  1. Hello,

I had my second hair transplant around 7 months ago (~3600 grafts, half from the scalp and half from the beard). I'd appreciate it if you could help with the below:

    - At this stage (7 month post-op), how much further improvement can I expect going forward? (given that this is my second procedure and half of the grafts are from the beard)

    - My scalp got sunburnt at 7 months post-op. I know sun exposure is generally not ideal, especially during the first couple of months. Should I be worried at this stage or is it okay?

    Thanks

  2. Hi everyone,

I had my second FUE around 3 months ago. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can provide their advice on the below questions:

1 - I am still shedding a good number of hairs from the recipient area even after almost 11 weeks. I believe they are mostly transplanted hairs. Is that normal?

2 - I stopped using topical minoxidil around 2 years ago (after using it for around 10 years). I felt it wasn't adding any benefits. Would it do any harm to start it again at this stage? I was advised by the clinic but I'm afraid I won't be committing to it long term. I am on Finasteride.

3 - When can I start dermarolling and do I need to do it with a topical medication?

4 - I have developed a flaky scalp which is causing some itching. I use baby shampoo. Any recommendations on what I should do?

    Thanks!

HDC do the work themselves, it is split between Dr. Maras and Dr. Christina, I believe if you choose Dr. Christina it's 2 euros per graft, which is very affordable for a doctor of her caliber.

    Thanks Melvin.

I’m not sure what you mean by “do the work themselves.” I’m also not aware of HLC’s or Ferreira’s protocols.

If you mean the doctor does all of the extractions, incisions, and implantations themselves, with no assistance from a team at all, then no, HDC doesn’t do that (at least not for me). A lot of elite clinics don’t. But they do have a team of techs on staff, and they’ve been there a really long time and do a great job.

Yes, that was my question. Ferreira and Pekiner do everything themselves - the techs and nurses are there just to assist them (separate grafts etc.). This is what I was told. I think HLC are the same but the fact that I don't know which doctor assessed my situation and who will be doing the procedure put me off a bit. Thanks for the information on HDC though. How was your experience and how are the results so far?

  4. Hi all,

I'm a high NW who previously had a hair transplant (not a very successful one) and I'm now looking to go for another one. I've been in contact with Dr. Ferreira, Dr. Pekiner, HLC and HDC. I am more inclined to go with either Dr. Ferreira or Dr. Pekiner because they do everything themselves. I don't have much information about the procedure with HDC. Whereas for HLC, the doctors who will perform the procedure is decided after consultation.

I believe Dr. Ferreira's responses and assessments are unmatched. It feels like he really takes his time to evaluate his patients and gives very detailed and tailored feedback. Dr. Pekiner also seems very meticulous, takes his time and relies on BHT, which is something I need given my limited donor area.

Based on the above, I am looking for advice on whether there is a big difference between these 2 doctors (I believe both are very good at what they do), and whether HLC and HDC are in the same league. I am very concerned about my donor area and would like someone who is experienced with high NWs to take extra care when dealing with it.

Any advice would be highly appreciated :)

    Thanks

  5. Hello,

I've had a hair transplant of 3,400 grafts to the hairline and mid-scalp around 5 years ago when I was 25. The results have been average and I've lost a lot of native hair ever since (would've been a NW6 without the transplant) because I wasn't on Finasteride when I decided to go for surgery. I have been on Finasteride for the past 2 years now. The main issue with my previous hair transplant is the donor area - I feel like it wasn't properly managed and is depleted in some areas, mainly above the ears. My previous surgeon mentioned at the time of surgery that I would have another 2000-2500 grafts for future transplants but I'm not quite sure about that. The plan is to use beard and chest grafts (because I have plenty of those) in addition to grafts from the back of the head.

I am now in the process of choosing another surgeon and prefer to go for 2-3 small surgeries to address the hairline/mid-scalp and add some grafts to the crown, all while maintaining uniformity in the donor area, which is extremely important for me. I spoke with Dr. Ferreira who provided me with a detailed assessment. I really liked his honestly and approach and felt like he would be a great option. However, I believe he increased his prices and has a long waiting list. I was planning to pay something between (~EUR 2-2.5/graft). In addition to Dr. Ferreira, I have Dr. Pekiner (who also increased his prices), HLC and HDC on my list as well as Eugenix, but the latter seems to be doing multiple surgeries per day, which I am not very comfortable with, and going for Dr. Sethi or Dr. Bansal would exceed my budget.

What do you think? And do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

  6. Thank you everyone for your responses. I will try to find an old picture before I started Finasteride and upload it along with a new one to compare.

Having said that, I noticed that I easily lose 250+ hairs everyday and I believe this is a lot given that I've been on Finasteride for over a year now and the fact that my hair loss is very advanced. This is what is making me think that Finasteride is not working. For example, whenever I'm showering and running my fingers through my hair, I can see around 20-25 hairs each time I do that. I can also see around 20 hairs on the pillow everyday when I wake up. 95% of the time, they are short ones as I mentioned earlier (so maybe from the donor area or miniaturized hairs from the crown/donor area).

Most studies are done on 1mg/day dose where they say you can expect more improvement up to 2 years. It also highly depends on how severe your hair loss is.
There's a 10 year Japanese study suggesting that up to NW5 you can expect continuous improvements every year, but if you're NW5 and over, you will plateu in the first 2 years.

From my personal experience, I've seen most improvement AFTER 14 months of being on 1mg/day. Less shedding (to the point I don't see any), more regrowth (nothing crazy though) and hair thickening. Keep in mind I'm NW5a.

I actually did a video recently on this subject if it's of some interest for you

Hi @Rolandas, thanks for your feedback and apologies for the delayed response. I've been following your journey since your first hair transplant with Dr. Ferreira (so for quite a while now) and it has been very helpful. I got in touch with him around a year and a half ago after seeing your videos and I'm planning to go for my second hair transplant if and when my hair loss stabilizes.

The hairs that I am losing (in big amounts although my hair loss is very advanced) are extremely short so they seem to be either very miniaturized ones from the crown or the donor area (the transplanted hair on top is quite long so I'm ruling those out). I started to believe that Finasteride isn't working for me but I'll stay on it for another 6 months-1 year and see if there is any improvement. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. Thanks!

  8. Hi Gillenator,

I've barely missed any of my scheduled days. It's probably one or twice every 4 months.

As for your other questions - I don't think I have side effects. If I do, they're very minimal and not worth mentioning. I dalso on't think I've experienced an initial shed. I've been losing a lot of hair so I don't really remember. I'm almost a NW6 now with one hair transplant to the frontal third + mid-scalp.

Thanks for the feedback and let me know what you think. Could it be that I'm not responding to finasteride?

  9. Hello,

I've been on Finasteride for probably over a year and I'm not sure about the results. I take 1.25mg of Proscar (so a quarter of a Proscar tablet) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I'm not sure if the rate of hair loss has decreased but I still see small hairs on the pillow everyday and more so while I'm showering. Is it possible that the treatment is not working for me?

  10. Hello,

I've been on Proscar for the past 8 months. I take 1.25 mg three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). I've noticed that I'm still shedding quite a lot of hair which I can see on the pillow every morning or in the shower, mainly very small ones (so not transplanted hair which I have on top because these are long - I had my HT around 4 years ago). I'm not sure whether they are donor hairs because my donor is quite long now, or miniaturized hair in the crown which I haven't transplanted anything to yet and which is extremely thin. Could they be miniaturized hairs in the donor for example? Any ideas?

    Thanks

Initial shedding the first few months is a good sign its working, making way for newer stronger hairs in the coming months. In general, shedding up to around 150 hairs a day is normal for a healthy person, so not sure how that compares with what you are experiencing. And its always possible there's some other reason not related to normal male pattern baldness, like chronic stress, serious illnesses, malnutrition, some other medication you may be taking.

Thanks for the response. I’m aware that around 150 hairs a day is normal but I’m not sure how much hair I’m currently losing. It feels like I’m shedding a lot. Note that I’ve previously had a hair transplant and I wasn’t on Finasteride.

Do you think the 1mg every other day is not enough to at least reduce my hair loss? Or is what’s happening normal and I should give it a couple more months before deciding to increase my dosage?

    Thanks!

  12. Hey everyone,

I've been on Finasteride (Propecia) for the past 3.5-4 months (1 mg every other day). Thankfully, no noticeable side effects. However, I've noticed that I'm still experiencing considerable shedding. I remember 2 weeks-1 month after starting the medication, the shedding significantly decreased before it increased again a couple of weeks later. I feel like I'm losing a lot of hair every day and this has been for the past month or two - most of the hairs are short ones, shorter than my hair on top (might be from the donor because I keep it shorter?).

Any feedback on to why is that?

    Thanks

  13. Hello,

I've tried to message a couple of members regarding this topic but I felt I'd get a clearer answer if I publicly post my question.

Can Finasteride affect the health of children?

To be clearer, let's say someone has been on Finasteride for a couple of years and decided to try for a child. Can the fact that he has been on Finasteride for quite some time affect the health of his child assuming his partner was able to get pregnant? (I know it's advisable to stop while trying for a child and that pregnant woman or those who are planning to get pregnant should not handle the pills, but my question is regardless of whether he stops when trying to have a child and assumes that the woman will not handle the pills).

    Thanks.

  14. Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I finally started Finasteride after 5 years of hesitation (and a lot of lost hair). I've been on 0.5 mg of Propecia every other day (MWF) for the past 2 weeks.

Just today in the morning, I woke up and felt really dizzy. This went on for the next 2 hours and then everything subsided. It's the first time I've experienced this since I started. Should I be concerned? Anyone had a similar story?
