Regular Member Birdness Posted June 10, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 10, 2013 I see some individuals that use supplements. What exactly is MSM???? What is the right dose for both MSM and Biotin??? Thanks
Senior Member xtatic5 Posted June 11, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 11, 2013 I take 5mg biotin and ~7g msm daily. MSM is methylsulphonylmethane. While biotin increases the hair's thickness and growth rate, MSM makes the hair softer and lengthens the anagen phase (maximum length increase). MSM also has other health benefits unrelated to hair. Senior Member agenteye Posted June 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 25, 2013 I take similar doses of each as you xtatic5, however I take 1000 mg biotin and 7.5 g MSM daily. I am only 7 months post op from my procedure, but notice that it has made a tremendous difference in my overall hair quality. Did you notice a similar result since you've began these supplements? 4737 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 11/16/2012 Daily regimen: 1/4 Proscar (1.25 mg Finasteride), Rogaine Foam (twice daily), 1000 mcg Biotin, 1 combo Vitamin D/Calcium/Magnesium, 1500 mg Glocosamine, 750 mg MSM, 1200 mg Fish Oil, 2000 mg Vitamin C, Super B-Complex, 400 I.U Vitamin E. Senior Member xtatic5 Posted June 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 25, 2013 I made a lot of changes to my hair care routine simultaneously so it's hard to know what's owed to the supplements but yes, my hair has changed dramatically. It took 3 months for me to notice a big decrease in shedding/breakage, softer and shinier hair, and wider and more defined curls. The unwanted side effect, however, is the insane itching. I've made myself bleed trying to relieve the itch.
Senior Member agenteye Posted June 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 25, 2013 Glad your hair is looking good. Can I ask what other changes you've made to your supplement regimen?? 4737 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 11/16/2012 Daily regimen: 1/4 Proscar (1.25 mg Finasteride), Rogaine Foam (twice daily), 1000 mcg Biotin, 1 combo Vitamin D/Calcium/Magnesium, 1500 mg Glocosamine, 750 mg MSM, 1200 mg Fish Oil, 2000 mg Vitamin C, Super B-Complex, 400 I.U Vitamin E. Senior Member xtatic5 Posted June 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 25, 2013 As far as supplements it's just the biotin, MSM, 2g Vit C, and I eat tuna several times per week in lieu of fish oil pills. The other changes I mentioned are hair care related. When my new hair grows in I'll be changing my style and I want my hair to be in top shape. Senior Member Spanker Posted June 26, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 26, 2013 Personally I am not a big supplement guy. I think these only work if you are deficient in them in the first place (as far as hair goes). I could be wrong though, I have never asked my doctor.
