ItsTiago
Hi all. Im new here and im Portuguese. So sorry if my english isnt the best. I have a question and i will try to not make it confuse. I started oral Minoxidil and Finasteride like 2 weeks ago. Prescribed by my doctor. I have MPB. I know that drugs have different mechanisms. One is a stimulant and the other is a Dht blocker. But in term of results they are similar. Hair growth, tickness etc... I read and saw on youtube some guys that took Minoxidil for like 2 or 2.5 years and lost all their gains because they werent taking Finasteride. I started both drugs at same time. So lets suppose that in 1 year i will have results in thickness, growth etc. How will i know if both drugs are working? Or if its only Minoxidil working? I ask this because i can be taking both drugs, and in 2 or 3 years i lose all my gains only to discover in that moment, that only minoxidil was working and not finasteride. Not only i lose minoxidil gains and also i lose 2 or 3 years of keeping hair because i was thinking that finasteride was working. I know that doctors are specialists. But how can they say if both are working in 1 or 2 years without risk losing hair, time and money? Thank you. Senior Member TommyLucchese Posted August 19, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted August 19, 2021 Finasteride is much more powerful than minoxidil but minoxidil helps too. If in 3 years things get worse then it will be the finasteride that isn't working, because minoxidil losing efficiency isn't going to override finasteride if fin keeps working. But either way it doesn't really matter - either you will stabilise and possibly regrow hair, or it will keep getting worse. Just keep taking both and don't worry about it. 2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. Excellent result. Need crown sorted eventually but concealer works well for now. Propecia and minoxidil since 2010. Fine for 8 years - bad sides after switching to Aindeem in 2018. Switched to topical fin/minox combo from Minoxidil Max in October 2020, along with dermarolling 1x a week. ItsTiago
Yes i know. But my question is. Is there a way to prevent that for happen? To know that Finasteride isnt working while i take both drugs? I know that even on drugs hair loss will progress. But i just want to be certain that Finasteride is working in first years, and that isnt only Minoxidil. If it was only Minoxidil working i would immediately change and try Dutasteride or something instead of losing 2.5 years of waiting and hair loss.. ItsTiago
If i decide to be consulted by the doctor and be analysed with the dermascope thing every 6 months or 1 year mark. Do you think that helps to see if its working? If im getting better etc. ?
Regular Member NYHAIR32 Posted August 29, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted August 29, 2021 Minox seems to work much better around the scalp than the hairline for regrowth. I have been using it on the hairline for a decade now, and I haven't really noticed anything but really tiny small hairs around the hairline that never developed into larger ones. I am unsure if it is really doing anything that the Fin isn't. Take this with a grain of salt though. I have considered dropping it but since I can afford it, I figure not much to lose. Really not sure of how helpful it was. I say this now that I am noticing some losses at the hairline.
Heathcliff
They work in different ways, because Minoxidil does not work directly on DHT. What is the dosage of both are you taking?
