Senior Member ZeoRanger Posted January 9, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 9, 2016 What happens if a patient has to undergo an unavoidable surgery (gen. anaesthesia) within first 12 months after he received a hair transplant? What happens to the grafts that haven't matured to that point? Will they be lost because they've been shocked into telogen effluvium due to anaesthesia before they had the chance to mature? Senior Member spyk777 Posted January 9, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 9, 2016 Is this a flight of imagination. How will anesthesia stun hair growth!! It affects brain receptors.
Senior Member ZeoRanger Posted January 9, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 9, 2016 Google "hair loss after general anaesthesia". Apparently is it's common after 3 months of surgery.
Senior Member spyk777 Posted January 9, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 9, 2016 Interesting. Rare, reversible but yes concerning. Guess if It was me, would do the HT following the important surgery for every reason.
Senior Member ZeoRanger Posted January 9, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 9, 2016 You may not have a choice. Imagine you break your leg 4 months after your HT and need surgery right away to fix it.
Senior Member Transhair Posted January 10, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 10, 2016 If the grafts are healed and just normally a part of the scalp, I'd imagine the worst problem would be maybe having to wait a few more months to see hair growth. The follicles are the strong back of the head type, so I can't see them just dying from surgery stress.
