LMyR
This is something I've been thinking about recently. I've seen people do an SMP after a hair transplant to make it look more dense. But what about making your thinning hair look more dense in order to buy yourself more time before you do a hair transplant and eventually needing less grafts to achieve a good result? Has someone in here done it this way and is that even an option?
Senior Member HappyMan2021 Posted January 26, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted January 26, 2022 Where on your scalp are you thinking of getting SMP done? I personally would only ever consider SMP on the crown, never ever on the hairline. My own personal opinion but I would rather just naturally be bald or have a buzz-cut. With SMP you can only have that very very short buzz cut illusion anyway.
Senior Member EvoXOhio Posted January 26, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted January 26, 2022 Some HT doctors won’t do an HT if you have SMP, they’ll require you to laser it off first. Of course some doctors will do it with the SMP still there.
Valued Contributor Gatsby Posted January 26, 2022 Valued Contributor Share Posted January 26, 2022 I recently had a hair transplant over my SMP. I lasered back the SMP hairline deliberately about 10-15mm before the surgery. SMP is often used in thinning hair, hair transplants, scar camouflage, etc. I had been wearing SMP for six years so if I knew I was going to have a transplant at the time I probably would have passed on the SMP. It’s just the way things panned out. All the best! GATSBY 'UNPLUGGED!' 15,671 (3 surgeries) Grafts FUE+BHT Dr. Sethi Eugenix
