  1. Hey guys. Is it normal to be asked to pay the entire balance of a hair transplant procedure a month prior to actually having the surgery? I know a deposit is mandatory but paying for everything before even having the procedure makes me a bit nervous, especially as I will be having it abroad etc.

I’m just wondering if this is standard practise?

    thanks

  2. Hey guys,

I’m currently in the process of contacting clinics to see if they can advise me on my hair loss situation.

I tried to email Dr Mwamba (FUE clinic) but the email bounced back and I received an error message ‘a message you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: info@fueclinic.com mailbox is full: retry timeout exceeded.’

I know Dr Mwamba has (or had?) a clinic called ‘my world hair transplant center’, this website is still online but I was told previously on this forum that FUE clinic was his new website - hence attempting contact via info@fueclinic.com

I would ideally like to make contact with clinics via email. If anyone can help me with this I’d really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  3. Apologies if this has been asked already, but I’m curious as to whether there’s a specific way that growth is measured to assess whether 80% of grafts have grown, e.g. 12 months post-surgery. Do you generally have a check up and have the area measured etc?

Main reason being, when I had a consultation with a UK clinic a while back, they said that 80% yield is classified as a success - I asked ‘how do you measure this’ and the consultant said ‘it’s just obvious’. I’m wondering if reputable doctors generally have a more sophisticated and accurate way of measuring this, or whether it’s just a case of the dr taking a quick look at the growth and saying that it’s 80%.

    Thanks!

This makes absolutely no sense to me. The more grafts the patient gets the more money the surgeon makes and the best result they will have (within limits per square cm2). Why would a surgeon decide to implant such low density?

The only reason why no more grafts are implanted is because we have a limited budget or because it has been planed this way by mutual agreement in two stages. The surgeon can then advice it will not be enough or that a second pass will be required or decide to not perform the surgery. I know Dr Mwamba has a policy of helping everyone and not turning around patients despite how difficult the case might be.

Which part doesn’t make sense? It sounds like we agree 🤨 all I said is that it’s the surgeons job to tell the patient how many grafts are needed to achieve the required visual density, and not vice versa. In the time I’ve been on this forum I haven’t seen any patient posted journeys with hair type resembling mine, there’s no way I’d personally be in a position to be telling the surgeon how many grafts I need, plus that’s not my job.

Obviously the required amount of grafts  to achieve the desired result should be discussed between patient and surgeon prior to having the transplant, that just seems like common sense.

  5. It’s the surgeons job to tell the patient how many grafts they need in order to achieve the required density in my opinion - that’s part of their job… obviously we all do research but we’re not experts. It also doesn’t help that there are barely any afro / curly hair results on here so it makes it a bit harder for us to make an accurate judgement.

@Ajamilo did the clinic say they will do a second procedure to achieve your desired density free of charge, or will you have to pay for this? (Sorry if you’ve already mentioned it in the thread).

  6. It would be good if the doctor could give you some reasons as to why the density is lacking,  hopefully you will get some answers.

How did you make the decision to choose Dr Mwamba? One frustrating thing is that there are barely any patient posted results on here for afro or curly hair, so it’s difficult to make an informed decision. 😕

  7. @Gatsbyout of interest, have you seen any patient posted results (Afro hair or curly hair) done by either Bisanga or Mwamba? I’m aware these two doctors are very well respected on this forum as their names keep getting mentioned everywhere but I can barely find any results. I’m finding it particularly difficult to find many results from Mwamba - the only patient posted results I’ve seen have been on straight hair. If any threads come to mind that would be really helpful.

I had my surgery with Dr Mwamba in NJ about 6 weeks ago, I can tell you he does like 90% of the work himself.   Which is a lot more then then my previous DR in NY and the other Dr I saw in México did.

He rents one of the rooms from a Dermatologist, and she is learning from Dr Mwamba. She says she does HT's too and does help out a little,  as does Dr Mwamba's assistant.   But like I said, the vast majority of the work is all done by Mwamba.

And I will say this...  Dr Mwamba is a beast...   In my 2nd day he worked on me from 10am till 3AM in the morning.   Never rushed and always in a good mood.

Sounds like you had a good experience. Do you have a thread where you’ll be documenting your journey? I’ve heard good things about Mwamba but it seems like there aren’t very many patient posted journeys of his work - unless I’ve somehow missed them!

Fueclinic is his new website, he operates in 3 locations, Belgium, Atlanta, and New Jersey. However, doesn’t do the entire procedure in the US, he has other surgeons help. In Belgium, it’s just him.

    Cool, thanks Melvin 👌🏽

  10. Hey guys,

I’m considering Dr Mwamba but confused as to which clinic he works at in Belgium (or does he have multiple clinics)?

When I search for ‘Dr Mwamba hair transplant’ on google I come across two different websites:

    ‘My world transplant center’

    https://www.mywhtc.net/home

    and

    FUE Clinic

    https://www.fueclinic.com/

I know you can contact recommended doctors through a submission via this website but I want to email the clinic directly.

Thanks in advance to whoever can clarify this!

  11. Hi guys. Just a question as I continue this lengthy research journey into getting a hair transplant.

I’ve seen a few examples of people being being advised to start using minoxidil following a HT (particularly when the result after e.g. 9 months or so has been lacking in density) and I’m just wondering why this would be necessary. Does the minoxidil help to ‘push’ the transplanted hair out from under the skins surface? Would you have to use minoxidil indefinitely to maintain the transplanted hair?

I take finasteride daily and plan on doing so for as long as I can, but minoxidil is something I’d rather avoid - especially if applied topically.

  12. I’m considering starting minoxidil and I’m wondering if anyone has any success stories applying it once a day instead of twice?

I’ve seen conflicting opinions - some say once a day is enough whilst others say twice is essential.

For context, I’d be applying it to my hairline, temples and mid scalp.

  13. Thanks to everyone above for the input. I wonder if e.g. Dr Bisanga would carry out FUE on a scalp with SMP? Not sure if anyone knows.

I’d like to revive this topic and get input from more people, as I’m heavily considering getting SMP soon to disguise the thinning areas  (my temples, hairline, blending back into my mid scalp.) I’m honestly just sick of using hair fibres.

Down the line once I’ve settled on a doctor, I will probably want to get a transplant to lower my hairline slightly (my temples are recessed - Norwood 2, but I think with density on them and behind, it could look decent). I did consider getting a HT in the UK but obviously the results have been mediocre / bad, and I don’t want to spend thousands only to end up with a bad result and lost grafts. It’ll have to be one of the top surgeons in the world - but will wait a few years maybe.

More opinions would be greatly appreciated! I may avoid SMP if it means I won’t be able to get a hair transplant in e.g. 3 years.

  14. Hey all, apologies if a thread like this exists already.

I’m wondering what the best / most important questions are that you should prepare to ask during an initial consultation for an FUE hair transplant, in order to determine whether you’re picking the right doctor/clinic. I feel like the list of questions could potentially be endless, but I’d appreciate your input!

Note: Do you think it’s essential to meet the doctor for an in-person consultation prior to selecting them? My initial consultations will be over FaceTime.

    Thanks guys.
