Can shave off my hair 3 days after FUE?

Hello guys,

I just completed a 1000 grafts FUE on my front scalp last Wednesday (12.03.14) and I did my FUE when my hair was relatively long. But now it has become so difficult for me to manage my hair after the transplant that I just want to shave it off completely now. However my doctor suggested me to wait a week before shaving off. Is there any possibility I can shave now? Its also damaging the hair I have now since I cant shower or clean the scalp completely. Please share your advise.

How I wish I had done my FUE on a shaved hair. :(

Kly,

Your surgeon is right. Shaving your head now would almost certainly damage the newly implanted grafts. The new follicles take approximately 7-10 days to fully "anchor" and become permanent, and any disruption during this period can cause lasting damage. Additionally, it is unlikely that you are damaging your native hairs by not thoroughly cleaning your scalp for a week. Did your surgeon provide you with instructions for scalp washing during the first 2 weeks? Most recommend some sort of light washing with a cup of warm water and mild shampoo during the first few days after the procedure. Altogether, it would be best to wait at least 7 days before shaving your head. Many would argue that you should really wait 10-14 days, but I would follow your surgeon's post-operative advice and instructions.

Best of luck!

In my first transplant, the one thing I regreted is not shaving off my head before the procedure. When you get a transplant, you don't realized how much hair you had lost. So your existing hair is no way to be able to "combover" your look. By day 9, I ended up shaving my entire head. You just have to be careful not to disturb your transplanted hairs if you buzzcut yourself.
