My new journey.

Not sure if this is the right section to post this.

Since this is a hair forum I have shared my journey from balding to my hair transplant. I was a confident person before my transplant and it definitely helped after my hair transplant. No more looking so much in the mirror trying to style my hair in the best position to make it look fuller. Honestly didn’t think about it anymore.

Last November in a matter of two days I lost all my hair and honestly could careless. Why you ask? I will explain. Last June just before Italy was playing there first match of the European Cup I noticed my glands were swollen. Fast forward 5 months later, after many different specialist and misdiagnoses I found out in October that I had Stage 4 Lymphoma Cancer. During this time my weight went from 185 to 138 ( now Im 165 and perfect) So after my first of six chemo my hair all fell out. It didn’t bother me at all except the fact my shower was filled with hair. I knew this was part of healing. After my sixth chemo my hair started growing back but I had to go through a bone marrow transplant. Not like the hair transplant that you are excited and nervous about but one that is meant to save my life. In order to have a BMT you need to go through many tests before the can do it. You need to be very healthly in order to have a BMT or else your odds of dying during it are a lot higher. After the test I was able to use my own stem cells which was great news since none of my family was matches. I have been in remission since my second chemo and felt stronger and great before my transplant. Everything was fine before that but the BMT was the most difficult thing I have ever gone through. Ask Joe he saw me during my worst time. Three weeks in the hospital and three of those day in ICU. Its like going through hell and back, unless you have gone through it you would never understand. Today I am roughly 50 days after my BMT and my hair is slowly growing back and I am starting to feel better.

I wanted to share this because when I hear people say things like. I am so depressed because I am losing my hair, I wont leave the house because of my hairloss or wont leave without my hat on it kind of bothers me. We all only have one life and when you are sick you honesty don’t care about your hair. What made things easier was that I was relatively healthy. I don’t drink don’t do drugs and worked out six days a week, my only bad habit was that I used to smoke. A hair transplant should be like the cherry on the banana split, not something that changes how you look at life or at least it shouldn’t. I have met a lot of people that were really messed up before their hair transplant and are still messed up after. I have seen some of the best hair transplant where a patient is not happy. I am sure all hair transplant doctors have gone through this. Hair transplants done by the right clinic will definitely change your appearance drastically for the best.

I received a lot of support from everyone that helps me remain stronger. The whole Hasson and Wong staff has been fantastic and supportive.

I didn’t write this for pity or anything. I never felt sorry for myself and only wanted to fight and get it over with. So far Im winning the cancer fight, bald or not is irrelevant. Hairloss is a part of life and shouldn’t change how you look at everything. If you are able to get a transplant fantastic if not move on and enjoy! Life is short.

One more thing for some of the posters I will still always have a pitbull mentality when that dies I die. ;)

Congrats on the success of your cancer treatment.

However, I'm not entirely sure what your intents are with the HT comments. You for sure know how hair can effect people. It shouldn't, but it does, like any other aesthetic quality.

Nick my comments are my opinion. My views are losing your hair should be no reason to make your life stand still. Some people don't enjoy life because they are too concerned about hairloss. I understand it easier said then done.

Taco thanks. Apparently the hair is suppose to come back thicker. If it doesn't I am going to hide in my house and wear a hat everywhere I go....;)

Lorenzo,

Thank you for sharing such a personal story. I fully understand where you are coming from. As devastating as hair loss is to those of us who have suffered it, I agree that it does not compare to a life-threatening condition like cancer.

Discussing what you are dealing with may help to put things in perspective for others who come here for support.

Of course, I wish you the best in your fight and I'm glad to hear that you are winning the battle.
