FUT scar issues

I had a HT surgery in Korea last year.
That was a unpleasant experience,

I had FUE+FUT(nearly 6000 hairs)transplanted, I didn’t want to do it by FUT because I was very worried about the scar problem, and now it really happened to me.
Now(After 9 months)E3682B91-D98D-45F6-9DB3-5976816F3E63.thumb.jpeg.b7623985eedc3343dd19833d317f3faf.jpeg

No sign of regrowth, very stressed and helpless, don’t know what to do.

do you guys think I should try steroid injection? Or anything else I can do?

Thank you for your time

Some people will have BHT grafts placed in to the scar, others may have scar revision. I have had a scar revision on mine and while it improved it’s far from perfect, I am looking at getting Beard grafts implanted next.

so there is no way it will regrowth?? This really stresses me out :( And sadly I don’t have much facial hair, this might not be a option for me

Regrowth no, that scar won’t have any hair follicles to regrow at present. A scar revision would hopefully close it up better..

you should follow the verteporfin thread

verteporfin could make your scar disappear

this guy got fut surgery with verteporfin after already going through multiple fut surgeries before

in a few months we will know if his scarring got noticable decreased or not

Wow I have never heard of this, thankyou for sharing this information, I just took a quick look, seems it only works on new wounds? Or go with the surgery at the same time?  But still this is very informative, hope this will help people never go through what I m experiencing. I still hope there is some way I can do :(

You seem to have good donor density. You can try to place grafts into the scar to hide it.

Just curious why you went with FUT even though you didn't want it?

I thought I have good donor density before I had my HT, but unfortunately I was told by the Doctor that I wasn’t, that was also how they “convinced” me to go thro with FUT

Yes I never want to go with FUT, I asked for FUE from the beginning because I know I would be so depressed if this happened. I went to Korea by myself, and the first day should just be a simple consultation so I have time to think of the options, but I was told my consultation appointment was rescheduled to the same day of the surgery (AM Consult PM surgery) after I alrdy confirmed my flight ticket and hotel room and all the staff, even I told them I would like to stick with the original plan, they left me no choice. Then, that morning at the Clinic Doctor gave me a rush consultation, and told me I need to go with FUT if I want a better result, and I needed to decide immediately, I was super stressed and felt pressured at that moment, so I made a bad decision which is totally my fault.
This experience taught me that Never agreed to a rush consultation, HT is a lifetime surgery, a lot of small things you should discuss and let the doctor and team know, like the hairline shape, temple angle, hair direction…which I had none detail discussion :( ps. I can not comb my fringe down because of the direction they implanted

no its likely that i can also remove existing scar tissue. in your csse they could cut the scar out, apply verteporfin and the scar should disappear

But what about the follicles on the scalp? Do you mean cut out the blank area? And it will regrow with follicles? That’s kind of Magic if so

Interesting. So there was still scarring. It isn’t full proof. Which would make fut even more interesting because scarring on fut is usually more pronounced/common. I wonder if verteporfin treatments injected into scar every week or month after the procedure would benefit it at all? Would be interesting. I assume it would be expensive for a patient to get verteporfin use after their procedure

based on the studies, a one time application is best. Yes, it isn't foolproof the way it is now at least, but we hope to first fully establish that it helps, and upon establishing that, get it to as close as foolproof as possible.

Will be awesome if they ever do find a way to prevent scarring. Regrowing hair would be a miracle but preventing scarring could change the surgical industry

@Burns I'm so sorry to hear what happened. It also happened to myself many years ago and continues to happen. At 12 months post op you could consider having SMP to change the contrast of the scar and your black hair. This should make the scar less obvious. Then a year after that you could consider having beard hair or body hair placed into the scar via FUE. Vertoporfin is a long way away but something that you could consider if it ever gets approved. All the best.

I am so sorry to hear your experience. It's not your fault, the clinic should not push you to make a life changing decision without giving you time to think about it.

I think the scar can be concealed pretty well with grafts placed into it. The frontal hair direction might be more complicated to fix but it's possible. I think Dr. Feriduni does this kind of repair quite often.

Thanks man, SMP is a good idea, although I still hope the blank area could be regrowth even a bit and less noticeable. May I ask how wide your scar is? And how natural is it after you did smpIMG_4070.thumb.jpeg.e7f406406bbb5e6fed37f2f1aa4578f9.jpeg

mine is like a finger wide

Thankyou, I really do feel better after I told you guys, I hope no one would experience what was happened to me, this is so stressful and helpless. I m still looking for something that I can do at this stage, anything could help even a tiny improvement :(

thanks again

My scar is pretty much the same size as yours. I had about 600 beard hair grafts transplanted into it four months ago and it's growing pretty well, but I could tell my scar is still going to be a problem. I don't know what your hair loss situation is like, but you seem to have a good donor so perhaps you could have some hair transplanted in the scar.

Hi, about 20 Years ago i had FUT surgery that left a scar from ear to ear that was wider than yours. I had to keep my hair long to cover it, but when i got wet hair the scar was extremely unsightly and very visible. Then 14 months ago i went to Eugenix in India to have work done, hoping for some help, and the scar was 2nd on my list of to dos. My crown was first, and my very thinned out eyebrows were third.

They implanted scalp and beard hair into the FUT scar, to the point where on the day, it looked totally covered.

Even though the Doctor cautioned that it may not regrow in the scar, i took a punt on it working.

14 months down the track, just recently, i had a video call with Dr.Arika and another senior female Doctor, who finally were resigned to the fact, that not only my FUT scar replenishment was an abject total failure, but to their amazement, my eyebrow implants were very poorly done. My Crown, which i was also very disappointed in, [lack of density] was contentious as they said you can come in for more work to thicken the sparseness, but my thought was why didn't they just do it then? No one really asked how far apart do you want the grafts implanted-i just said give me what Melvin was given! What they put in has grown but i was unhappy with the job, sadly, as the crown is still very empty, and Dr. Arika was hesitant when i showed her, initially, realising and agreeing to the lack of density, but explained, the grafts, that they had implanted, however wide, and thin they were, still regrew.

But, even then,  they were prepared to write my op. off and refund me for my eyebrows and scar work that failed.

I said can we give it 3 more months, for the scar and brows, which they would wait to see if miracles happen, then we will close the chapter on my miserable failed Eugenix venture.

I am now looking at a last resort and SMP, for my FUT scar, as a plastic surgeon i consulted wasn't willing to minimise the scar as he believes they weaken and get even wider, potentially. Sad, for me and the total experience, but the blood flow in the scar region wasn't good enough for regrowth. It looks the same as it was 20 years ago. SMP is the last frontier i think. Caveat emptor.

Is 600 grafts enough to cover your scar? Because mine is pretty long and wide and The Doctor told me I might not be able to do a second HT because lack of donor hair from the beginning, and I barely have any facial hair or body hair. Do you mind to show how yours looks like now? Thank you for your reply

That is really sad and I can see how stressful it would be, my scar is pretty long too, I need to wear my hair long to cover it which isn’t really comfortable, and when my hair get wet or oily, it is pretty visible, that also makes me very insecure. I am sorry to hear that your 2nd HT experience wasn’t good, they really should discuss more with you and let you know more about the surgery details before they operated it, do you know how many grafts had you implanted on your crown?

and if you don’t mind, could you share a pic of your scar, how is the skin texture looks like now, but it’s okay if you don’t want to.
I hope you do find some improvement in soon future

I'll have to wait another 8 months to see how my scar repair turns out, but I don't think 600 will be enough. My doctor initially planned on adding more hair to the scar, but he felt like my beard donor wasn't that good and so we did less. If I get SMP, then it would probably look pretty good, but I don't like the idea of spending $2,000 every 4 years to redo the SMP. I don't want to populate your thread with my photos, but I have photos of my scar posted in my thread in my signature. I also posted a four month update recently with current photos of my scar.

I think you should consult with other doctors. I can't see your full head in the pic provided, but I feel like you'd have enough donor hairs for a second transplant.
