Senior Member BaldDude Posted April 24, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted April 24, 2022 Is there a universal medical limit for how many grafts one should get in one day? Seems some clinics advise 2 surgeries while others advise doing it all on one day. Have there been studies that mega sessions lead to poorer results? The problem isn't "Mega Sessions" but rather the competence of the team such as the Dr leading the procedure and the technicians responsible for sorting and implanting. Even the best have to deal with fatigue and honestly, there's nothing wrong with a split day procedure. It's probably more advised to mitigate any potential issues from fatigue. 1 Follow my first Hair Transplant Journey! Senior Member SeanT1 Posted April 24, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted April 24, 2022 (edited) The longer the graft has been extracted, sitting in a dish & not implanted; the less likely it will survive. Most doctors try to do no more than 3000 but you'll see many places offering 4000 in one session. This isn't to say one mega session doesn't work, it's just more risky. I personally got 3900 grafts in one session, one side is slightly thinner than the other. Edited April 24, 2022 by SeanToman
Senior Member 1978matt Posted April 24, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted April 24, 2022 (edited) Bobby Limmer studied graft survival about 30 years ago and found it to be 88% after 8 hours out of the body; although this was stored in Saline and not modern holding solutions. Interestingly it was still 79% after 24 hours and even 54% after 48 hours. Mike Beehner did a similar study with Hypothermosol & ATP and had results around 100% at 8 hrs and 82% at 24. Most reputable doctors won't go much beyond 3500 these days, with a few exceptions who have large teams to cope with the extra workload. I think 3500-4000 is a good FUT limit and 2000-2500 for FUE.
