Regular Member ck31 Posted November 4, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted November 4, 2013 I'm two months post op and wondered if it's safe to go on a diet, will it affect graft growth? I've put on 11 pounds since my operation and if i keep going on like this i'll be the size of a house by the end of the year  I think having time off work and not going out much has had a bad effect and I want to get into shape but is diet and exercise a good idea at this stage? I've got into the habit of staying in with a tub of Ben & Jerrys rather than socialising or going to the gym as i'm in the ugly duckling phase and don't feel like it atm Any advice? Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted November 4, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted November 4, 2013 CK, Dieting is likely just fine, but you may want to call your physician and make sure you are supplementing all vitamins needed for healthy hair growth. Dr. Glenn Charles
You should already be exercising at this point. You will also increase your metabolism by eating smaller healthy meals more often. So I guess the answer to your question depends on what you mean by going on a diet. Senior Member Garageland Posted November 7, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted November 7, 2013 CK31- Oops I know the feeling a little as I have also not been exercising since my surgery and have gained some weight. You should be exercising by now running or cycling or general gym work. If you had strip you should avoid lifting heavy weights for a couple more months but lower weights and more repetition and you will be fine. As for eating healthy yes start this now as sitting in eating a tub of Ben and Jerrys ( i did it too) is going to make you feel like crap. Its easy to get stuck in a rut with the over eating and not going out. Time to make a change now! --- Former patient and representative for Hasson & Wong. Senior Member Janna Posted November 7, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted November 7, 2013 As long as it's a sensible diet of healthy meals, you should be able to diet anytime. Crash diet would be a no, no. As Dr. Charles states, you should be exercising now.
