3 month Update from me, really appreciate the honest advice given here. Based off the posts given here and posts across the forum I decided a HT was simply not for me for a few reasons:
- Risk of surgery leaving me in a worse place via over harvesting/necrosis, I've seen enough horror stories on here 😔
- Upfront cost being simply too much for me (Especially for a good surgeon and even then great results are not a guarantee as pointed out)
- A transplant can't achieve the thickness/texture my old hair hadSo I booked a few consultations around my city and in the end got a frontal Hair System last month
It's been an honest surprise just how good a hair system is. It's somehow less trouble than my old hair would you believe it. I'm not having to style my hair into a dumb frontal comb over which is held up by too much product and hairspray that I spend 15mins in the morning styling. You know it was bad when bedhead looks better than your old styled receeding hair 🥲. I can even go gym and swim in it. Most days I don't even notice I have this thing taped and glued to my head!
Reactions from friends and work were, memorable to say the least
I've also stopped taking oral minoxidil all together as whilst I'm fine rn, I have 0 idea how in 10, 20, 30+ years it will affect me. Still take fin to keep my current hair however, do want to avoid the cost and discomfort of a full HS for now
I also tried a hair system at 23.. I have to say it was a nightmare to maintain. The glue/tape was a total pain and I was very limited to what kind of styles I could go for. Personally I had a hair transplant at 25, I don't regret it.
Hair systems also damage follicles under your head, the concept that your scalp is able to breathe through a hair transplant is simply a myth.
Do what you believe is best, I personally think younger people such as ourselves can get transplants assuming we remain on finasteride.Rooting for you friend!

Hair system at 23 (I could never style it up since the front was so obvious, people pointed out the color difference between my natural hair and hair system hair in the sunlight.. it made me feel more insecure with it. )

You can see traces of shock loss, though I'm not so sure about the closeness of the donor incisions but some to look a little too close, perhaps a more experienced user can give their input.

Let your scalp heal, hair dyes also have bleach in them which can burn your scalp.

It's going to look worse and worse over the next few weeks, this is called the ugly duckling stage. Your hair won't begin to grow for a couple of months.

Wow this is a very interesting theory this. I've been taking Finasteride for ages but never thought of it like this. Where did you read / hear this ??
Hi, it is mentioned here as well as in more detail within the youtube video;

Don't lower your hairline, it's already low enough.
If your family doesn't suffer from hairloss and you just want to reinforce your hair then I don't see why you shouldn't get a transplant if you really want one. By the way your current hair looks nice!

Would not risk it. Sethi is a master, and a few others have got good results with other doctors. But I wouldn't risk it. There have been more than a few not so stellar results.
Does Dr. Sethi still do transplants? I thought it's only Dr. Bansal at Eugenix now.

Personally I had a transplant at 25, my hair was receded much further than yours;

You really can't tell the smp in those pics... But with the skin fade, now I can definitely see the fue scars. I won't go lower then 3 guard, or mine are noticible too.
I'm really on the fence on smp.
Appreciate all the info bro. 👍👍👍
Thanks friend. Yeah to go this short I'd say SMP work on the donor will help. I wonder how light SMP can go for areas like this so it blends well with a skin fade?

Hello everyone, I wanted to see how my donor was looking after all this time so I decided to get a skin fade to see the scars. Here is the result!

Are you considering doing the rest with smp?
Looks good, but you're right I do see where the existing smp ends. How short do you cut your hair in the back, like what size clipper?
Hi friend, I believe that was a grade 2 or 3?
I do intend to do the rest of the SMP after a second hair transplant (for my temples).Today I got it skin faded as I wanted to see how my donor scars looked, here's the result.
You can still see the SMP, though the fade does help blend it in better.

Yes sir here is an example with shorter sides, you can see the outline of SMP.

Like 3 years ago I was ready to get my smp here with Ahead Inc in NJ, after having had one consultation with them, but when I called for the follow up to set up appt, then told me they don't do SMP for density anymore. Said something that about getting mixed resutls.
That's fair, it's trickier to do SMP on a non-shaven head. Several people also do complain about seeing the SMP through the hairline, making it appear more like a tattoo as months pass and it fades from black to grey/blue-ish. Another issue is the color difference between the treated and the non-treated area (sample shown in an earlier post).
I'm personally happy with mine, but without question I think you need to get your entire scalp done if you cut your hair short in order to avoid those color difference issues.

So who have you decided on for a repair ?
Eugenix should be a great choice I think (premium).

The Vera clinic wouldn’t know a 0.8mm punch from a cold chisel!!
Have you heard the theory that larger punches might actually increase the survival rate of hair? This is because the additional larger scarring around the follicles works as a buffer against DHT. I'm not sure if there's much truth to this but it's been recent discussion.

@GatsbyHad complete SMP done before going to Eugenix and his result is incredible.

It’s a quality job for sure, and if it helps keep some back-up donor, it’s well worth it IMHO.
Thank you!
Hoping to get SMP on my donor scars but I'm holding off until I need/get a second transplant first. -
Amazing result, will you be going to the same clinic for your crown also?

Your results came out great.
Where did you get it done?
Thanks sir, dot-micro in Northern Ireland. I think it was something like £1200? I don't recall.

Watching closely, I was also considering a transplant with Dr. Mwamba.
He used to get great reviews however over the past year it seems to be nothing but negative.
-
Traveling can save you a lot of money as long as you do your research correctly and find the right doctor and not a hair mill that may botch your results.
-
Personally had a transplant at 25, FUE. Happy with the results, it's important to stay on finasteride so the transplanted hair and existing hair doesn't recede further.
3 weeks post op. Am I over harvested or shock loss?
