Need some advice

Hi guys/girls

I am planning on getting a fue transplant to fill in my temple region in the next 3 weeks with Dr Erdogan Koray in Turkey. I am from Sydney Australia, and the flight times are minimum 20+ hours depending on stop overs ( I will try get the least overall flight times) what is your opinions on flying home the next day or should I wait an extra 1,2,3 etc? I am travelling along way and am going to be spending my hard earned money so I want the grafts to have the best chance of survival. Would the swelling be affected flying in the head? I remember flying to Europe the uk this year and my feet were swollen. I'm guessing because of the circulation and that I didnt move them around and walk enough.

prp... Is it worth it and will it help the recovery time or is it a waste of time and money? I have read mixed reviews on this.

Appreciate any feedback as I am looking to book my return flights soon.

Many people have flown the day after a HT but I would advise you to fly out after the post op checkup and first cleaning. You need a day to examine your head and apply whatever your doctor prescribe better spend a day to relax and decompress after surgery. Of course, a lot of it has to do with how many grafts you receive and how much area is covered, for smaller sessions, the next day is fine.

Swelling can happen to some patients and usually starts to set in two or three days after surgery, then gets worse until it is basically gone by day six

So either fly out the day after surgery or better stay for a week if time is no constraint

PRP- In short is waste of money but most clinic offers it for free, if its free then get it

thanks for the responses. definitely not looking forward to jet lag >_< the surgery will be roughly 2500 I'm norwood 2 getting temples and hairline restored, i don't have any thinning anywhere else. i have heard that swelling can be delayed as to why i was curious.. i don't know whether i should fly out 2 days after surgery or wait an extra 4-5? how long does swelling generally last and is there anything i can take to reduce it?? there is a charge for the prp.

Hi, Sorry for responding you so late. There are versatile advice can be given on this kind of queries. Well it varies according to the condition after the hair transplantation immediately. Some Hair doctors have the firm advice that forehead & facial swelling sometimes associated with hair transplantation truly arises the second or third day after the procedure. Many Hair restoration specialists believe that the particular patient should visit the clinic after the procedure for post operative wash & checkup and then go home.

Either way, most hair loss physicians do not believe in change in the environment likely the pressure and elevation associated with flying cause any excessive bleeding or hair damage to the new grafts. My advice would be like suppose a patient want to travel immediately after the hair transplantation they can do it with keeping mind overall condition of hair possession.

Thanks for the responses, I wasnt intending on flying out the day of the transplant but was told it was fine the day after the post op check up. I questioned this as its such a long flight, they said 1 more day would be fine, but because I have heard swelling doesn't start till a day or 2 after I should possibly give it a few days. Surgery is on the Monday, so maybe I should fly home Thursday or Friday. Is there anything besides the mess they give you I can take to reduce swelling and any advice what kind of pillow would be best on the plane. Would a loose beanie be better than a loose fitting cap? I want my donor and recipient area to have the best chance.

Flying home on Friday sounds good!

Buy a large size baseball cap or a loose beanie but before wearing do get it check from your HT doctor, they will show you how to wear it properly without damaging any grafts

You can buy Travel neck pillow, easily available from amazon. Do buy a comfortable one!

Hey DM6 - I'm also flying from Sydney and booked with Erdogan in 3 weeks; my surgery day is Tues 8 Dec. I'm travelling with the other half and we'll take a 5 days post-op to see Istanbul as tourists, otherwise I would have flown back 2-3 days post-op. I'll be glad to be getting the daily wash at Asmed while I am super cautious in the first few days.

With FUE, you may not even experience much swelling at all. Mine was very minimal.

As for flying home the day after - I'm sure it's fine, especially if given the go ahead by your doctor. However, for practical/comfort reasons, you might want to consider waiting a couple days. I was out and about the day after my procedure and was driving the next day, but I really don't think I would've enjoyed a 20+ hour flight. Those flights are hard enough (for me anyway) when you're in normal condition - and even moreso with any pain/discomfort you may feel after the procedure.

Hey ersko, that's the day after my procedure. Have you converted you aud to euros yet? If so how are you doing it? No doubt I will run into you over there, are you staying the five nights at the Radisson blue? I wouldn't mind going and exploring some of Istanbul aswell. Are you at all concerned with the current situation with Isis etc? Apparently there was a suicide bomber in Istanbul

Couldn't agree more pkipling, those long flights suck, especially with big stop overs. I might even stay a couple of days post op and then fly to Thailand or Bali to recover, good food, people, massages ;)

Definite YES on those massages. Now that sounds like a solid plan.

Hey Dm6- I missed your comment and only just spotted it when the thread was updated. No, I haven't converted my cash yet - planning to go to the FX exchange on Thurs so I'm only minding the cash for 2 days before my 6am Saturday morning flight. Have you managed to convert yours?

Ever since the Paris bombings and Russian flight was shot down the instabilty has been on the back of my mind - however I'm at the point of no return so no point worrying now.

Yes, I'm staying in the Radisson Blue, for a full week in the end. I wanted a few days as a tourist prior to the op- then a few days to feel nice and close for cleans and questions in the first few days following. I fly out 5 days after my op for a quick holiday in Dubai (2 nights) and Malaysia (7 nights) and land back in Sydney just prior to x-mas.How many nights are you in Radisson for?

If you'd like to catch-up next Sunday so we can calm each other's hysterical pre-op nerves, I'm very open to doing so. Let me know :)

That's fine, where is the FX exchange?? i still haven't transferred my money yet, I am trying to find the best place, but I really need to do it today or tomorrow. I land in istanbul on friday and leave the following thursday so I am more than happy to catch up with you whenever. I was starting to feel that way after the paris bombings aswell and then all the stuff with russia, but i am at the point of no return too! i guess just being mindful of our surroundings is the key. If you have fb, send me through your details and i will to chat to you there
