  1. After a successful trip to Oslo, Hasson and Wong patient advisor Thomas will be in London on July 28 and 29 to see prospective patients. You can learn more about Thomas and read his story before your visit here: https://hassonandwong.com/hair-transplant-story/

There is also a post on his result here: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/186924-dr-wong-5328-grafts-fut-full-coverage-new-rep.html

  2. This Vancouver area patient in his mid-30’s was bothered by his receding hairline and also had diffused thinning throughout the top of his scalp extending to parts of his crown to the extent of which may not be clear in the pre-op photos. Once the hair was shaved prior to the procedure, Dr. Wong could get a more accurate idea of exactly which areas could be safely addressed. Working from the front, Dr. Wong rebuilt the hairline and temples, continued into the mid scalp on his way to the crown. Most of the work was done in the hairline/frontal zone, temples and crown, the mid-scalp required fewer grafts. Of the 5181 FUT graft total, 1948 were single hair grafts, 2763 were double hair grafts and 460 were 3-4 hair grafts. These photos were taken 16 months post-op. (a little bonus coverage of Dr. Wong in action:))

  3. This patient in his early 50’s from the Vancouver area came to see Dr. Wong to restore this thinning and receded hairline. 1862 grafts were used via FUE of which 189 were single hair grafts, 973 were doubles and 700 were multi-hair grafts. A 9 mm motorized punch was used to harvest the grafts. These photos were taken 1 year post-op which includes the last two showing the donor area. Interesting to note that he wore his hair longer on the sides and back when he had the weak hairline. With the new hairline, he's gone to the more fashionable and appealing hairstyle which definitely enhances the transformation in my opinion.

  4. To be honest (and this is in no way intended criticise your results, which are looking superb by the way!) I think that may be due to the fact that H & W appear to routinely take their FUT scars quite a bit higher than other clinics in order to facilitate this type of haircut.

Again, not really a negative, but I don't think it's down to some "scar-wizardry" (though obviously, H&W have more experience than most when it comes to FUT)!

No offense taken. Thanks for the compliment. What I might add in response is that often times the best donor hair is higher up. In addition, if the patient wants to wear a fade, the doc can take the hair a little higher in the permanent zone. If taken too low, especially in cases of retrograde loss, you can run the risk of getting hair that may not be as strong and susceptible to thinning. On many of our repair patients I've also seen incisions taken to low even without much retrograde and if too low, the skin tends to be more elastic and the scar can stretch. I do believe over the years good doctors have taken notice that taking the strip too low is not ideal. I agree, no "scar-wizardry", just knowledge, experience and skill.:)

    On another note, Gigantass: Fabulous!

  5. This Vancouver area patient came to see Dr. Hasson about his weak hairline and thinning crown. 4693 grafts were used to rebuild the hairline and frontal zone blending into his mid scalp and increasing the density of his crown. Some of the very center of the mid-scalp was not transplanted and medication was employed to hold the margins and possibly improve some of the existing hair. Of the 4693 Grafts, 1904 were singles, 2564 were doubles, 225 were 3-4 hair grafts. There are no immediately post-op pics, The last two photos are 2 weeks post-op, the others are 10 months post-op.

  8. This patient from Mexico in his early 30’s wanted to restore his hair many years after a childhood accident. Boiling oil was spilled causing extensive scarring and damage to the follicles. His first attempt to address this was to have a surgery performed in Mexico City 5-6 years earlier. As evidenced in the pre-op photos, it did little to achieve his goals. Not satisfied, he intensified his research, enter Hasson and Wong. With no MPB and very good donor, Dr. Hasson was confident he could restore the areas of loss. Because of the scarring, 2-3 procedures were planned. After the second, the patient is very happy and the reconstruction is complete. These photos were sent in by the patient 9 months after the second procedure. In the last photo set, the pic on the left shows the growth from the first 2142 grafts, shaved down to prepare for the 2nd procedure. The pic on the right shows the placement of the grafts in the second procedure immediately post-op. Because of the scarring, 2 separate procedures instead of one were employed. We don’t try and dense pack into scar tissue so the first procedure is conservative. Once the first is performed, blood supply returns to the tissue allowing for a more aggressive 2nd pass. The second procedure used 3104 grafts. This is an update of a previous post on this case, that had some broken links, seen here: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/157297-dr-hasson-patient-burn-victim-2142-grafts-one-session-11-months.html

  9. This patient in his mid-30’s from Vancouver went back and forth on his decision of whether to have FUE or FUT. He decided on FUT and was happy with his decision as the scar is not an issue. 3493 grafts were used to restore his hairline and parts of the frontal zone. 917 single hair grafts, 2447 double hair grafts and 129 3-4 hair grafts. His hair is on the fine side and he is wearing a styling product. This result is quite impressive especially considering it is only 6 months post-op

  10. Thanks for the comments guys!

PeloDinero: I would say he is between a Norwood 5A and 6.

UKLad81: One surgery. Hard to say on grafts per cm2. Maybe 50-60 in the frontal zone, less in mid and crown. It is important to be able to create enough density for a natural result but each case is different. I tell patients not to get caught up in the numbers. One patient may require 70-80 cm2 and another only 40-50. Too many factors to paint a broad brush. The doc will know how dense he'll need to pack it for the maximum cosmetic impact. I'm waiting on a few more pics of the mid-scalp and crown, I will post hopefully soon.

Shampoo: Yes, he is quite a happy and proud graduate!

  12. This patient in his early 30’s traveled from Norway to have his procedure with Dr. Wong. His goals were to have as many grafts as possible and cover as much of the scalp that the procedure would allow. His areas of concern included both the front and mid scalp as well as the crown. Needing a large number of grafts, he felt Hasson and Wong would give him the best chance to achieve his goals. With 5328 grafts, Dr. Wong was able to deliver. The 5328 grafts via FUT consisted of 1797 single hair grafts, 3082 doubles and 449 3-4 hair grafts. These photos sent in by the patient are 2 years post-op. So happy and impressed with his result, he wanted to help potential patients in Scandinavia where he feels the options for a quality hair restoration are limited at best. He will be seeing patients and representing Hasson and Wong in Oslo on June 11-12. 13. Are you saying that a total of 6000FUE grafts would have given the same coverage/result as the 7264FUT session?

    kramer79:

Generally, yes. 6,000 FUE may give a similar result to 7,200 - 7,500 FUT. Since we can pick only the grafts we want with FUE, fewer singles make up the total and therefore with more 2 and 3 hair grafts, the total amount of hairs is greater than with the same number of grafts in an FUT. So we figure on average between 20 and 25% more coverage or density with FUE versus FUT given the same number of grafts. This would likely hold true for the medium to larger cases. If we need a higher number of singles for just hairline work, the percentage may drop a bit and in some smaller cases not be much different.

  14. Thanks KO.

    Andy,

If this was FUE, we would have probably done around 4,000 grafts in the first procedure.

The second would have been around 2,000 for a total of about 6,000 FUE. This total number may have been the equivalent of around 7,500 FUT as far as coverage and result. So we would probably conclude that with FUE he could have had a similar result in 2 procedures to what he achieved in the one FUT session.

  15. Spanker, GasThoeroer, Andy, Spidey, HairLostYears, David, Home1212, Triple7, HTsoon, Thanks for all the comments!

GasThoeroer: His loss is MPB and not DUPA. His donor hair was quite good and not showing of any signs of weakness that would prevent a procedure. His sides may continue to drop a bit without medication but the permanent donor zone was easily identified and deemed sufficient.

Andy/Spanker: Thanks for the recognition on the documentation/pics.

Andy: Unfortunately I did not take these pics, I usually can elicit a smile when I do. He is quite happy even though the pics would not show it! I have attached another pic, slight smile? How’s that? :)

HairLostYears: I see the Rivers Cuomo!

Apollo89/mosd: These photos depict only the first surgery result of 7264 grafts. The 2721 grafts for the crown were placed after these photos were taken.

Home1212: Don’t have any scar shots but can probably get some at some stage.

HTsoon: I have also uploaded a post-op shot of the placement for the 2nd procedure of 2712 grafts.
