propecia experience - sex drive

Thought i would post my experience with propecia. I am 37 and have been taking propecia for a little over 2 years. My hair loss was a slow loss of hair since 28 with a receding hairline and some thinning on the crown. After taking propecia for a a number of months, hair was noticeable thicker on crown however the receding hair line has slowly continued.

when i started taking propecia i had just broken up with my girlfriend - i had a very active sex life having sex twice a day. Now i cant be quite sure but with my last girlfriend that dropped in 3-4 times a week - probably normal but still a big drop off - but i am 37 now. i think propecia has cause a drop off in sexual drive and my sex drive might have increased if i hadnt taken it for a couple of days (my dose was 1 every 2 days) - this is very hard to tell though.

what concerns me is the potential for erectile dysfunction - can this be verified? are all studies biased? and the really big thing is there a long term impact - as i havent had a family yet i think i will explore other options eg natural supplements, maybe laser (does this work at all) and lastly hair transplant. I have tried regaine but that caused dizziness every time i tried it after a few days.

aussieguy,

Sexual side effects are a very real possibility with Propecia, even though reports as rare. If you suspect this is a problem for you, you may want to consider minmizing use of it to every other day or stopping it altogether. Of course, hair loss will most likely continue without it, so there's a tradeoff.

Best wishes,

Bill

Aussie talk with a doctor, i had sides also. In the beginning when i fitst started it i was more horny than ever!!!but after some months things went soouth icon_frown.gif. It wasnt extremely bad i still could have sex its just that I wasnt like my old self... then things got progressively worst maybe my mindset amplified the sides because i started worrying about it ...though the lack of morning wood closed the deal for me.

I talked to my doctor and he told me to stop it to see if i got better.Eventually i did but it took time.It worked great hairwise but when i stopped i lost everything and buzzed down my hair...thats the downside bro but it was better for me than the other "downside" icon_smile.gif

should we believe everything?

Hopeful,

I think that is a very important point. Whilst the potential for side effects are very real, I genuinley believe that the mind is very powerful, and when you are experiencing such negative thoughts regarding sex and all things related, it would for sure add to the issues.

I'm no doctor, and could be wrong but here's what I think.....

Have you had your testosterone checked? About 3 years ago I started taking Lipitor because my cholesterol had gone up to like 235 or so. I noticed after a few months that my sex drive had went down, so I told my doc I thought the Lipitor was the culprit. He suggested checking my T and sure enough it was low.

Now, I rub a little gel on my arm in the morning and I think about sex all the time! And, it makes you perform better in the gym as well. I wouldn't recommend it if your T is normal, but if it's low you'll feel tired, weak and won't be thinking about sex.

The thing about Viagra though, is it doesn't help with your desire to have sex; it only gets it up. There's a difference.

The cure for doing it twice a day though is a good dose of marriage and kids. You get about three kids running around and stay faithful to the same woman for about 10 years, and you won't be doing it twice a day! icon_cool.gif
