FUE donor pain

Hi,

I was told I need 3000 grafts, however as I was going for FUE, I had to divide it into 2 sessions. So I had my first 1500 session 7 days back. I thought FUE would cause the least amount of pain. My donor and recipient sites has healed well. Everything looks normal. But since the 3rd day, I have been having a lot of pain in the donor area. Its a burning pain. For some reason it gets better at times and worse for no reason. The whole area, although well healed and looks normal from the outside, is sensitive to touch and a bit numb too. Is this normal? Is this something to be worried about? Is it going to get better? Can this be a nerve damage of some type? Is that a possibility? I would appreciate any info/help on this.

Thank you.

drmstx, thanks. I talked to the doctor. He asked me to keep taking the pain killers and give it more time. I just wanted to know if any of you have had such an experience. How much time it took to recover?

With FUT or FUE there is some transection of sensory nreve fibers. Although it is not as common with FUE as it is with FUT, some prolonged pain and numbness is possible. In time you should regain normal sensation to your scalp. However, I do recommend keeping in close contact with your doctor to provide updates of your situation.

Thank you Dr. Charles. Just spoke with my doctor. He says most patients never experience such pain during healing. But when nerves regenerate this may happen. The sensitivity is often difficult to treat or deal with other than just being patient. It would help if I try not to do anything which may stimulate them. Most pain or anti-inflammatory medications may not work well with this type of healing "burning" sensation.

spex,

I live in Singapore. I met with Dr. Pathomvanich in Thailand some time back, however he prefers strip. So I didn't have too many options available in the South East Asian region for FUE. Finally I decided to go with a Singapore based doctor. Harvesting was done with the French (promotional link removed)Omnigraft machine. Which looks like the (promotional link removed)Neograft machine.

Keep us up to date with your results. Automation of FUE is easy to make sound like the best thing since sliced bread. I look forward to reproducible, peer reviewed, published studies of the results of these new devices.

For now, we are sticking with a much more Doc's hands on approach.

I had some minor donor pain with fue, but it was localised to only 2 fue holes, so it was manageable. Your pain will subside, I know of a few people who had unbearable fue donor pain, but it did go away. Take some strong painkillers for the duration to make it less painful.
