Hi guys,

I am scheduled for an hair transplant with Dr Koray Erdogan in six weeks time. Well, I have been booked since May. As I have finished university I have had certain things to deal with. Safe to say I cannot wait to fly to turkey for the procedure.

My story

At the age of 21 an close family member passed away (my Uncle). I loved this person to bits and my heart couldn't take it. I was diagnosed with severe depression. I had the depression for an year and this resulted in mood swings, sleepless nights (with nightmares), breakdowns and hair loss. During this period I postponed my entry to university as I was in no state to study. I noticed my hair started to thin around the temples badly. My family told me not to worry as I was ill and hopefully the hair should grow back. A year on once the illness had gone and my health improved but there was no sign of the hair growing back. I visited my GP who conducted blood tests and so on. Everything was normal. Please be aware, I have no hair loss for the past 3 years but DID have hair loss when I had depression which resulted in both temples now being bald.

I have tried no hair loss regime such as regaine or finasteride as I do not believe pills/chemicals are worth the risk long-term.

For the past year I have been researching hair transplant clinics aboard. There was no way I could afford an procedure here in the UK and secondary I do not trust the private medical sector here.

I contacted many hair transplants aboard but Dr Koray Erdogan stood out from the rest. I emailed ASMED in May and they swiftly replied. Judging from the photographs which I send, Dr Erdogan stated I would need 2400 grafts. I booked my hair transplant for October by sending a deposit to book the date. Currently my airline ticket, hotel and visa have been booked. And the operation date is 5 weeks away! I will carry on updating this thread with photographs and information. So far, ASMED have replied back to every single email with detailed responses and I can say they are really an professional team. I cannot wait to meet Dr Erdogan himself. As I am south-Asian (British-born) lets see how Dr Erdogan handles my case as I have read online he is popular with patients from Turkey and Europe.

To those who would say that I am too young (24 years od age) for an hair transplant please understand my hair loss was due to my medical problem. My father is 60 and he started to go bald at the age of 45; due to his illness. My younger brother is 22 and has an head thick of hair which resembles an hedgehog lol. My secondary reason for an hair transplant is that I am due for cochlear implant surgery in November as I am severe deaf. I need hair to cover the outer audio processor. Currently as I have no hair in the temples, it looks really odd when I let my hair grow; this results in hair growing from the sides, top of the head and back of the head. I look really odd and my hair loss has really changed my appearance.

I have an attached two images which one shows my hair before the loss and one image which shows my hair at its current state. Please take a look at my profile where there additional images and I hope to update when my hair transplant is done. Feel free to comment for information, advise and support. I think not many people have had an transplant with Dr Erdogan from this community so it would be great to hear your feedback.

Many thanks

First of all your hairloss in my opinion is caused by MPB. Although sickness depression and other things can make it appear premature your photos shows a pattern that is consitant with MPB. When you lose hair due to other factors you will see hairloss in other area that is not MPB.

Regardless you are now in this position. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a transplant at (24) as long as the doctor is not overly aggressive. There are people that are NW1 at 24 and NW6 at 35. At 25 I had a full head of hair and without meds or surgery I would probably be a NW5 right now. Do fool yourself your hairloss without meds with probably continue.

You have chosen a good doctor I wish you the best.

Thank you Lorenzo. I understand where your coming from. Currently I have no hair loss but if after the transplant hair loss does occur I will consider taking meds. Don't take me wrong when I said I don't agree with meds for hair loss, as my viewpoint is influenced meds should only be taken if one has hair loss. Nevertheless I will keep your advice in mind for the future. Do you think family history can determine when hair loss can begin?

Do you think family history can determine when hair loss can begin?

I will give you me as an example. My fathers side of the family very little to no hairloss. My brother 38 years old no hairloss. My mothers side has hairloss. Two cousins (my mothers sister) have the same hairloss as me. My grandfather was completely bald.

I have friends that have there whole family without any hairloss and he is completely bald. You know what it must be like to have a father that is an NW1 and a son at 26 that's a NW6. I have friends that all the younger brothers are losing there hair.

Family history says a lot but it doesn't tell the whole story.

Good example...I know what your saying; family history doesn't really matter. Every individual will be different I suppose.

Thanks Hariri, I was only interested in manual FUE due to graft survival. Tbh, I am blowing all my savings on this operation but for me at the end of the day it will be worth it! I seen pics of his new clinic and I did ask his secretary through email but he mentioned they are still in the process of moving clinic. I have read many of your posts on this forum and you seem very constructive in the knowledge of hair transplants :)

Yes you are right about that...

1) Quality Manual FUE

2) Special titanium manual punch

3) Hypothermosol grafts optimized holding solution

4) The Syris Scientific v300 magnifiers (innovative, patented cross polarized technology, so the doctor can see approximately 1 millimeter below the surface of the skin).

5) State of the art modern clinic with latest equipment located in the heart of Istanbul.

All of that without changing his very reasonable rates (EURO 2.5/ grafts) and he still try to help his patients by reducing the prices in special cases. That is what I call real care :)

Tbh, I have been researching hair transplants and surgeons since the past two years. I must have looked at many patient results but Dr Koray has always stood out. His 2000 grafts surgery looks like 4000 grafts. The price is well reasonable. 2.5 Euro (excellent exchange rate currently against the pound) and well suited to my budget too.

This is why Dr. Erdogan is using the Syris Scientific v300 magnifiers, read this paragraph:-

"FUE cannot be done properly with the naked eye. The Syris Scientific v300 magnifiers have an innovative, patented cross polarized technology, so the doctor can see approximately 1 millimeter below the surface of the skin. These magnifiers operate hands-free and shine a light on the surgical area for better vision."

The most important aspect which I was searching in surgeons was experience. I could have easily gone to India or Pakistan for an 'cheaper' job but would have it been worth it? I don't think so; this is something which you want right the first time, like Hariri said no reason to go back for touch up jobs etc. Dr Koray is vastly experienced and I hope to experience that 'wow' factor after my procedure. As you can see, Denny cannot wait for his!
