  1. Which brand do you use? I tried the regular minoxidil drop for about a year or so, I'm not really sure it did anything for me, but I stopped using it due to the dry scalp and beyond oily hair. My hair looked like a winter snow blizzard had just swept through and I got caught in the middle of it. It was horrifying! Nick I will indeed keep you guys updated once I know more! I will post in a more appropriate section of the site though.
  2. Soo, I have taken a long hiatus from this forum due to many reasons, but none of which include not planning on getting a HT. So, yes, I am about to graduate college and have had all I can deal with about balding (I started noticing it when I was 17 years old; and I shouldn't have to preach to the choir as to how that effects someone so young). So anyways, I thought that, as I have sacrificed a lot in the last 6 years in college, I thought I should treat myself to a boost of confidence before I attempt to either enter the work for or go with my initial plan of entering into medical school. That means, I have decided to bite the bullet, suck up the cost, and finally get some hairs on my head! Since I am from Minnesota, and I have heard nothing but good things from this group, I have decided that Shapiro Medical Group is the group for me. I guess, since this is a question forum, I should pose one. Does anyone have any experience with financing their transplant surgery and would like to impart a little bit of knowledge onto me in either replying to this message publicly, or sending me a message, privately? Here is how things are looking based on my phone conversation There is an opening next week and at the end of May (However, the appointment next week may be on the same day as my commencement ceremony, and telling my parents I'm not walking doesn't seem like a plausible solution). So it will most likely be at the end of May (Sad panda ) Then, I am leaving to Europe at the end of June for a few months to stay with a couple of friends (I am guessing I am going to need to invest in a few nice hats for the first couple of months as the scars go away and things don't look so unpleasant) I would just like to hear what you guys have to say. Anything is welcome. If it makes things easier, I am 24 years old currently. *PS: Has anyone heard anything about Generic Monoxidil foam? I've been trying to do research on it, but haven't been able to pin down any reviews*
  3. I completely agree. And I'm not one to skimp completely on prices, but if I can find a top notch surgeon at 6$/graft as apposed to a top notch surgeon at 8-9$, I'll definitely go with the numbers . Additionally, I am very eager to find a Dr who can work with my goals and has a specialty in it; I would like to work with body hair as to maximize density (God knows I have enough of that) My goals are realistic, but aggressive, to say the least. I did send Shapiro an email to see what I could find out, I guess I'll wait to see. Nick
  4. I've been looking around, and I haven't been able to locate any lists of prices for comparison for some of the leading doctors as well as their travel benefits. I live in Minnesota and am very much considering Shapiro, however I would like to consider my options before I do so. Since I am relatively young (24) I don't have tons of money and would like to stretch my dollar the furthest I can go. I've been balding since I was 17 years old, so I feel like I've gotten quite a bit of it out of my system.
  5. I just got back from my meeting with Matt at Shapiro Medical Group, and I must say, he is a very genuine, educated and caring man. He made the process and my understanding of it much more realistic. My mom attended with me, because I'm only 21 and I love my mother, and she was just in awe at everything, in a good way. Result- He is starting me off on medications such as Rogaine and Proprecia because of my age and the likelihood that my condition will progress. So we are going to see how much it does for me and we can discuss a possible hair transplant in the near future, 6 months. He estimated how many grafts I will be needing at around 2,400 and made me realize that hair transplantation isn't intended to make you look how you did in your infancy, but to make you not look bald, which I guess I needed to hear as a realistic expectation. All in all the meeting surpassed my expectations; I spent well over an hour talking with him about everything and anything that pertained to hair restoration. I really felt that my satisfaction not only short term, but long term were at their utmost priority. I am truly thankful for everything that they have done so far. I cannot wait to see how I react to the proprecia and rogaine; I am sure you will all be hearing more from me. I still do intend on getting a hair transplant within the next year though seeing he even told me that proprecia will not give me the results that I am probably looking for, but will increase hair diameter and strength; the hair transplant is the only option for actually increasing density in the areas I am seeking.
  6. Yeah. I am happy that I finally live in a state that allows me to get something accomplished as if I lived in Hollywood. I don't know why they wanted to set up shop in Minnesota, but I sure am glad they did .
  7. I am extremely ecstatic about this; to the point where words are lacking. I really hope that my meeting with Matt go well. I am sure he is extremely knowledgeable and caring; an expectation I've heard is imperative for the Shapiro Medical team. I am worried though about how many grafts they are going to say I need although I have no doubts that they will be telling the truth; I have 100% confidence in them which is hard to say in today's society, sadly. I know that I probably should have done a lot more research on the subject prior to my meeting, but as you may know, life can sometimes get busy and I didn't want to sacrifice my other obligations in order to prepare. This doesn't mean that I am not at least somewhat up to date on the topic, to the contrary, I am fairly well informed. But knowing that I am human, do you guys have any questions that should be addressed or anything I should mention during the meeting? All input will be very much appreciated!
  8. Not that this is of any relivance to your post. But I have a meeting with Matt tomorrow at 2PM. I hope all is well and I hope that I don't need too manyn graftss. I can only afford so much as a college student!!! For once, I am proud to live in Minnesota, the land of the best hair transplant surgeon in the world? SCORE
  9. First of all, thank you for answering the question. That is exactly what I was wondering! I have a meeting with Dr Shapiro this Thursday for which I am ecstatic! I was a kid who started to lose significant hair in my earthy youth, (17). I am now 21 and can hardly handle the comments I get on a daily basis. Secondly, very nice work on your patients. The results are outstanding.
  10. I know that what I am saying may not affect how you feel, but I think it looks great and it will only get better!
  11. I have seen quite a few after photos and it seems that the only hair style that you can have is the hair slicked back. I have seen any people show what their hair in the frontal region looks combed down. Is this even possible to do? Or is the hair destined to grow up due to the nature of the implantation? Does this even make sense what I'm saying?
  12. I can't wait till i have my consultation with Dr Shapiro in less than 2 weeks. Actually a little over 1 week. This man is truly amazing. I can't even tell he once had hair loss.
