Exploring all the to do's before a Hair Transplant, and apparently Fin is a must before and after? (I had a bad experience on it) - my story.

Hey,

I'm trying to research everything before I make this decision. I have just spent the last few hours researching the Hair Transplants.  Trust me, I do not want it to come to this point of a hair transplant. My journey went like this. My brother lost his hair at 21, fully balding, and my dad the same. So I feared for my future.

I always looked after my hair but realized I was thinning at the age of 26/27. At the age of 27, I went to the Belgravia certain in the UK. They prescribed me Finasteride and Minoxidil, I remember being super excited about a plan of recovery, however, in week 1 into this combination I felt major side effects. My heart was pounding, I felt super weak, and it got to the point where I fainted on this combination in the work office. It terrified me to try both and I haven't touched it since. In the past, I have had anxiety problems and the Belgariva center told me if they knew this they would not have prescribed me the combination of Fin and Minoxidil.

Fast forward a few months, I did a ton of research and found a product called Haarklinikken. A Danish brand promoting natural hair loss recovery where I put natural serum in my hair every night. It's been three years, and I guess I saw some minor improvement, but now, I feel like my hair has gotten worse. It is receding on the sides, however, I do not think I am balding fully yet.

I've been crawling the internet and forums for all the must do's before a hair transplant. Questions keep coming to my mind that I don't find the answers to like:

  • When is the right time to consider getting a Hairtransplant?

  • Where do I go to get one, surely there is a list of the top ten clinics around the world, I can travel as well... (located in the UK).

  • Which is the best one for me to get, fut vs fue, what's the difference?

  • What if I can never take Fin or Minoxidil, does this affect my post-operation results?  People are telling me I can't get a transplant if I do not use Finasteride?

  • How much should I save to get a good transplant, I don't want a poorly done one?

Surely there is a blog or to-do list for me to go about this, if not, I will start one?

Would appreciate any help and any advice, I like to research so please direct me to all places.

1. When you’re financially able and have done sufficient research

2. There isn’t 10 quality clinics in the UK unfortunately. But there are some good ones, here’s our list of forum approved surgeons.

https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/surgeon-list/UK/United Kingdom

3. Can you share pictures? Hard to say which is best it depends on the person. I’ll write in depth about this all.

4. Transplanted hair doesn’t require any pills or treatments, but your non-transplanted hair does. You could end up with net gain unless you stop tbe progression of hair loss.

5. Price depends on how many grafts you need. Decent surgeons start at 2.00 euros per graft.

Hi @Melvin-Moderator,

Thank you for your reply.  I just went and took some pictures (it's at night so sorry for the quality) but feel like this could be the best way for me to get a good assessment.  I have older pics as well of what my hair use to look like, and I can take proper pics tomorrow for you if you want.   Please see attached the pics I just took now March 23, 2021.  I know, I need a haircut, we are currently in lockdown. I think my sides are okay, I was surprised by my bold patch (the one with flash on the camera shows my skin), and as you can see the widows peak receding lines. Is it bad? I am fairly new to all of this so yeah, I want to do this right, but I don't ever not want to have a boner again if I take Fin, I am OCD enough already.

1.  I will start saving money over the next year, when I do the right amount of research through this sub with people like you, I will make the decision, however, people telling me about Fin scares me because of my reaction.

2. https://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/surgeon-list/UK/United Kingdom - this list, you said there aren't top 10 in UK, are there better one's in Turkey. If I am in the UK where should I go and why? I am really new here so wanting to get some advice and direction, genuinely, please someone guide me.  Which one out of these Dr. Raghu Reddy, Dr. Fas Arshad FRCS, Dr. Bessam Farjo do you recommend and why?

3. Shared pics for you.

4. What do you mean Net Gain, as in, I lose my normal hair whilst my HairTransplant hair thrives?

Please any more information would happen, and a diagnosis about my pics would be great as where I am at now and what I should be looking to do. Genuinely, I am terrified of Fin but not sure what to think.

I wouldn’t touch the crown. Definitely not worth it. As for recommendations, I like all three of those doctors, but remember lists and names are starting points for research. I always advocate for researching through real reviews. That’s what separates our site from others. Anyone can write a top 10, 25 surgeon list. But lists mean nothing if theres no consumer ratings. Take some time and look at our surgeons review section. Feel free to pm and ask our members for their unbiased opinion.

Hey mate,

Was hoping you could tell me what you think about my current situation, you asked for pics?  What do you think of where I am at right now and what I should be doing?

You’re thinning, not too bad. Hairline is receded. If I were you I’d concentrate on the hairline and let medication like fin and min keep the crown.
