Regular Member baldboy7 Posted May 13, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted May 13, 2013 Hello everyone I'm 22 yrs old and suffering from receding hairline. My hair started to thin since I was 14years old and now I'm on narwood 3A scale . I have bought concealers and waiting for their arrival. Is it the right time for me to undergo HT or else should I try some non surgical methods. Please help me. Thanks
Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted May 14, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted May 14, 2013 7, 22 is likely a bit too young for a hair transplant procedure. I think at this point in time, your best bet would be a consultation with a physician specializing in hair loss to determine what is causing the loss. If it is androgenic alopecia (genetic patterned hair loss), the physician will likely recommend some preventive/stabilizing measures like minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia). After you've used these medications and halted your progressive hair loss, surgical hair restoration may become a good option a bit down the road. Good luck! Regular Member Hair2d2 Posted May 16, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted May 16, 2013 I agree that 22 is too young. Though there is no set age and every case is different. However, I think it is more responsible to advise you to consult a doctor about taking propecia/fin first and trying that for a couple years to see if you can stabilize the hair loss first. If you can't stabilize the hair loss then what's the point of going through a HT? Ultimately there isn't enough donor hair in the back of the head to take to replace all of it on the top of your head if you can't stop the loss, well, not without making the back of your head completely bare that is. Try Rogaine and Propecia first.
Regular Member Throwaway28925 Posted May 16, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted May 16, 2013 I'm 23 (nearly 24) I have been losing hair on my hair line since I was 17, and I am booked in to have a HT. Reasons for this is that my Dad has the same hairline as me and no loss anywhere else. I'm not on propecia as I believe my hair has stabilised (based on my Dad's head). I'm not saying it's a good idea to do what I'm doing, but if you really desperately want it sorted (like I do) and you feel that your hair loss has stabilised, then go for it. Although, it is normally preferred to do the year fin test.
Regular Member Alex1 Posted May 17, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted May 17, 2013 Go see a specialist first, they can consult the various options with you, whether it is in fact necessary or whether you can take supplicants or creams. I had a friend who went for a consultation and was told he could not have the procedure just yet, and needs to wait a year.
