Senior Member HarryHonolulu Posted March 13 Senior Member Share Posted March 13 hey all I hopped on the oral minoxidil 2.5% bandwagon back in early December. I underwent two foot surgeries last year and my hair felt incredibly thin and wispy. I think it might be related to the surgery. Since taking the oral minoxidil I noticed quite a lot of shedding but no regrowth yet. I also noticed that the hair hasn't changed density in any noticeable way. Should I remain calm? Wouldn't it have kicked in by now??
Valued Contributor Gatsby Posted March 13 Valued Contributor Share Posted March 13 Remain calm. It takes 12 months to see the full benefits of oral minoxidil. Under the guidance of your physician you could even increase it if you are not experiencing any associated side effects. Valued Contributor A_4_Archan Posted March 13 Valued Contributor Share Posted March 13 Minoxidil can initially lead to a temporary increase in shedding, which usually occurs within the first few months of use. This shedding phase is often a sign that the medication is starting to work, as it helps to remove older, weaker hairs to make way for new, healthier ones. To fully appreciate the benefits of minoxidil, it's advisable to continue using it for at least 12 months. This extended period allows the medication enough time to stimulate hair growth and for new hairs to become thicker and more visible. After the 12-month mark, you can then assess the effectiveness of the treatment and decide whether to continue using it.
