What are your opinion about NEO Grafts?

While web surfing I found a article about NEO Graft.which claims it's fda approved and states "NEO grafts transplants roughly twice as many hair grafts (e.g. ~1,500 grafts) in a single surgery as the previous manually-performed FUE surgery (e.g. ~750 grafts) in the same amount of time. It Cuts the cost of treatment by as much as half as it reduces the need for additional surgeriescan." If the claims of NEO graft is true, we can all greatly benefit from it. What are the doctors and poster on here opinion regarding NEO graft. For those that never heard about Neo graft here's some info about it from their site.

"From a surgical standpoint, an FUE hair transplant is extremely simple. It is a very safe, relatively minor procedure, unlike the standard STRIP procedure still used by most doctors today. With an FUE hair transplant the hair from the back of the head is harvested with our special instrument and placed in the thinning or balding areas on the top of the head. The hair at the back of the head is genetically programmed to not fall out, unlike the hair at the top of the head. The patient is awake during the procedure, and can watch T.V. or talk with the doctor. It is virtually a painless procedure aside from the few initial local injections of anesthesia which feel like pinpricks. The NeoGraft machine is designed to help the doctor offer his patients the latest, most advanced procedure in hair transplantation. When a doctor puchases a NeoGraft machine, he will be provided with hair transplant training, a highly skilled technician who will assist during the transplant proceedures and support.

The newest most advanced method of hair transplantation is called FUE (follicular unit extraction). The FUE method is the least invasive method since there is no cutting and suturing of the scalp as there is with the STRIP method, sometimes called FUT, which most doctors still use today . With the FUE method there is little bleeding, minimal or no visible scarring, and very little recovery time. With the FUE method follicles are harvested individually from the scalp and transplanted to the balding area. Very few transplant doctors offer the FUE method for a complete hair transplant because it is very time consuming and therefore more costly. Most doctors suggest using this method for the hairline or a very small transplant area. The NeoGraft machine has been developed to assist the doctor with the FUE procedure. The machine shortens the time for the FUE procedure allowing large transplants to be done in minimal time. Over 6000 transplants have been done to date in Europe and the Orient with excellent results. Now patients in North America can have a complete FUE transplant as well.

The number of hairs that can be transplanted and number of procedures depends upon the extent of hair loss, the amount of hair at the back of the head, and other artistic and medical considerations. Most transplants average between 800 follicles up to as high as 5,000 follicles in one session. A follicle can consist of one to four hairs. The average transplant is around 1200 to 2500 hundred follicles. To do this many grafts, without the NeoGraft machine takes a great deal of time. The doctor will need the assistance of several technicians. The NeoGraft machine reduces the time needed for the transplant as well as the number of technicians. With the NeoGraft machine the doctor can do the transplant with the help of one technician or by himself. Reduced time and technicians means reduced costs. Often the patient can have the results they are looking for in just one or two hair transplant sessions.

Without the NeoGraft machine certain conditions of the scalp or hair prevents some patients from being candidates for the FUE procedure. Some patients have a very tight scalp, or a thick scalp. Some individual's follicles are deeper, and more firmly anchored than other people's. These differences may require more tugging, pulling and twisting of the follicle by the doctor or technician who does not have the NeoGraft machine, increasing the chances of damaging the follicle. The NeoGraft machine applies just the right amount of pneumatic pressure (suction) to allow for easy removal of the follicle with the least amount of handling of the follicle. With the NeoGraft machine more people are eligible to have FUE transplants done because the qualities of the patients skin and hair do not affect the performance of the machine. For the small amount of patients who cannot have the FUE procedure the Omnigraft machine, which is similar to the NeoGraft assist the doctor with the STRIP method as well.

Follicles grow at an angle and some individual's are more angled than others. The NeoGraft machine has an angled instrument to allow the doctor or technician to remove the follicle minimizing the chances of cutting through the follicle. Another problem with the standard manual way of doing hair transplants is that the follicles are inserted into the bald area with instruments that push the follicle into the slit. How well this is done also depends on the skill of the doctor or the technician. An unskilled doctor or technician can damage the hair bulb and that follicle will never grow. The NeoGraft machine uses just the right amount of pneumatic pressure to insert the follicles into the slits.

With the NeoGraft machine the follicles remain more robust for transplantation because the time for the transplant procedure is greatly reduced."

I cannot understand why the member who calls himself, or herself Please Grow Please is knocking Dr. Alan Bauman - "anything Alan Bauman endorses worries me." This kind of statement is pretty strong and should be substantiated before being allowed on the internet. Unless you mean to do harm to someone with innuendos, why not let us know what it is about Dr. Bauman that worries you? We would all like to know so we can be honestly informed. As far as I know he is one of the most sought out hair transplant doctors in Florida, doing a very large number of transplants a year. Since he acquired a NeoGraft machine he has been even busier. If patients did not think highly of him do you think he would be such a popular choice among patients?

Last month and several months before two people had transplants done with him that could have chosen any other doctor. One was Kevin Nalty who was the former director of Propecia, and now does marketing on the internet. He could have gone to any hair restoration doctor since he probably knows more about hair restoration than most people from his propecia experiences, but he chose Dr. Bauman and NeoGraft to do his procedure. The procedure was done using NeoGraft live on the internet. Thousands of people watched. Next Dr. Bauman did a hair restoration for Kevin Nalty's friend, Greg Benson, someone in the film industry and this procedure was also done live on the internet using NeoGraft. It drew a huge audience.

Dr. Bauman is technically savvy and he understands how NeoGraft works. As a result he understands the value of NeoGraft in his practice and for his patients. You can follow Kevin Nalty and Greg Benson on the internet as they are regularly showing videos and pictures of their transplants so people can see how their hair is growing and how successfully NeoGraft does hair restoration surgery. They are doing this to help educate the public about FUE and NeoGraft.

As for Nuhart. they do not use NeoGraft. They do a manual FUE procedure and they call this procedure neografting. NeoGraft is an automated hair transplant machine that speeds up the process of transplantation, extracts excellent quality grafts which do not trimming, and helps the grafts to remain more robust because they can be transplanted more quickly. With NeoGraft the grafts are not handled manually, which avoids the damage that can be done to the grafts with a manual FUE procedure where the grafts are pulled or yanked out with tweezers and pushed in with instruments. I hope this clears up the confusion.

Honestly guys, don't believe all the hype about FUE or Neograft. YES FUE is less invasive than strip, but the single biggest reason why strip surgery is used by the worlds best hair transplant surgeons recommended on this network is because STRIP HAS PROVEN OVER MANY YEARS TO GIVE, IN THE RIGHT HANDS, THE BEST RESULTS AND THE BEST YIELD. The problem with FUE is that grafts get damaged and not all of them will grow. Whereas with strip, this is far less likely.

I don't know if neograft improves the yield of FUE, but I aint about to go risk wasting my precious donor grafts to find out!!

Do your research (for at least 6 months) on this forum and weigh up all of your options. Listen to and learn from others.

Good luck.
