  1. At the Holiday Inn hotel in Kings Cross, London. It was certainly a pleasant meeting for me, we were able to discuss certain things that I have been questioning for some time now (such as my donor site, the thickness of my hair, etc) as well as having him check out my situation and current state of my hair.

Personally, I want to recommend that people try and familiarise themselves with the ethical surgeons and veterans of the hair loss/restoration community, as I would not have felt comfortable discussing matters with a local hair restoration clinic, that may well be a 'snake oil' institution, just trying to sell me their product and procedure, feeding me false or biased information. Spex is a good guy and his opinion means as much to me as my own, at this point.

He told me that at current, I have a slightly maturing hairline, but there are no signs of MPB, and to just keep up with the propecia, minoxidil and kenocotozole shampoo. fingers crossed that things don't change much any time soon, and hopefully my preventative measures will be well paid off in the future :)

  2. It's easier in ever aspect, especially in the post-op recovery. I was literally back at work the very next day and I'm no hero when it comes to such things. See my review from my first procedure.

My first FUT knocked me on my ass. I was in bed for days. It was painful, uncomfortable and I could hardly sleep. I was drugged up for over a week. Also, having the sutures removed was a painful and unpleasant experience.

My second FUT was significantly easier than my first as I knew what to expect. Also, my body took to it better than the first. It was definitely less painful. However, still doesn't compare to how minimal FUE is.

I was able to conceal the procedure very well in the donor and recipient area due to my long hair. However, I'm sure that inquiring eyes could have noticed if they tried, but I couldn't have cared less about that. I'm not embarrassed about my procedure... it fascinates me.

If you've followed my experience and posts, you'd know that I am among the first to call BS on the "minimally invasive" term applied to FUT. It's only minimally invasive from a medical perspective, you know, like a colonoscopy. From a physical perspective, I found it to be extremely painful and uncomfortable. Fortunately, I had plenty of pain killers to make it bearable.

I hope this clears it up.

Looks great dude and as one of the first people I really followed on here, I'm glad to see how things have turned out.

I have to ask though, are you not on Propecia or anything else? because on your blog page it says no non-surgical treatments.

  3. Thanks for the advice, I'm back to taking it once am and once pm. I'm using the minox and azelaic liquid at night as it makes my hair really dry and is like putting lots of gel in my hair. Using a generic Kirkland liquid in the am, as it dries perfectly and on the plus side is dirt cheap! I'd advice this to anybody really

  4. Whoaaaaaa. They're from 2011. And using a name I don't associate myself with any more. Wow. Didn't realise I'd been on here that long. Anyway, there's newer pictures since then:

And nope, am not on any meds at all. Don't want to be on them unless I need to be.

    But anyway;

    For Future_HT_Doc:

She commented on my hair just after I'd woken up, so, this morning I took some pics to show you where she said I was 'losing it at the back of my head'. I told her it was the way I'd been lying - it always happens - but she wouldn't have it.

And then here's my hairline. All the pics there are variations of flash and no flash. And am wearing a pink hair band. It's not mine, I found it in the bathroom, ha.

    The thing is, my hairline hasn't changed in 4 (2008) years. I even have a pic to show the shape - as best as possible, I didn't take pics of my hairline then;

    http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/june%202012/me2.jpg

Yeah, she's 20, as are her mates. I'm 22. She apologised afterwards when I told her it bothered me, and she said it was just a joke, but even still, she randomly picked up on it and that's what bothers me.

I don't really want go down the whole insulting her to be honest. She thought it was just a joke - I didn't.

Anyway, there's some pics, I don't think/hope there's still no change with my hair from the 2008 but yeah. There's the pics as requested.

Thanks for all you replies as well, I do appreciated it.

Having looked at most of your pictures I can honestly tell you that you have NOTHING to worry about. seriously, If somebody told me I was losing my hair and I had your head of follicles, I'd just laugh at them and agree. Clearly you're very conscious of your hair. I always was, long before I'd even started losing any. Just relax dude, and appreciate that you're 22 and honestly have no hairloss this far. Wish I could say the same.

Keep an eye on things, and if something does start to drastically change, get on the meds.

  5. Your girlfriend seems to be a bigger problem than your hair.

    This.

And also I really should take a leaf from my own advice tree, but you shouldn't even care what other people think, and you shouldn't have to try and convince people that your hair is fine. She's being a huge douche saying that to you. How would she like it if you called her fat, or told her she has a weird nose?

  6. I've read a lot of stuff online that suggests body building and any muscle training can most definitely increase hair loss through an increased production of hormones, including the conversion rate/speed/amount of DHT in the body.

I've also read several times that a cardio fitness workout (anything that burns fat, such as running, swimming, bike, etc) regime can not only help keep you in the most optimum shape, but also actually help decrease the hormone conversion, and therefore the rate of which your hair will thin.

For many reasons I want to start working out, and keeping in shape. I find the gym and weight lifting boring as hell though, and when I read several years ago that it can cause more harm than help regarding my hair, I basically disregarded the thought of me ever doing weights again. However, running is definitely something I wanted to get into, especially if a healthier lifestyle will give me REAL results in slowing, or helping stop my hairloss altogether (along with everything else i'm doing)

Any input, guys? Any facts you can share?

    Thanks!

  7. I've been using this stuff since late september when i made the switch from Rogaine foam. I honestly can't comment as it was around the same time i started using propecia again, in small amounts. the one thing i can say though, is that the stuff leaves your hair feeling really stiff and chalky. Obviously this is because of the Azeliac acid, as when i was applying this stuff from a cream to my hair, it was like this only 10 times worse. I'm going to start using this stuff only at night time, and use a 5% minox foam alternative in the mornings, for the sake of being able to style my hair in the daytime. Also, Lipogaine is not cheap stuff, so i think only using it once daily with a foam minox in the morning might make it more worthwhile.

  8. If you just want to maintain what you have then yes get on Propecia. If you want to try to regrow then go with MInox as well, but honestly NW2 at your age is not bad so I would just focus on keeping what you have. Do you know at what age your father started balding and when he reached the NW6/NW7 territory? Just because your father is bald doesn't mean you will be as well.

What are your uncles, grandfathers like?

who said his dad was a NW6 or 7? that's a pretty extreme stage of balding, a lot of men stop at NW5...

  9. That video really makes it look better than it actually is, to be honest.

And it's 1500-2500 grafts (though more than likely closer to the 1500 part) spread in the frontal 3rd. If anything, I want to add density to that zone, the hairline bothers me the least (though I would want to add some grafts to restore what's lost.)

I know I'm in a better situation than some even younger than me, within this community, but in the real world I'm "balding". My hair at the front of my head is about half the density it is everywhere else, and that really fucks me up inside. I've done everything I can personally do to help matters, and I'm being patient and realistic in my goals.

I just figured I'd ask for more people's opinions on the matter here.

Maybe I should contact some doctors for their advice....

  10. Thanks for the reply, mate :) well I wouldn't mind holding off for another year either, just to get an even more solid idea of my hairloss, but I figured I only get this part of my life once, I wanna live my early years with as good a hairline as possible.

As for surgeons, I don't mind traveling, It definitely won't be in the UK due to ridiculous costs, maybe one of the top Canadian doctors, or Dr Path in Asia (I think Thailand?) as he always has great results

  11. Here is my hair as of today. Just recorded this, a quick all over to show you my hair in all areas. can I get some comments on my donor? I don't think there is any thinning on the crown, and i've always been able to see my scalp wherever i'd parted it, but you can definitely appreciate how my hairline is receding slowly, and the frontal third is thin (especially with that thin spot in the very front middle.)

This video doesn't do it justice for the best of the days, it usually looks a lot worse and more lifeless.

also I know I need my haircut, I've been rtying to grow it out like it was many years ago, and it just isn't working. I found some pictures from when I was a teen, and my the hair at the front part of my hair is definitely noticably thinner and less of.

    http://youtu.be/FyZeVE3Cfcg

I wouldn't usually comb it that much, and that hard, but because I have quite curly hair, it can get tangled easily when i dry it like that, so i have to brush hard to get through it. also wanted to give the all over for the video :)

  12. Hey team,

Some of you may be familiar with me already, but as always I like to refresh the current situation with my hair, and all. I am 23 in 2 months time, and I have been observing my hair all over for the last 2 years with both pictures and videos. I've been on Rogaine twice daily for 15 months, I use a Kenocotazal shampoo every 3 days for 10 minutes and I have been on Propecia 1/2 mg every 3 days for the last 3 months or so (Due to side effects, I'm going to try and very slowly raise my dosage to maybe 1mg every other day). So besides my previous failed attempts with propecia, my regime has been very stable and I've made sure to keep a good diary to indicate when and how much things changed.

Considering my feelings over a year ago, I definitely think that my hair is in better shape than I had expected, it seems thick at the crown and it's as good on top as it is on the sides, however the frontal third is definitely thinner, and the hairline is ever so slowly receding. I think I have really good donor as the back, for some strange reason is really thick and full. is this normal for some? the sides aren't even as thick as the back. it just seem I have way more hair there, but i think it's always been the case.

If my hairloss has significantly reduced and I can stick to my regime, am i a decent candiate in the next 12-24 months for a HT of 1500-2500~ grafts in the frontal 3rd to beef up my density, and add more of a hairline, as mine is slowly diminishing?

    Thanks

  13. There is more to a man than just his hair. While I have no clue to the emotional toll you are personally enduring, I can only tell you of the experiences from my patients. I did have a young guy who was not a candidate for hair restoration because of his expectations and poor donor area at a young age. I did convince him to either try a hair piece or shave it off. He did shave it off. While at first it was hard to get used to, eventually he did as well as the rest of his friends and even girlfriends. he is happy and dating now and it is not because of is hair, but rather his unique personality that makes hiim. On the other hand, I have had young patients that were not candidates for hair transplantation go to a hair system and they are very happy. As ws mentioned, you need to decide what is in your best interest. Give it a try and if it doesnt work for you try something else.

the problem with hair systems is that they seriously feck up your existing hair in the area where you place them, and it will seriously increase the rate of balding. i see a lot of blogs of people who have had HTs, people who used to wear systems, and they often have very strange circular bald spots on their heads. this has to be because of the system usage.

  14. I really don't know man, but I feel your pain, especially at your age and the current state of your balding. Just try it man, but, from my experience and a lot of others, I would build your dosage up VERY slowly, as you may have sides, as many people seem to. Propecia isn't the poison that some hate spreaders online make it out to be, but it definitely does help if you start on a low dosage (maybe .25mg/ a quater of a pill) every 4 days or so, and then build that up to maybe 0.5mg every 3rd day a few months later. If after 5 months or so you can get up to 1mg daily without sides, then you've done the smart and safest thing, and I really think that a little propecia is better than non at all. you can definitely benefit from such low dosages.

  15. Hey guys, been on the stuff for over a year now, twice a day, every day religiously. however, i'm finding that the hair on top of my head is a lot more frizzy, and looks pretty wild, even after I straighten my hair all over (yes, lol. I have curly hair it looks way better straight, that's why) so i think this might have something to do with it. I'm using Lipogaine minox which has Azelaic 5% as well as Minox, so I'm thinking maybe this is why, as my hair will often feel like it has product in it, and hard after applying it. not too nice.

As I was my hair once a day for the most part, do you think applying Rogaine after work (around 5) and then again before bed (Midnightish) I would be able to get as good or as close as results as I would first thing AM and last thing PM? It just seems that if i wash my hair in the morning and then style without the stuff, I'm gonna look a lot better through out.

    Danke :)

  16. Hey guys, I just figured I should make a thread about this, and this is by no means done with malicious intent, but I've been a member of this website for sometime, and nothing makes me feel happier than when I see a great transformation through HT on a members personal blog. One of the earliest blogs that impressed me was this guy,

    Hair Restoration Site for ChrisHT_by_DrCharles

So when I found he had a youtube channel dedicated to fighting hairloss (Hairloss from steriods), I was pretty impressed. in fact, his videos are very assuring, and that if you follow his steps, you'll be using legit products, that he himself uses and swears by. He's pretty much playing the sort of role that Spex plays. After months of watching his videos, and hearing his advice, I came to notice that he never once mentions that he has had TWO hairtransplants, with nearly 4000 grafts implanted into his frontal third. I messaged him asking why he never mentions this, no response. figured he was too busy to see or respond. but then when I realised his videos were no longer requiring comment approval, I posted yesterday on his latest video "Hey man, just wondering why you never mention your two hair transplants in your videos?". Sadly, confirming my fears, he had deleted the comment by the morning.

Why would he lie? I guess he benefits from it. all of his videos have links to places where you can buy the products, and he gets a commission for each sale. that's fair enough, because the stuff he preaches no doubt is legit stuff, but frankly, he is bullshitting how well they work. I mean he shows pictures on his website of him basically norwood 5 with bad diffuse all over the top of his head. WAY worse than on his hair transplant blog. Then he claims he's gone from that to a juvenile hairline with 0 hairloss, through no other means than Propecia, some liquid drops on his head every day and a bit of shampoo?

I dunno, I just figured I'd share it with you guys.

  17. Used Nizoral 1% for the first time, seen a more hair loss than it happens daily....is it a reaction or it is natural for the first time please help me, whether to continue using or to stop

    thankyou

If anything, I'd say that's a good sign. You'll go through weeks, maybe even months of shedding before you start to see results, but I would 100% recommend ketoconazol shampoo to anybody who is fighting hairloss. I personally use the 2% formula once ever 3 days, and i'll leave it on for at least 10 minutes, massaged strongly into my scalp.

  18. SP is much weaker so you will probably be good. I would wait until you are feeling normal so you can tell if you are getting sides.

I don't mean this in a negative way, but just to open up a dialogue, I really feel like a lot of sides are psychological. It may not be in your case, but sides, especially lately have just become too common.

I would like to see an independent study done with placebos on men that do not know about the drugs sides.

Yeah man, I also would like to see that study.

I've often wondered if my side effects were just psychological -

I guess the only way I'd ever be able to tell is by taking Propecia again in the future, when I'm in a stable relationship and in a better state of mind. I've been pretty depressed this year...

  19. I decided to drop Propecia for good, after the 4th time of trying to introduce it into my regime - It was a Thursday 14 days ago, I took one 1mg tablet, and from that I had completely depleted sex drive and reduce of semen for well over a week, infact it was only last night that I felt my sex drive had returned. I also had really bad brain fog on that Thursday, and feel like it was one of the symptoms that was causing me some depression through taking the drug.

I took a saw palmetto tablet today, but I'm still not 100% sure if i've recovered from the Propecia sides fully.

How long should I wait before starting another DHT inhibitor? and also any ideas how likely I am to suffer with sides from SP, if I get such a strong reaction from Propecia?

    Thanks
