Was considering this as an option for my shock loss dilemma but after discussing with others realized it is too radical & the long term results are unproven.

Sam, believe it or not I am in a similar position to you. Although my hair loss isn't as advanced I have loss behind the transplanted hair & in one way I am worse off because I had strip.

Even so I am weighing up whether to keep up the game of chasie or shave down. I know what you mean about the line but a lot of the guys that shave do it on a daily basis so I cant imagine the line is too significant within one day?

I need to decide if this is my best long term strategy too.

Did you have FUE or FUT? Is shaving an option? Even after HT i think it can still be done - i have even seen scalp reduction/flap guys with neat scars shaved that does not look too bad...

I had a tiny touch up into the front of my hairline as the surgeon had gone too low on one side.

Within 3 months of that tiny bit of work i had significant shock loss in the left temple region. It has diffused out that entire left corner. I think your hair looks ok as it is & i would leave it alone but thats just my opinion. Just be aware that sometimes any cosmetic procedure ends up in a worse result.

From what i have seen, the best HT candidates have significant loss.

I wonder if he is on Fin or Dut? Does not seem to be imho.

At least he has the $$$ to keep chasing. Looks a very aggressive pattern though, id say he will end up needing to go the BHT route to maintain a full head.

I thought Dense packing would add to scalp trauma and if anything contribute to more shock loss? The surgeon i am leaning towards is recommending 30 grafts per sq centimetre. He thinks around 150 grafts should be enough???

It is such a hard decision and I am really hurting. Has been going on for over a year now & I feel paralyzed...just don't know what to do. I have seen three HT doc's in addition to my original surgeon & they all say different things.

31 grafts to the centre/front of my hairline did this damage. I should have been done but I suspect my Dr wanted more work? The psychological & emotional trauma it has caused me is hard to write in words. Thanks for the support.

Probably the biggest argument for FUE is that the patient won't end up with a strip scar so that if they want to wear their hair short, the scarring will not be seen.

If the hair loss battle is eventually lost, Id like to play devils advocate & suggest that as long as the strip scar has been done well and is 1m or 2m wide, should it really matter if the person shaves down?

A neat strip scar could easily be explained as the result of a fight, car accident or whatever. I think I have seen a few guys with strip scar's shaved down & they don't look too bad.

Any thoughts?

You have done really well & with the benefit of my experience I wouldn't go playing around with it too much - you could make it worse!

Id say add finasteride to your regime & if you want surgery - look for a one & done procedure with a top Dr.

I was in a similar position to you & have been suckered into several smaller procedures & the last one has really landed me in hot water. Tread carefully....

It is early days for me - have only been using it for around 1 month. I'm not expecting miracles but one surgeon that I felt I did trust encouraged me to give it a try. Lots of users online indicate it could be a gimmick but some respected surgeons promote it. The surgeon I saw made no profit out of it - I ordered it online. Fingers crossed I guess....

Shock is just a small gap between the transplanted hair at the front & native at the back. Have been quoted between 150 to 1000 grafts by three different surgeons.

I think you are on the cusp of the good times mate. You should start sprouting very soon. I'm super confident you will be smiling in no time :-)

If you make cost your overriding factor you could live to regret it. When it comes to HT's, if you are going to do it, it is all about giving yourself the best chance of a good result....therefore a top surgeon.

You cant put a price on a good result, but I hope you never experience the pain of a bad result.

I purchased a Capillus 272 a month ago. I had a consult with a surgeon who uses the Sunetic's laser in his clinic - he showed me photo's of people who had responded really well to that - he told me if I purchase my own cap to go with an approved FDA product & he agreed the Capillus 272 is the best.

It has to be used as directed, half an hour every 2nd day. If overused it can actually induce a negative affect, so be careful with that!

If you are hoping to regrow hair i think the only way that can be done is with transplantation. If you want to improve what you have then the Capillus is worth a try.

I asked about further shock loss in all consultations. One Dr said Thymosin Beta 4 would help prevent that risk.

Believe it or not, 31 grafts to correct a tiny spot in the front of my hairline caused this - 3 inches away in the left temporal/forelock area.

Very hard to get an answer on this & I really need one.

I'm 45 years old. Have had some HT work to improve my hairline over the past 12 years. Taking fin, minox, llt, ionil t shampoo & hairloss has basically been stable for the past 10-12 years. Up til now surgery was all about improvements but the last tiny touch up hit me with perm shock loss 3 inches away from the area of work. Has been 12 months now & I'm pretty sure it is as good as it is going to get without further work.

The thing is, I am all too aware of how risky it could be. I have consulted with three doc's & been quoted from between 150 grafts to 1000 grafts to do that job. It is only a narrow gap between the transplanted & native hair in the left temporal region but it hurts me really badly although I'm sure to the rest of the world it is barely noticeable.

Can something like this be safely fixed or am I likely to be embarking on a game of chasie all over my scalp? Is it better to go for the smallest job possible, or do extra & transplant into existing hair to compensate for possible additional shock loss? Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Never thought i would actually hop on a plane & travel overseas for a HT but for a result like this i think i would! Amazing....

I have used Ionil T shampoo virtually daily for 25 years. IMHO definitely worth consideration as part of a hair maintenance regime.

Update Coal Tar and hairloss

I had a consult with a surgeon who normally promotes 95%+ FUE yield, however he told me that because I had previous HT's, did not have virgin scalp, had some scar tissue & the blood supply has been compromised he predicted only 80% yield.
