  1. Last month I felt pretty good about my hair and enjoyed one of the best haircuts I can remember in the last 15 years. However my hairloss has now come back to be even more rapid then before over the last 45 days. I am very alarmed as I am losing tremendous amounts of hair from my crown over the past month to the point that I can see my scalp with difuse thinning all over. About six weeks ago I got a Rx for 2% Ketoconazol shampoo over this same period and started using it 1-2 times per week. Does this shampoo cause excelerated shedding?? I hope the shedding can be attributed to the shampoo but it seems so extreme. As mentioned in previous posts, I have been using Propecia since it became available. I am considering using Avodart but I'm concerned about the side effects. Yesterday, one of the doctors offices that comes recommended on this site suggested I use Avodart because 95% of the patients have success (5% have side effects). Can anyone here that experienced side effects from Avodart (low libido, impotence, male breast enlargement) please tell me how long it took after you discontinued using Avodart to return to 'normal' function? Or even if function was returned at all. I know the half life is longer with Avodart but I don't know how this translates to returning to normal once it is discontinued or if for instance male breast enlargement reverts back to normal. Has anyone tried cycling between Avodart and Propecia to minimize Avodarts side effects? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Hello, I started using Ketaconazole 2% (Nizoral) about 6 weeks ago (2x per week) and have noticed considerable shedding. Is this to be expected?? I'm very alarmed. Has anyone else seen shedding with this shampoo? Thanks.
  4. No response?? Was I supposed to post this on a different thread?
  5. I had somewhat of the same situation. I have to leave my hair long in the back to the point that even after my haircut the hair in back is at least one inch long. The first doctor I went to removed hair below my occipital bone, whereas it is best to remove if from above this bone to prevent scar stretching. The only thing I can think of besides using a concealer is to get a BHT into the thin area, just enough so that you feel confident that the back of your head looks fine. I have not done this but I have grown accustomed to my hair length in back. Plus I want to conserve my body hair to fill in the gaps in my crown should I require another transplant. The cost is also a factor.
  6. The shedding I was experiencing had not been as extreme as earlier, in fact last month I felt pretty good about my hair and enjoyed one of the best haircuts I can remember in the last 15 years. 7. the closeup pics of his hairline have been removed. he had very large grafts in the frontal region. maybe he has had them thinned out since then.
  8. Salman wears a hair piece I believe. Get's it from Europe. Sly had a transplant. Do a Google image search and see a close up of his grafts (Search Slyvester Stallone hair transplant)
  9. he was not a coalition doctor but he was recommended by a coalition doctors office who i will be visiting in december. i had questions regarding avodart vs. propecia and they suggested i speak with this doctor who is a dermatologist.
  10. thanks CyberneticNuker i appreciate your input!!
  11. i was thinking of using body hair to repair my neckline nape since the general concensus is that it is not ideal for the top of the head. this would allow me to use donor hair without worrying about destroying my neckline even more. i have a consult with dr konior next month. hope he can provide me with some direction. also, as an udpate, the 2mg of propecia/day caused side effects so i am back to 1mg per day. does anyone know if there is any benefit to 2mg every TWO days instead of 1mg/day? thanks
  12. i took 2mg of propecia a few days in a row. i started feeling the side effects (ED). i'm wondering if i take 2mg every other day or third day if i will still feel the side effects given the half life of propecia. comments?
  13. well i took 2mg of propecia today. the doctor told me not to start with nizoral 2% shampoo yet as i won't know if upping the propeica dosage is working or if it's the shampoo. he also suggested going of rogaine foam which i started about 1 week ago. again he wants to know what is working and when we mix meds or treatments we don't know which is working and which isn't.
  14. i had another consult with a doctor today. he suggested that instead of using avodart i should first try upping my dosage of propecia from 1mg to 2mg, then possibly 3mg per day. the doctor says he has done this with several patients and they are happy with the results. he also said that the makers of propecia state 1mg to be 'optimal' they do not define what optimal means. has anyone used more then 1mg/day of propecia? he also mentioned to me that some of his patients are taking melatonin for hair loss. if taken in a tablet form it can cause drowsiness. some of his patients are taking it or applying it before bed. does anyone know how melatonin helps fight hair loss? thanks!
  15. i spoke to a rep from intercytex today. i asked him if a solution would be available to the public by 2010 and he said 'not likely'.
  16. thanks for the info bill the reason i would like to avoid more scalp hair transplants is because after the last session i had (which was more then 14 years ago) my 'neckline' (as opposed to frontal hairline) was destroyed. i have to grow my hair out in back in order for the back of my head to look somewhat normal. i know i have enough donor hair for maybe one more session, taking hair from the sides of my head, but i was really hoping for hair cloning to become available and avoid a transplant. since there has been no update on cloning i thought BHT might be an option to buy some time. the problem i am facing is the shedding has come at such a fast pace this time that i am struggling to find the right solution for myself. i was contemplating going on avodart instead of using propecia but the physician i saw (who is recommended on your site) told me that avodart's side effects are NOT reversible so it's a little scary for me. i was also told not to take nutritional supplements such as creatine as this can contribute to hair loss. i've been taking this supplement for more then 10 years with no problems. nothing has changed in my supplement or medicinal treatments other then an huge and sudden increase in stress since april. this forum helps answer questions and i'm grateful to have an outlet. if anyone has an update on cloning please share your knowledge. thanks.
  17. does anyone have any experience with transplanting hair from the body onto the scalp? i have shed a tremendous amount of hair over the last 6 months. i have been under a lot of stress during these months so i'm not sure if it is stress or baldness. i've been using propecia since it came out and just started with rogaine foam at night as per doctors instructions. i consulted with a physician recommended on this site and he said hair cloning is probably 5 years away and even when it does come out it will be about $25 per graft. he also said that it won't be used for the hairline but for the body of the scalp (non directional hair is what he said). i would like to wait for cloning or buy some time and i don't feel like i have too much donor hair to give so please share your knowledge about body hair transplants for the scalp (not frontal area). does body donor hair really take on the same characteristics of scalp hair once transplanted? many thanks to all.

  19. last week i went to go see one of the local surgeons recommended on this site. he told me that he does not recommend avodart because the side effects are not reversible. please ask your doctor before you start down this path. thanks. i'm staying on propecia for now.
  20. I met with one of the recommended physicians from this site. He mentioned to me that weight lifters that take creatine and other such supplements can experience hair loss. This does not include protein supplements. I'd never heard of this. Does anyone else have info on this? I've been taking creatine for a long time and recently started experience more hair loss at the vertex. Thanks
  21. My stress levels this year have been tremendous. Over the last few months I've lost a tremendous amount of hair. I'm wondering if the hair will grow back once the stress is reduced or is it lost forever. Thanks.
  22. Thank you. This was what I needed to hear. Do you also use Rogaine in addition to Avodart? If so, do you use the foam or liquid? Thanks again
  23. hello, i've been taking 1 mg of propecia since it became available in 1997. over the last few months i've had a lot of hair shedding near my crown to the point where i can now see some scalp showing. has anyone switched to take 1.25mg of proscar to combat more shedding? has this worked for anyone? i'm not sure what to do since i'm taking 1mg of propecia already. i plan on starting rogaine foam soon but i'm dreading the initial hair shedding that i read occurs when you start rogaine. i feel Avodart seems too risky but i plan on asking a doctor about it. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
  24. Thank you Bill. The doctor recommended from your site whom I consulted with recommended Rogaine Foam. I'll try it out for the duration recommended. Any advice on shampoos/conditions, etc. or is it all just a gimmick? Best
  25. hello. i'm new to this forum. i wish it was around 15 years ago when i started suffering from hair loss. i had 3-4 surgeries between 1993 and 1994 but i had them as i was losing hair so it was hard to detect at the time. i started suffering from major depression due to this as i was only 24 years old. most of the hair in front has been replaced. after the last surgery i felt as if the hair near my neckline was obliterated. i cannot cut my hair short in back due to this. a high quality doctor recommended on this site has told me i still have donor hair if needed but i am terrified of going back under the knife. i won't get into the details yet of which doctors i went to. my question pertains to meds and products that everyone is using. i've been on 1 mg propecia since my transplant. over the past 6 months i've noticed a lot of hair loss near the crown of my head. this concerns me due to the area that would need to be covered with donor hair. aside from propecia, what else can i try that actually works? i've read that rogaine will initially cause severe hair shedding. is this true? can you please help me understand what other meds and products everyone is using. it would be helpful to keep a 'sticky' or record of these somewhere on the forum. thanks again for your help. i got a haircut this week and for the first time in more then 10 years i can start to see hair loss near the back of my head. and i'm worried that i'm slipping into depression slowly so i'm trying to be proactive in dealing with this.
