  1. Just my luck. I'll have to research this some more. Some of the transplants clearly have worked - I can tell from the way the hairs are crinkly - so it's frustrating that a small proportion of hairs have been ok but the majority seem to have died. They also appear to have transplanted more successfully into some areas than others, which again is frustrating and a little confusing.
  2. I've been on finasteride for 12 years, and it does lose its effect in some people. Certainly myself. But I think it slows the rate of loss, even when it is less effective. Unless you're very lucky, there aren't any hairloss treatments that are 'for life'.
  3. Hi all, and thanks for your comments. Transmed has talked about 'compensation' - I'm not sure what that would involve. However, I'd have to think carefully before going for another HT there, given the poor result I've had this time out. Though obviously, I'm now limited in how many grafts II can have from a future HT. Anouar - you talk about blaming it on physiology - what do you mean exactly?
  4. 11 month update here. Don't think I'm going to get a good result. I've been in touch with the clinic who will make a full assessment at 12 months. Then we'll see...
  5. Hi Blake. I've spoken to Transmed today and they will make a full assessment at 12 months, and then we'll talk about whether further surgery is possible. Will keep the blog updated with what they say. Cheers.
  6. Looks fantastic. I had a consultation with Dr Bisanga and didn't go with him, but now kind of wishing I had... He seems to get great results.
  7. Well, 11 months since my HT, I think I can say for certain that I'm not going to get the result I hoped for. I had begun to worry when my regrowth seemed to stall at the 6-7 months phase. Sometimes, the hair looked a little thinner if anything. Given my long-term pattern of hair loss, I don't think I've suddenly lot a load of native hair. So I wonder if some of the transplants have died. Is that possible? Throughout this post HT period I have been holding back on any kind of verdict, in the hope that I was a late developer. But after 11 months, I have to say it has been a disappointment. Front Front close Left Right Top Vertex
  8. Hi TTP. They've not really commented much on my progress, tbh. I'm waiting for 12 months to see what the verdict is. I know from your own experience that the density can continue to improve after 10 months, but I can't see it delivering the hairline I was hoping for at this stage.
  9. ShiningDome - research is everything. Still not much more density at the 10-month stage.
  10. Sickboy, I probably went through a similar process to you. All the research points to Transmed plus the Belgian clinics being among the best for UK patients, with Transmed being slightly more appealing because of price. That was why I chose them. I couldn't fault the professionalism of their clinic, but at 10 months, I'm a little disappointed with the results.
  11. Good luck with it mate. Couldn't agree more about Transmed's professionalism. Sounds like you're already seeing progress, but for most of us, the recovery is a bit of a rollercoaster. Look forward to seeing the pics.
  12. Well, a week over 10 months on. Still poor density in the HT areas. The front hair line on the left side, where I saw the fastest regrowth early on, now looks thinner if anything. I suppose this may mean that native hair has fallen out, but I would still have hoped for better density from the transplanted hair at this stage. Front Front close Top Vertex Left Right
  13. Hi Blake, and thanks for your comments. I'm not going to make any knee jerk reactions, and will wait till 12 months before a final judgement. At the moment, I am still seeing slow but steady thickening of the hair in the recipient area. However, even with a further 30% maturation, I'm not sure if I'll get a decent result at the front hairline. We shall see - I hope I'm proved wrong! In the meantime, the support of you and everyone else in this community is much appreciated.
  14. I recommend a look at TakingThePlunge's photo journal. The progress even after one year is very encouraging for any late developers (myself included).
  15. Hi Batel. I don't think you've done too badly, given the area that was treated. The density is likely to improve further in the next few months, but I think you will probably need a second treatment to get the kind of density (it sounds like) you're looking for. I'm about a month ahead of you in recovering from my Transmed HT (see blog link below). I've been disappointed. I live in hope that the density will get better, but at the 9-month stage, I think I should be expecting better, particularly in the front hairline.
  16. Very common. The bactroban didn't do much to stop mine. Someone recommended washing in salt water, if you do a search through the forum archive.
  17. I felt as though I had made quite a bit of progress over the past month, but comparing the photos with those taken 6-7 weeks ago, they don't look much different. Admittedly I've just had quite a short hair cut, but even so... Generally though, the last month has seen slow but steady progress, notably on the left temple, which had been slower than the right. I can see a lot of fine hairs there, which hopefully will thicken. The front hairline density is still pretty disappointing though. Hoping I am a late developer there. 18. Regarding side effects and dosage - I have been taking 1.25mg daily for 13 years, give or take the odd few months off - and have never had a problem.
  19. A bit about my experience with Transmed... I had my HT with Dr Kulahci eight months ago - 2900 grafts via FUT. I used this website for most of my HT research, which led me to Transmed, and found the clinic extremely professional and the patient experience excellent. I've documented the HT and the subsequent regrowth on a blog (see link below). I've been a little disappointed. I think the average HT patient sees regrowth more quickly than I have, and I'm not sure the end result will be quite what I hoped for. However, I'll be waiting till 12-18 months before I pass a final verdict. The scar, incidentally, is virtually indetectable. I have my hair cut with a clipper to grade four, and even at such a short length, the scar is still hidden.
  20. I had a consultation with Bisanga and felt pretty confident about him. Other patient experiences seemed good too. But in the end, I went elsewhere because of price.
  21. Hi Bill. You must be delighted with your results, they are tremendous. A couple of questions: 1. After #4 FUT HTs, does your scalp feel tight, or have there been any other side effects? 2. You are continuing to take finasteride 1mg to slow further loss of native hair. Same as myself. But presumably, you are resigned to more native hair falling out. How will you deal with that, as and when it happens? FUE? Another FUT?! Or have your FUTs been performed in such a way as to take that into account? Best wishes, and well done again on a great result.
  22. Many UK patients end up in Belgium or Turkey or other European country - check the recommended names on here - there simply aren't that many good surgeons in the UK. Well, one - and he is costly and had a long waiting list last time I checked.
  23. I'm from the UK, and when deciding on a clinic, I gave Farjo a call but couldn't even get a consultation for several months. And it was pricy. With a bit of research, I identified several good Belgian clinics, plus one in Turkey. All had reputations at least as good as Farjo and were cheaper. Personally, I rulled out the idea of a UK clinic fairly early in my research. But take your time deciding...
