Thinning cycles beginning 2 years after HT

Recommended Posts

I will post photos soon, but to get this thread going here is the deal. I had a HT with Dr. Hasson November 2011 (been on Proscar since 2006) and have been very happy with the results. Beginning around September 2013 I noticed thinning in what appears to be transplanted areas in my hairline. At first I thought it was just thinning of my natural hair but 4 months after it thickened again and seemed back to status quo. After reading up on seasonal shedding that seemed to make sense. However, this appears to be happening now every 3-4 months; thinning for 3-4 months then normal for 3-4 months consistently for the past 2 years. I have looked at my before and after photos a million times (many will understand) and I swear this appears to be an area of transplanted hair as I had little to none in that area prior to surgery. Again, I know pictures will be helpful but wondering if anyone has insight or has experienced the same phenomenon? I wonder if having a gap of 4-5 days not on Proscar (lazy med refilling) every 3 months is causing a med shed? Thanks for any thoughts/insight.

It sounds like your transplanted hair is getting thinner in diameter as you're getting older. This is normal for most people (NOTE: this is not the same as hairloss btw).

But thats just my guess. I'm not an expert

The gap of 4-5 days of not taking your finasteride should not cause a shed, generally speaking because of the long shelf life of the drug.

Are you by chance dealing with a higher level of stress in your life?

Probably a case of lighting and being in the mirror or phone selflies too much. You can make the same head 30 percent thinner just by looking at it too much and in bad lighting. You could expect your hair to be a bit thinner (10%?) A few years after a transplant when your natural hair starts it's normal cycle. At least I have read about this, but you should not be seeing much waxing and waning in 3 or 4 months.
