Hey guys,

I've had my HT 5 weeks ago today and since one week I hava a sort of dandruff/dried skin containing hairs (sometimes 5-6 ) on the scalp that fall off after showering

Is this normal? My receiving area is still pretty red too

NickJ,

Yes, this is perfectly normal.  Typically, hair shedding occurs 4 to 6 weeks after hair transplant surgery but It can start to occur as early as a week or two. Also, it’s common to experience a dry and or red scalp for the first couple of months while healing.  From your pictures, everything looks to be healing nicely. As long as you selected a reputable surgeon, I trust everything will go well for you.

best wishes,

Perfectly normal to shed and to have dandruff like material. I personally switch patients to ketoconazole shampoos  4 weeks after surgery twice a week. Just consult with your clinic to check if they are ok with that.

Believe it or not, Head & Shoulders is a great shampoo for dry flaky scalps and very reasonable cost.

Agreed 👍🏽 It’s one that I will use/alternate with at times.

So to keep people updated and who could have made the same mistake as I did

The reason I had so much dandruff is simply that I was way to cautious when washing my hair, I kept cleaning it like this till week 6 after HT

Using Nizoral twice a week and Head & shoulders and washing normally it went away, I did lose a little bit more hair but I guess you can't avoid it since I am at the 2 months mark
