Senior Member clerksband Posted January 27, 2019 Senior Member Share Posted January 27, 2019 (edited) For the ones who take it regularly: - Which is the recommended daily dosage? Usually I see 160mg or 320mg but I also see that the most popular brand sells them with 3,000mg in each pill. - Have you experimented any side effects? Less libido and weaker erections? - Can you take it in addition to Finasteride or that would be overkill? - If you take it and decide to stop, can you do it cold turkey? Senior Member pkipling Posted January 31, 2019 Senior Member Share Posted January 31, 2019 The opinions on the efficacy of a supplement like this vary amongst different people and surgeons. I took it for quite some time but honestly can't speak to if it even worked or not, nor did I experience any side effects. I think it's a great alternative to Fin if you experience side effects with Fin, and I don't think there would be any harm in taking it and trying it out... And there's also no harm in stopping a supplement cold turkey. That said, when it comes to medications (or anything somewhat related) it is best to consult with a doctor and have them formulate a game plan for you. Senior Member clerksband Posted February 1, 2019 Author Senior Member Share Posted February 1, 2019 Thanks for the reply, but being that Saw Palmetto is basically a midler, "natural" version of Fin, wouldn't the sides appear too?
Senior Member Fozzie Posted February 1, 2019 Senior Member Share Posted February 1, 2019 Really don't think saw palmetto does much for hair loss, especially at the recommended dose listed on labels. Who know's, if someone experimented and took a crazy dosage, it may have some effect (although I'd still be doubtful) but then I'd imagine side effects may well start showing up anyway. Senior Member gillenator Posted February 1, 2019 Senior Member Share Posted February 1, 2019 Being that saw palmetto is an herbal based supplement, there are not going to be any measurable side-effects taken at realistic amounts. Having said that, it is not a DHT inhibitor like a finasteride and why an extremely high percent of people do not experience any meaningful results from consuming saw palmetto. It's a stretch to say that it's a natural version of Finasteride. There are claims that it can help the hair in the same ways that Finasteride does, but these aren't founded in any concrete studies. (And this is coming from someone who's a big believer in natural forms of supplements and treatments, and I still don't think I would be alarmed about any side effects from Saw Palmetto as I'm not sure how effective it would be to begin with.
