Hi All,

I'm a total newbie here an have started doing lots of research into getting transplants. My hairstylist told me I am looking at around $5k to get my hair looking full again. Here are some photos of what my hair looks like now

I am looking for some good doctors in the bay area to talk with. So far I have found Tom Rosanelli who is local. I'm willing to travel a bit to get a quality job done. Any recommendations on how many graphs/cost you think I need and doctors would be greatly appreciated!

Glad you found this forum and don't take too much input from your hairstylist about an HT since I doubt she/he's actually done much research on it :-). Depending on the hairline and density you're looking for, you'll be looking at anywhere from 3500-5500 grafts to get a very nice result from a top doc.

Consider consulting with Dr's outside the Bay area as well because location of the Dr. should only play a very very minimal role in your decision.

I'm in the L.A. area and went to Dr. Alexander in Phoenix and had two procedures of about 2700 each. The first HT came out awesome and I'm 4 months out from the second and am expecting the same. Check out his work here on the forum. His rates are $4 per graft which is about the same for all of the top Dr's.

Spend some time over the next couple months getting as much information as you can and do some phone consultations with some top Dr's before making a decision.

If you're not already on propecia/finasteride and rogaine/minoxidil than you really should give it a try. It will definitely help maintain what you have and you may see some new growth as well.

Best of luck in your journey!

Check out Dr. Carmen. You won't be able to get much for 5k, so save up for at least 2500 at $9-10k.

Welcome to the board. I think you will find a lot of knowledgeable people here.

Hts range from around $4-$8 per graft. $5000 would only be around 1000 grafts. That will not cover your head. There are some mathematical calculations a doctor can do to guesstimate how many grafts you will need.

I wish you the best of luck if you decide to move forward. icon_smile.gif

Agreed -- get on fin/propecia. Also, what Emperor said about ~4500 grafts to get you to a solid, full look....realize the truth to this, and then factor in how many sessions this will likely take you (this will vary significantly clinic2clinic).

Your hair caliber looks pretty good, though it's tough to truly tell. And, your loss doesn't seem too vicious....fin + one (two at the most) quality HTs and you could be ballin'.

You will need at least 3000 grafts so 5000$ will be too low. Don't trust your hairstylist who obviously does not know what he/she is saying. Do lots of research. You came to the right place.

I am not a doctor. The opinions and comments are of my own.
