Regular Member sr0d Posted May 29, 2012 Regular Member Posted May 29, 2012 Hi all...hoping to get multiple perspectives from experience here. I'm one of those "late bloomers" and haven't had the best growth when compared to others at the 5 month mark so I'm holding out for big things this next month. I met with my doctor (Dr. Sharon Keene) 2 weeks ago and she said that pretty much at 6 months any hair that is ever going to grow will have done so by 6 months. After which it is all about maturity. This seems a little different then what I read from various folks on this forum. I keep hearing that new hair growth continues through 8 months. Can someone share any of their personal experiences after 6 months? Thanks.
Bill - Seemiller Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 sr0d, In my opinion, hair transplant patients can see new hair growth after 6 months although, typically, most of the new hairs have at least started to grow. Keep in mind that transplanted hair typically starts off as thin, fine and colorless and aren't visible to the naked eye. As it matures, it grows, thickens and darkens and without even realizing it, you have hair. Typically however, new hair growth (though not visible immediately) can be felt with your fingertips if you gently touch near and around your scalp. At 5 months however, I wouldn't overscrutinize this and just sit back and do your best to enjoy the ride. You've selected an excellent surgeon in Dr. Keene and I trust she'll continue to take excellent care of you. Best wishes, Bill
Regular Member sr0d Posted May 31, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted May 31, 2012 Hi Bill...thank you for your reply. As a long time viewer of the forum, I respect your insights and knowledge you have shared over the years as many who like myself have questions about expectations. I agree Dr. Keene and her staff have been great and perhaps my expectations were too high in terms of the growth I expected to see at this point. I have to keep telling myself it will eventually grow. My growth has been very patchy and uneven. Is this common in your experience? If so when does the growth generally even out? Regards, Steve
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted May 31, 2012 Senior Member Posted May 31, 2012 Most of the hairs that are going to grow will pop up by six months. However, it is possible to get new growth later. Case in point, when I was at 10 months I was still getting "growth zits" in the recipient region. It's just that the later on you are in the process the less likely you are going to notice a substantial difference. But you could still see a modest difference nonetheless.
