  1. When this Vancouver area patient came to us about his hair loss, it bothered him to a considerable degree. However, at the time of his procedure, he was not in a position to commit too many resources to his hair. While Dr. Hasson believed the best possible result would require something in the 4000 to 5,000 graft range, this patient asked what would be the minimum amount of grafts that could still achieve a substantial cosmetic impact with the idea he could have more later. It was determined that if Dr. Hasson could rebuild a nice hairline and add adequate density to the frontal zone, there was enough hair behind the frontal zone in the mid-scalp and crown if grown long enough to create a nice amount of coverage and blend with the reconstructed frontal zone. Given all factors, something in the 2,000 graft range was estimated to be enough to achieve the goal for the first procedure. 2155 were ultimately harvested and 362 were single hair grafts, 1473 were doubles and 320 were 3-4 hair grafts. The plan was to reevaluate a possible second session once the first session was fully grown in and financial resources were replenished. With the exception of the last photo set, these photos represent the 2155 FUE result 18 months later taken before his second procedure to address the mid-scalp and crown. The last photo set at the bottom represents the 1 day post-op from his second procedure to complete restoration of the mid-scalp and crown. 3200 grafts were employed for round two and we hope to have updates on that in the future.
  2. Thanks for the nice comments guys! Mycroft, I would say a half inch is about right but it depends on your definition. There was some fine hair at the location of the reconstructed hairline so you could say the hairline was kept at its same location and just strengthened. But if you consider the hairline before the procedure to really be where the stronger hair starts, it would be considered lowered. Up for debate I guess 😊 Transplantdphil, Dr. Wong estimates around 100 single hair grafts per side. Maybe give or take 20-25 grafts per side Thx ciaus 😊 Rob7331, Temple work is technically more difficult and many clinics will not even attempt it let alone get it right. In my opinion, without the technology we developed and perfected (the lateral slit, Dr. Wong, and custom sized blade, Dr. Hasson) this result is not likely possible. You’ll need a very skilled and knowledgeable surgeon using the proper technology to pull this off.
  3. This Vancouver based patient in his late 20’s approached Hasson and Wong in hopes of restoring density to his hairline. He first began to lose his hair in his mid-20’s characterized by thinning of the temples along with some hairline recession. Upon review of this patient’s case, Dr. Wong determined he would be a good candidate for the procedure and reconstruction of the temple points would also enhance the cosmetic impact of the result. During the course of the one-day FUE procedure, Dr. Wong and his staff successfully transplanted 1300 grafts to restore a slightly lower and much stronger hairline. Temple points were also reconstructed as planned. 203 of these grafts were single hair grafts, 733 were doubles and 364 were 3 hair grafts. These photos were taken approximately 1 year after the procedure he is very happy and impressed with the final results.
  4. Thanks for the comments ! asterix0, Dr. Hasson will assess quality and quantity of donor reserves, area to cover and a few other factors. He can then reasonably determine if the supply will meet the demand and can therefore advise the patient on what he expects can be accomplished. For FUE he'll take into consideration that he can select more double and 3-4 hair grafts which will provide more coverage than with the same number using FUT. He will also determine if the area is fairly large whether FUT should be considered first to maximize coverage in cases where the patient is open to either method he recommends. deitel130, Laxity was not an issue, he could have had FUT but had conviction he wanted FUE to enable the option of this short cut. Hair texture was slightly above average. giegnosiganoe, No. He is considering it now.
  5. This Vancouver area patient in his late mid to 30’s began to lose hair in his later 20’s. A more recent evaluation of his hair loss prompted a try of Rogaine for about a year with little success. Finally he decided it was time to visit Hasson and Wong in hopes of improving his hair loss situation. It was determined FUE was the best option and Dr. Hasson and staff proceeded with a 2 day FUE procedure which produced a total of 4855 grafts. Day 1 addressed the front/mid and yielded 2609 grafts of which 300 single hair grafts, 1826 were doubles and 483 were 3-4 hair grafts. Day 2’s total harvest for the crown was 2246 grafts, 1569 doubles and 677 3-4 hair grafts. These photos were taken 1 year post-op with his donor area cut to a #1 guard. The patient is extremely pleased with his result and wanted to share. We also hope to have him back soon for a video. 6. Thanks Melvin. Hi deitel130, The exercises definitely do help in most cases. We have seen patients for consultations where we felt the mobility of their scalp might have only yielded around 3,000 grafts if surgery was performed that day but we wanted closer to 4,000 or more. If the patient diligently performed the scalp laxity exercises up to an hour a day, within 6 - 8 weeks we could likely harvest 4,000 or more depending on how committed the patient was to the exercises. All scalps are not created equal and some can be manipulated better than others but for the most part an improvement should usually be possible. You can refer here for more details on the exercises: https://hassonandwong.com/scalp-laxity-exercises/
  7. Thanks for all the interest guys, I'm looking forward to addressing all your questions on Thursday!
  8. xabi86, Patient is using Finasteride and started it about 20 months before his procedure.
  9. Hi guys, thank you for the comments. Curios25 probably summed it up best. Did you guys look at the post-op shots? It’s not just hairline work here. The work extends into the frontal zone and mid-scalp. I thought I explained the reason for the higher number in the recap. This is nothing new for Dr. Hasson’s results if you’ve noticed. He can dense pack better than anyone I’ve ever seen. Most patients want the highest density, within reason, they can get. In some cases this density is essential and warranted for the absolute best result. In other cases a lesser density is acceptable. It’s a numbers game. You can’t create a great result with good density unless you have a certain number of grafts to work with. All things being equal, the more grafts the better it will look. A substantially lower number of grafts for the same area will not look as good, period. Other factors such as hair shaft diameter play a role in how many grafts are necessary. A patient with fine hair may need 4,000 grafts in the same area a patient with coarse hair may only need 3,000 or less. My opinion of course is good call….🙂
  10. Hi Guys, To provide a bit more clarity: As everyone knows our clinic has been closed as part of our effort to control the spread of COVID-19. Border restrictions for US patients have been extended to June 21. We should get an update closer to that date. However, there is some uncertainty as to whether that date may also be extended so we’re obviously in a wait and see situation. For patients who want their procedure as soon as we reopen we have placed them on the wait list to contact as soon as we have clarity and can perform their procedure. Many patients without a sense of urgency have moved their procedure date into September and beyond. If things go better than expected and there is an opportunity, they also have the option to move their date up sooner into July or August if desired and possible. We had decided that it was best to book a little farther out rather than to keep moving dates every few weeks. Hairloss PA, I know you were not planning on dealing with this pandemic but even if you have your procedure by Nov 1, you should look pretty darn good by June 2020 so don’t despair yet 😊
  11. Thanks for the comments guys! Mycroft, The patient was apprehensive about the donor hair shave so Dr. Wong was able to limit the harvest to the lower part of the zone especially given the small number of grafts. No strategic reason other than for his comfort level and to to help alleviate his anxiety🙂
  12. Aftermath, seeing that head of hair under any conditions never gets old. Thx for sharing!
  13. Vancouver area patient in his mid- 30’s had some slight recession and weakness in his hairline. As is often the case in what seems to be minimal loss, the patient was bothered daily by his hairline. With above average donor hair to work with, Dr. Wong and team transplanted 900 grafts using the FUE method of extraction. 204 were single hair grafts, 634 were doubles and 62 were 3 hair grafts. These photos were taken 10 months post-op.
  14. Hi Mark Wolfer, My apologies for the delay. Generally speaking, FUT will yield a greater number of grafts in total from donor bank reserves. Therefore, in cases such as a stage 6, it may be preferred to start with a large FUT if we need to cover a large area. That is not to say we couldn’t do FUE but every case is different and there can be a few factors involved in the decision. An FUE procedure can damage nearby follicles if not executed properly. This can also hold true in an FUT procedure. For FUE, improper punch size or technique and lack of skill can result in collateral damage. The skill of the surgeon along with technique can also most certainly influence the precision of a strip excision. Damage to follicles can both reduce the donor bank and also increase the appearance of the scar. We have been as efficient as anyone in strip excision and we’ve carried that over to our FUE extraction. As I have stated before, there are many phases that need to be executed properly to achieve the best possible overall result. Harvesting of the grafts being one of them. It is important to treat both the donor and recipient areas with a great attention to detail. Which method of extraction would best suit you may depend on a few factors which I’m happy to further discuss with you if you desire.
  15. Hi Guys, We had a issue with the server hosting our photos. We hope to have it resolved sometime today. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  16. Melvin, Thx! If you have the donor, maybe your wish can come true...😉 home121, Agree☺️
  17. In case anyone is interested, this is immediately post-op from the 2,500 graft session completed on day 1. Remaining 2,000 grafts completed on day 2.
  18. This Vancouver-area patient in his mid 20’s came to us bothered by his weak hairline with receded corners. With above average donor hair and manageable areas of concern, Hasson determined he was a good candidate for a hair transplant procedure. With either method of extraction a consideration, he opted for FUE. During the course of the two-day procedure, Dr. Hasson and his team successfully harvested a total of 4010 grafts. Upon initial observation it might seem that something in the 2,000 to 2,500 graft range would suffice. However, considering all factors, Dr. Hasson was able to be a little more aggressive with hairline design. This coupled with the fact the recession in the corners extended deep into the frontal zone and even parts of the mid-scalp (more evident in the post-op pic) , the higher number was warranted. Day 1 of the harvest and implantation consisted of 2505 grafts with 300 being single hair grafts,1833 being doubles and 372 being 3-4 hair grafts. Day 2: 1505 total, 1182 doubles, 323 3-4 hair grafts. These photos were taken approximately 1 year post-op.
