Propecia or Biotin?

Recommended Posts

Got a hair transplant coming up in April and have been using Biotin everyday, with a bit of minoxidil. But heard that propecia is far stronger, should I stop the Biotin and get on the Propecia? Bearing in mind I will be taking them after the HT too

Biotin doesn't have the track record of retaining or possibly regrowing lost hairs like Propecia. Use the Minox and Propecia at the same time - it'll give you the best result. There's nothing wrong with continuing with Biotin while on Propecia and Minox at the same time.

Finasteride is good to keep native hairs from falling and even thickening them if you are lucky, and you'd be even more lucky if you get regrowth, finasteride is capable of these things, depending on the person.

Biotin is good to help both native hair and transplanted hair grow faster. Not to be confused with "thicker" or stopping hair loss, or getting new hair, just faster growth. I'd stay on Biotin and minoxidil and use fin as well. Maybe the biotin would speed up your HT growth? There's also MSM, it kinda does the same as biotin, basically makes hair and nails grow faster. MSM is also good for the skin, or so i've read. I've used it before and it did make my hair and nails grow super fast.

How many pills of Biotin/Propecia do I take a day? And I'm assuming 5mg is stronger than 1mg? About to put an order in but just need to know these little details

Doctors may vary in their opinion and corresponding advice regarding the dosage and frequency of use.

So you really should ask your doctor before starting the regimen and as Janna stated, you will potentially get the best result using them in conjunction with each other.

Out of the three, finasteride is the one that is best suited to inhibit the source of genetic hair loss which is the dreadful DHT.

Best wishes to you...;)

Propecia (finasteride) is arguably the single most effective treatment for genetic balding. Using Rogaine (minoxidil) in combination with finasteride is generally considered the most effective treatment option as the two drugs are said to work synergistically. It's important to note that these two drugs are the only clinically proven and FDA approved medical hair loss treatments currently available.

Biotin is commonly taken for hair growth and is a staple in many natural hair loss treatments but its benefits are unproven. There is no danger in continuing to take Biotin along with Propecia and Rogaine.

Usually people buy Fincar 5mg and a pill splitter and quarter them to take 1.25mg daily.

So Fincar is the European version of Proscar at the same strength...:)

Good points by David and some guys use MSM in conjunction with low dose finasteride and minoxidil.

But only finasteride or dutasteride inhibits the dreadful DHT which is the source of the problem with MPB.

I ordered 5mg propecia from a Canadian pharmacy, came from India though which is weird. And came with some Viagra aswell as propecia affects sex drive apparently.

Anyway, should I start propecia before or after the HT? I'm taking Biotin everyday, maybe its possible to take both? I dont like having too many tablets inside my body

If you did not order the Viagra then that is really weird. Did they charge you for the Viagra or did they feel you would need it? They have no idea if you will have any sexual side-effects! I strongly encourage you to first consult with your doctor.

Anyway, IMHO biotin can be used while taking finasteride and most docs want their patients to start low dose finasteride at least 90 days before any HT procedure. Did you mean 5mg Proscar? Propecia comes in 1mg tablets.

This is also why you want to get advice from your doctor. Have you been formally diagnosed with MPB?

India is a cheap supplier of internet drugs and can be trusted via reputable website. They may throw in free drugs to tempt you not what we would normally expect id agree.

MSM and Biotin seem to do the same. Colliagen can give strength to hair as well

I think they mentioned that it comes with the order because they know it affects sexdrive so most males would order viagra anyway. I probably won't use it anytime soon lol

Yeah I believe it was the 5mg proscar, has a different name though. It's some big blue tablets. And yes I've had mpb for years now, I'm a Norwood 6 I believe.

its most likely Fincar Dr Reddys at a guess. It did little for me so i did Dutas and that gave me a big change however it did nothing for me hair line.

I have had no issues with both drugs but the risk with dut is higher due to its halve life ie takes along time to clear out the system..

Please read up on these drugs before you commit to them as no person should advise you other than a DR or your own choice knowing the risks.

Good post and informative. Is not finpecia and fincar the European form of finasteride? That's what Euro and UK patients have told me.

Finasteride only inhibits one type of DHT and DUT inhibits two types from what I have read. Yet a higher percent of guys who did not respond well to finasteride also did not respond successfully with DUT.
