Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted September 1, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted September 1, 2009 First let me start by saying that this fellow is potentially the toughest guy I have worked with. Meaning that if I were an enemy combatant, I'd pick a whole lot of people to come after me before I'd pick this guy. I have had the priviledge of working with lots of soldiers, but this guy was so tough, it was almost comical. An example: I STRONGLY encourage preop valium, particularly in patients who look tough--as they, more than other guys, tend to be more likely to get nauseus or even faint. So this guy refused valium, hadn't picked up his pain meds and I was sure he was going down. With the first needle injection in the donor he says "thank you sir, may I have another". I thought he was putting me on. But during the course of the day, and since, I have found him to be every bit of the tough guy he calmly professes. Well he wanted repair of his frontal triangles, which we did with just around 1700 grafts, comprised 2/3 of singles and 1/3 of doubles. He was fairly uptight in the first half of the strip harvest and I think his blood pressure was up requiring some cautery--which resulted in shockloss along the left half of his strip. This became more noticable at the 2 month visit.(I think I referenced this guy in 2 previous HTN posts so if this sounds familiar, that is why). He shaved his head and his 2 month pics are shown. He called recently and wanted me to check his progress, and I reminded him that I don't really expect to see much happening for 6 months. So I was really surprised to see what I think is around 60% growth at 5 months and 1 week. We'll check him at a year and put up a few more pics. As expected, the shockloss around his scar has resolved, and what initially looked like a terrible scar; has done really quite well. Even with his continued jujitsu fighting! Bill - Seemiller
Dr. Lindsey, What a great and funny story. I guess to those trained for combat in the military, the minor pinches of the local anesthetic during hair transplant surgery are nothing! He's looking good at only 5 months. Keep us posted on his progress. All the Best, Bill

Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted October 13, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 13, 2009 Thanks Mick, This guy is a character. Tough as nails, follows few instructions, wears his military helmet right after surgery and doesn't clean, yet seems to grow quickly. He should be back around New Years for more pics. Regular Member alwayswaiting1 Posted October 13, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted October 13, 2009 Dr. Lindsey, I was wondering, did he pay his tab or did the military cover some it (via tricare)?
