anything else that i need to to do to get ready for the surgery or anything else post-op that would help. Anything you can think of, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.

Of course, i would go over all these and many more questions with Dr. Feller before the op.

Thanks a bunch, and wish me luck

  3. Why is it that some docs will do these mega sessions and some won't. From what i hear, Dr. Feller is one of the best. I can't believe that its just the level of skill. is it just some docs being conservative by nature? i am from New York and i think it's great that a top surgeon is so close by. At the same time, this is a big decision, so i dont mind flying to canada but only if the results are "significantly" better. Help me out guys.

  4. Thanks. From all the respones, it seems the best thing to do is forget about the crown for now and focus on hairline. I guess i misspoke, my crown is not completey bald, just very very thin. i just thought that 500 grafts could thicken it up a little so that i could conceal it somewhat with toppik or those godawful sprays.

Anyway, i am almost 99% sure that i will go with Dr. Feller. From meeting with him as well as from all the patient reviews, i don't think i could do a whole lot better elsewhere.

I will post some pics soon of what my hair looks like now. Please feel free with your inputs. they are much appreciated.

  5. After cancellling twice (cold feet), finally met Dr. Feller this past friday, my birthday, sorta my gift to myself. Anyway, Dr. feller is every bit the professional many people on here have said over the years. Also, very easy to talk to. Listens to every concern u have. I had a list of questions that he answered each one. I am sure if i had more questions he would take his time and answer them all. Didn't rush me even though he was in the middle of a surgery.

Although the estimate he gave me ( 2800-3000) was much lower than i had expected, or had hoped for, truth is he could have easily have given me a higher number, and squeezed few more grands out of me, which speaks to is integrity and concern for his patients' long term benefits.

basically, i have very little hair left on my top, and Dr. Feller said that the first procedure would be all about dense packing the front 2/3rd. As much as i am ok with that, would it be possible or advisable to do a small number on crown as well ( maybe 500 grafts), just so there is some hair there that i can conceal with toppik? i just dont want a completely bald crown. Is that reasonable or you guys think i should wait? I know many of u have lot more experience with this, so please feel free with your input. i should have asked Dr. Feller but forgot.

Once again, many thanks to Dr. Feller for making my visit with him very informative and comfortable.

  6. in my original post, i mistyped. i meant using toppik effectively after one month mark is iffy at best. i mean, from what i have seen, in cases where they shave heads, the best u can expect is a stubble after one-month (which is the most is can expect to take off from work), and using toppik only helps when you have some hair, even comb-over helps in that case, but with a stubble, it would look clownish.

Thanks for your response guys. i was under the impression that with the advent of very small, almost nano blades, the recovery time would go down dramatically, but guess not yet.Just a matter of toughing it out for the long-term gain.

    Paris.

  7. I was just wondering. With all the advancement in surgical techniques, has there been any improvement in the recovery time. i remember seeing pics a year or so ago, and even after 3 or 4 mos ( in cases where doc shaved the head), you ended up looking worse then before. Say you had some hair, and u are using toppik. after surgery, if they shaved ur head, toppik won't work for at least 3 mos, from what i remember. so everyone at work, and well, elsewhere, knows ur secret now.

So again, has there been any improvement?

Thanks guys. the info i get from this forum is preiceless.

  8. i was curious what people here were using for hair color. i have black hair, which is going gray. i tried a few products ( just for men, MIN) but they gave me some allergic reaction.

Just wanna know what everyone is using, and if there is any hair colors out there without Lead and/or ammonia.

    Thanks a bunch

  9. Hi, i have an appointment with dr. feller soon. i live in brooklyn, work in manhattan. could anyone here tell me the best way to get to his office. his secretary wasn't sure. i was told to get to penn station, catch LIRR train for port washington. has anyone else done that? if so, how far from his office does the train drop you off.

    Thanks.
