Senior Member tacolinowest Posted October 10, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted October 10, 2013 i know this is an old tune im singing, but i keep hearing that wearing a hat, even after months of the ht, can slow or even limit the growth of the grafts, in my mind it dosent make sense, the grafts and just hair in general needs blood, not oxygen from the air, can someone give me some input on this, can hats really make a significant difference on how your hair grows? iv been wearing one non stop since my ht and my results although its early , seem slow
Senior Member cueball35 Posted October 10, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted October 10, 2013 I dont think it would make any difference, unless its super tight which might restrict the blood flow? 4510 FUSS Dr Feriduni December 2012 2350 FUSS Dr Feriduni December 2013 HT 1:Total Grafts 4510: Singles 715, Doubles 2123, Triples 1369, Quads 303 ( 10,280 Hairs ) HT 2:Total Grafts 2352: Singles 350, Doubles 1601, Triples 401, ( 4,755 Hairs )

Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted October 11, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted October 11, 2013 The idea that hats cause hair loss or decrease hair growth is a myth. Several months after a hair transplant, wearing a hat will not affect the growth. Hope this helps! Regular Member Reath Posted October 11, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted October 11, 2013 But it does have an effect in the short term?
Senior Member greatjob Posted October 11, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted October 11, 2013 Hats have no effect on hairloss, it's an old wives tale. The only way a hat could have a negative impact on a transplant is if you wore it in the first few days post op and it contacted and dislodged a graft. Senior Member hsrp10 Posted October 11, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted October 11, 2013 I don't believe it has a direct effect if the grafts are solidly secure. However I would give your scalp a chance to breath and wearing a hat could cause you to sweat more. Does the hat rub against your scalp/hair at all? go dense or go home Unbiased advice and opinions based on 25 plus years of researching and actual experience with hair loss, hair restoration via both FUT & FUE, SMP, scalp issues including scalp eczema & seborrheic dermatitis and many others HSRP10's favorite FUT surgeons: *Dr. Konior, *Dr Hasson, Dr. Rahal HSRP10's favorite FUE surgeons: *Dr. Konior, *Dr. Bisanga, Dr. Erdogan, Dr. Couto (*indicates actual experience with doctor)
Regular Member BoomerSooner Posted October 18, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted October 18, 2013 I was told to wear a hat every day until I got enough hair on my head after the transplant to prevent sunburn. It has no effect on your hair growth My hair loss blog http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2631
abcd0000
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. I think you should by all means protect your head from direct exposure to the sun. However the incisions will heal faster if the head is uncovered. I don't think wearing a hat can obstruct hair growth, but depending on your skin type it can be bad for your scalp. Each time I wear a hat for a longer time (2-3 hours or more) I develop redness from sweating or get a zit on the recipient area.
Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted October 29, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted October 29, 2013 We've worked with 2 fighter pilots and one competitive motorcycle racer. All 3 were "back in the helmet" so to speak at 12-14 days and all 3 grew as fast as or faster than predicted. 3 results does not make a study, but may reassure you. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. johnkahen
After hair transplant wearing hat does not make any effect so you can use it normally. Hair transplant surgery gives better results for hair restoration.
