How much should my hair plant cost? Please HELP!

I live in Memphis and unfortunately my options are limited on what surgeons I can go to. I am now considering going out of state. I am currently on a Norwood 3 and would like to get back closer to my original hair line. The first place i visited was Nubody concepts which specializes in the NeoGraft Procedure. They would do my surgery for $3,900 which actually seemed pretty reasonable. They said I needed about 1200 grafts but I am a bit concerned as I have heard many negative things about hair transplant farms. It also worries me that the consultant looking at my hair is not the one actually doing the procedure. When asking who would do the procedure it was someone she referred to as a (Hair restoration Specialist) of 13 years but it seemed they were not a real MD.

 

I then decided to visit Dr. Thomas Chu who is a licensed MD and has been doing hair restoration for around 25 years but he also does other procedures as well. He told me the procedure would cost me $5,800. I asked him how many grafts he would use and he said 500. WHAT? 500 grafts for $5,800? I have seen some of his work and I am confident he would do a good job but that sounds a little steep. I posted a pic to show my recession.

 

If anyone has any recommendations who can do a great job at a reasonable price please let me know.

I do think you're better off spending a little more money and going with a surgeon who is very hands on and who will be involved with your entire process from start to finish. And while pricing is an important factor, you don't necessarily want to bargain shop when dealing with something of this nature. I think you're right to be concerned with the "hair transplant farms" as you called them, as there are too many horror stories to even consider going that route, IMO.

 

For starters, look at the doctors recommended here on this forum and look at their results. And if you're interested in learning more about Dr. Mohebi, you can always message me for details on my personal experience with him, or check out my blog for details on my consultation and surgery.

 

For FUT, the average going rate is around $4/graft, so you should be able to get 1,500 grafts with an extremely qualified surgeon for around $6,000.

Does 500 grafts for $5800 seem right ? That sounds very expensive.

Sounds a bit expensive to me mate if you look abroad say turkey mist clinics charge 2.5 euros per graft so your looking at more then half of what you got quoted by whatever doctor quoted you 5800. And to be honest it probably is right if your looking in the US if i was you id look into turkey good prices with some great surgeons out there.

Please don't do this. Out of state? People fly to different continents to get these done on this forum, Anyways, you've come to the right place to get educated.

Just Rogaine, I'm scared to use fin because of the side effects. I also hear it's best for thinning on the crown and that hasn't really been a problem.

Don't be turned away from trying Finasteride based solely on the reports of the negative side effects. Those reports are a very small percentage, and I and many other guys take it with little to no complications. It's a very useful tool in fighting hair loss, so don't write it off just yet. It's not for everyone, but I do think it should be considered. And the only way to know for sure if it will cause you negative side effects is to try it out for yourself. You could start out with a really small dose to be extra cautious.

 

As for Finasteride being best for crown thinning, that is often stated because during the trials, that was the part of the hair/scalp they were monitoring. So it's not that it doesn't work on other areas of the scalp, it's just that the studies weren't focused on those other areas specifically. However, the science behind the way it works on the crown would also support it working in the same way on the other regions as well. There should be no difference.
