While most of the ht docs say all patients should focus on the hairline and "fix what everyone sees first", my experience has been quite the opposite.

 

My crown bothers me more than the receding hairline. Anyone else feel the same?

 

It seems not to bother me as much as I'm looking people in the eye when the glance up to the hairline. However, when I'm sitting in front of someone, I get real self-conscious thinking they are looking at my balding crown.

 

So, if God had given me a vote - I would have chosen receding harline over balding crown. Now, I know it's hard to cover the crown so I agree I might as well fix the front as best possible.

A balded/thinned crown is annoying; a balded/thinned hairline is an aesthetic apocolypse. Slight exagerration, perhaps, but mostly how I see it....my plan is too definitely weight my grafts towards the front and not worry much about density in the crown (unless, of course, I have enough grafts)....dermmatch/toppik work great there....plus, there is a relatively decent likelihood that an FUE innovation will grant us a larger donor, which will work best in the crown/vertex.

 

A true "bald spot" in the crown.....I could see how that would drive one crazy...but I stil think a wrecked frontal 1/3rd is the absolute worst....I think that you could get away with rather modest density, but good coverage in the crown and slap on some dermmatc/nanogen and pull it off pretty well if you are dense elsewhere.

I too am more concerned about my thinning crown as my hairline is receeding at such a slow pace it does not bother me at this present time.

 

If i have no concealer in my crown i`m paranoid when bending down or someone sitting behind me is looking at it.

 

I agree with Thana though if my hairline was shot to pieces i would concentrate on that before my crown.

This is an interesting topic.

 

And it's true that people will be bothered by different things.

 

I happened to be one that started losing hair in my crown before my hairline. In the beginning of my hair loss, I was extremely concerned about my crown and was extremely concerned about it. It wasn't until years later that my hairline started to thin (not receed). Once the hairline started to thin a lot more, though I was unhappy with my crown, the hairline to me became more urgent. After all, the hairline frames my face and is seen more than the back of my head.

 

On the flip side, when I had the option on my third surgery of 3700 grafts with Dr. Hasson to densely pack more in the frontal half of my scalp or sperad it out more into the crown, I chose an overall thinning look because I was tired of having a bald spot in the crown. Though I would like more hair density (and might even go back for it), covering the crown at least a little bit was more important than having a super dense front.

 

Different strokes for different folks! This is why the discussion of hair restoration goals needs to take place verbally with your physician and so no assumptions are made.

i could have lived with my receding hairline as long as it wasn't going totally away. my crown really bothered me though and i'm gld dr. feller was able to pack 1200 grafts in there.

Crown or front both pale when compared to thinning nostril hair...
