But didn't you just say in an earlier post that "The hair from the thighs, arms, etc have impossible chances of survival on the scalp."

How do you explain this singer's good growth with his arm and leg hair?

Because he has majority of the scalp and beard hair. The hair from the body were used discreetly and lesser in amount. Thats the whole issue. The planning of the density anf the strategic positioning of the grafts facilitate for very little difference even when the body hair are stagnant.

Well, I sure can't see that short anagen and long telogen phase on my chest and stomach hair. I'm constantly clipping them and if I didn't they'd easily grow 4 inches or longer.

Well we can't generalise it for everyone. The growth rate of body, scalp and beard hair are different in each individual.

Amazing. I cannot put in words how much I value Finasteride. It has helped me tremendously too. I am so happy with your progress.

I was always hesitant on the sides and still am to be quite honest.  Dr Bisanga recently informed me that there is a topical option, i may be considering. I just dont know how many people have had success with it.  Just started taking minoxidil.

The pills are obviously more effective than the lotion. But the topucal form has also got good reviews from amny doctors and patients. You can start using it and evaluate its effects on your hair. I am sure it will be helpful.

If a man does not take any medication (e.g. finasteride) to prevent hair loss, but what age does balding generally stop?

Has it generally ceased by their 40s, 50s, 60s?

With or without the medication, baldness never stops fully. The speed of pregression gradually tapers off with age. Medication can prolong baldness. It doesn't completely stop it. Androgenetic alopecia has to be effectively managed with proper medications.

I had a transplant done last Tuesday (the 25th) and my doctor said that about 6 to 7 days later you can start washing your hair like normal. I of course trust him and he was great throughout the whole experience, but Ive heard conflicting info online from other surgeons/patients. When is it completely safe and secure so that no grafts are lost? Thanks.

One weeks time is more than sufficient to start having a normal headwadh regulalrly. It is comepletely safe after that.

Here's a 50 year old surfer who needed a little frontal triangle case.   In this short video we discuss age appropriate and non pluggy/non straight line...hairlines and show his result at 11 months.   That wavy salt and pepper hair matches his skin perfectly and he looks great.

1st time posting here.  i've been losing hair since i was 20, did my 1st HT FUT in 2013 for 1500 grafts, then 2nd FUE HT with a well known surgeon in Beverly hills for 2000 grafts in Dec 2018.  its been around 18 months since i had that 2nd procedure and id say i'm about 60% satisfied with the front.  I was told by that Dr. that i would need a 3rd procedure to fill the mid and crown which i planned to do.  However after seeing the results with this doctor, i'm not prepared to spend a ton of money for another 2000 grafts as he suggested that won't achieve my goals.  There appear to be areas like my right side hairline that are see through and right in the middle front where i feel like he didn't put any grafts or nothing grew.  After consulting with a few doctors, i was told i am a repair case.  I do want to note, i was advised to take FIN and i did not as i was scared of the sides and i did continue to lose more hair in the mid/crown.  I plan on starting FIN 1 mg a day or every other day. when i do my 3rd HT after talking to numerous people and doctors.

I started looking at doctors in Turkey (Pekiner, HLC, Demirsoy, ASMED, Hair transplant of Istanbul,  then India (bhatti, Suneet Soni) and i also reached out to Couto, Lorenzo, Ferreira of Spain/Portugal.  Dr. Couto is unfortunately not accepting any consultations at the moment. I found some decent results on some Brazilian doctors, has anyone on hear have good experience with them?  I recently saw Thiago BIanco Leal and they look solid too.

Turkish clinic i short listed was Pekiner who advised me 4000 grafts (2000 from BHT).  I wasn't expecting to take that many grafts from beard/chest at least in my 3rd HT. i know that yields on BHT is lower than scalp.

For India, Soni said i would also need 4000 grafts but max 2500 via FUE and 1500 grafts with FUT.  This was the first time i was introduced by a doctor of combining FUT+FUE.  I'm not looking to have a 2nd linear scar. Bhatti said i only have 2200-2500 grafts available and thats all i need for the crown.

Dr. Ferreira's clinic gave me a detailed assessment/plan and Dr. Ferreira personally emailed me saying i would need 4000 grafts to fill my mid/crown and do another procedure 5 months from then to repair donor scar and touch up hairline as its a bit see through.  He mentioned my donor looks good for 4000 grafts, my previous doctor also mentioned that after my 2nd HT.

You should have taken Finasteride from earlier on. It would've prevented any further progression of baldness. You can start using topical finasteride if you are not okay using the pill.

Thanks! I do appreciate the candor! I cut my hair pretty high and tight as is. So I’m more concerned about the scabs being visible, as opposed to the length of hair. The doctors said that they can work to buzz it down so it doesn’t look so pronounced in donor area.

i can live with the thinning, basically, but less with the scabs. How long until you think those traces will remove? I know It sounds like I’m asking the same question, but just seeing what I can do to minimize the disruption

The scabs of the wounds will wash off after a couple of initial washes. The redness might remain for a couple of weeks. The collective absence of hair will remain which can be strategically camouflaged with proper styling.

Well I’m asking you this because you said in today’s era, FUT isn’t needed to cover large areas anymore when in theory combining both seems to be the way to maximize yield. Please elaborate on why fue alone is a better choice for an advanced Norwood patient?

An equal or even more number of grafts can be extraced through FUE wherein even the beard and body hair can be used in the process. There is transection during FUT too. Plus it also has permanent shock loss around the donor area.

    Hi Everyone,

While I know FUEs offer better long term results in terms of reduced scarring, a major concern of mine is the fact that donor area has to be shaved pretty tight during surgery, so it’s tougher to conceal in the days/weeks after surgery. Does anyone have any experience with positive attempts at concealing these scars (Dermatch, cosmetics, etc.). How long will it be until the donor  area is not noticeable?

The donor will look thin for a month or two until the other hair on the donor grow longer and cover the area. There is nothing you can do about it. When you go for a transplant, you have to accept the casualties that come along with it. There has to be time given for the normalization of the scalp. The hair will take time to grow. And the donor thinning will be visible especially in the initial months. Even later on if you keep a stubble length hair on your donor, the collective thinning will be apparent.

So on average, how many grafts can you extract via fue from the scalp, and then from the beard. Considering the donor is very well and the beard is thick. And would you say these exact rules apply for nw 6+ as well?

See. Thats exactly the point we all need to understand. The donor area of each person is different. To get the exact number of grafts that can be extracted from a particular donor or even to give an estimation, the index donor has to be evaluated. Density, hair calibre varies from person to person.

  13. People who judge you or choose their partners based on the aesthetics or material wealth of individuals are the saddest and most miserable. It is rather best to be bald, blind, deaf, mute, paralized etc rather than have a life partner who only looks at your beauty and not the actual person inside.

This should be the last reason why people should even consider body modifications even in the worst circumstance.

Cosmetic surgeries should only be for personal happiness.

I want you guys to really think of this question, what would you consider worse, would it be worse to go fully bald Norwood 6- slap head, or would it be worse to have a failed hair transplant? I want to hear your guys thoughts.

Having a failed hair transplantation procedure is the worst. At least the donor is safe even if you go naturally bald even to grade VII with retrograde thinning. With failed hair transplants, the graft loss is permanent and can never be got back. The fact that the donor area is a finite resource is the biggest drawback.

    Hi everyone

I have two questions about grafts please:

    1. When they say 'a graft', do we mean one hair? So is 1 graft = 1 individual hair?

    2. Would it be preferable for a surgeon to extract more or fewer grafts? Does extracting more grafts mean better coverage?

    Many thanks!

    1. A graft is a follicular unit comprising of 1 to 6 follicles (hair strands).

    2. Coverage depends on the artistic creation of density, intelligent placement of the grafts depending on their calibre and follicle count, head size and proper planning. Extracting more grafts has nothing to do with a good coverage. Hair transplant is creating an illusion, not getting the actual count of hair.

Hey guys. Had an FUE procedure about 3.5 weeks ago now. I've started to see some shedding, as expected. However so far almost all of my shedding is at the hairline, and it's of the 1 hair grafts. The doubles/triples have yet to come out. I'm curious if this is common and what the reason may be?

Its subjective from person to person. The shedding phenomenon cannot be generalised for everyone. They have all timelines of growth. It will grow in it's own course. It could be early or late. Approximately 12 to 14 months will show you the optimim density achievable.

    Hi all,

Hoping to get some stories and see some results of those who have undergone HT but do not use Fin.

I was on fin for a while and unfortunately I am one of the people who got horrible sides. Took me months after stopping to recover, so fin is off my list of options for good. Am open to trying min but dread the initial shed.

I know the traditional view is an HT without meds is not the best idea, but I've seen a few people on various threads say otherwise. Have been searching around trying to find threads with such results and stories, but it's hard to search this forum with such generic keywords.

Wondering if anyone has stories/threads the could link to on this forum (or others). Trying to get a sense of what is possible with just an HT long term plan that does not include any fin products, but may integrate min.

    Thanks!

Hair transplant can be done without Finasteride. However, you must be prepared to get more hair transplant procedures done in the new areas that get empty gradually. The "permanent zone" is just more immune to dihydrotestosterone. The hair on the "temporary zone" is less immune to dihydrotestosterone. Therefore, with time, even the transplanted hair will become thinner. They might even miniaturize. Therefore, you must be prepared to face that situation.
