the crown dips farly deep while is his top hair seems to be fairly in tact..

 

i know balding can start from the crown but normally the crown isnt dipping at that stage?

Looks like a 2 part surgery with me, with the first covering the hairline and midscalp. Second one to come on the crown. Would have to see the front properly though...

His hair line is pretty high, so it could be normal. My own hair loss started in the crown. Before it got really bad I looked like I had a full, thick head of hair from the front, but I had a bald crown. It didn't dip as much as his at that time though, but that could be because I was still young and it didn't have time to dip down that far yet. This is when I was still in my teens.

His does also look fairly thin in the donor area on the sides above his ears, and the transition is fairly abrupt on his vertex. 
I could be wrong, but his doesn’t look particularly natural imho.

He has very advanced retrograde alopecia which I don't think you usually see in someone who had a hairline like his. Not that his hairline is perfect, but NW2/NW3 don't usually have retrograde loss that far up the ear.
