Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted December 11, 2012 Regular Member Share Posted December 11, 2012 This 30 year old is 6 years out from an unsatisfactory sparse, pluggy result from our area. Yesterday we trimmed his previously placed grafts, made slits as close as possible to them without damaging those roots(they’re growing and paid for…) and packed the area. Additionally he had a horrible scar that we revised with a 3 layer closure. (the middle picture in the scar sequence is with the deep layer in holding tension off of the skin edges before the skin sutures are placed) Hopefully we’ll all see a huge improvement next holiday season. He is thinning further back and has a strong history of familial hair loss so we may be back here again. He lives close by and seems to be willing to stop in for pics, plus he is computer savvy and may be willing to post his experience next week after sutures come out. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted December 18, 2012 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 18, 2012 I gave this fellow his pics when he got his sutures out, so he could start his own separate blog on this topic. He said he'd have time over the holidays so hopefully we'll get updates as he grows in. Dr. Lindsey William H. Regular Member hairtodaygonetmrw2 Posted January 10, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted January 10, 2013 That is an excellent closure job. I'm sure his scar will be pencil thin!
Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted January 15, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 15, 2013 I think it will be a decent scar. I'll make an effort to show it in future pics. Senior Member gobble Posted January 20, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 20, 2013 Yikes, the picture with the head cut open is pretty gross. I'm glad I couldn't see what they were doing to me.
Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted January 28, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 28, 2013 No update on scar... Most guys promise me they'll be back at a month for a scar check....as its free. Probably 60% show (who live locally) and probably 15% of travellers, who promise to email me a scar pic at a month, actually do. And occasionally someone sends pics every week. We've had 2 guys like that recently. For these guys...the question is always, when is the hair going to fall out....my response is always 4 weeks. And then they were both shocked when it fell out at 4 weeks. Well, maybe shocked isn't the right word, but I guess mild surprise is. Of the 2 choices, I'd rather have too many pics sent in than not enough. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. Regular Member hairtodaygonetmrw2 Posted January 28, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted January 28, 2013 Totally understand doc. Do you usually notice shockloss in the patient photos who do share 4+ week updates?
Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted February 4, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted February 4, 2013 He showed up late last week at 6 weeks. Here are the pics. He's extruded a couple of the absorbable sutures just below the skin. While his scar remains thin, its a little more irritated than I like so I'll check him again in a month and he's to continue the vitamin E. Dr. Lindsey William H. Senior Member Mickey85 Posted February 4, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted February 4, 2013 Thanks for the update, how does one extrude the absorbable sutures? It looks like he has some shockloss? I think the scar will thin out nice. The only 2 threads you will ever need: Revamped Advantages/Disadvantages of FUE. Myths dispelled. Educate yourself Everything FUE. Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted February 4, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted February 4, 2013 10% of my hair, skin cancer, facelift, or other site patients extrude a dissolvable stitch before it dissolves. Usually just luck, or lack thereof, and usually of no consequence. Just a hassle. Given this fellow had a previous surgery, and what I'd say is a poor scar last time elsewhere....he is certainly at higher risk for a poor scar this time, but I'm hopeful that it will turn out nice. But, we'll hopefully take a peek in a month to make sure. Dr. Lindsey William H.
