Regular Member Barry1108 Posted May 9, 2012 Regular Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 Hi, I am flying to Bangkok from England this Saturday and am due to have my HT with DR Path on Tuesday and I am totally panicking! I always read these forums and the last few days I have read some scary stuff that is making me freak out. In particular - HT doesn't work as often as they should (no growth) HT is painful and it takes a long time afterwards to get back to normal sleeping patterns. HT scar is detectable and grows bigger over time. etc etc.... Could people who have undergone a HT please re-assure me of some facts?? I am panicking about making a huge mistake!!! Senior Member Gettinold Posted May 9, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 Some facts about me, based 100% on personal experience: The doctor prescribed pain pills for me, yet I never felt the need to take a single one of them...never even opened the bottle. Slept ok the first night, wadded up a pillow and slept with my head hanging off for a few nights and only woke up a few times, not out of pain, just needed to re-adjust. I'm 1 1/2 months out and already seeing growth. My scar is completely hidden by my hair. I really dont undertand why anyone would pay for a HT and then buzz themselves, the only way you can see the scar. My head felt "tight" for about a week, then felt normal, never really bothered me. The boredom during the procedure is the worst part. You're going to a reputable doctor from what I've seen here, shouldn't worry about anything.. have fun and stop being a wuss
Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted May 9, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 Chill winston! You'll be fine, the operation doesn't hurt the first night sleep is a bit awkward and painful so just take some sleeping tablets and you'll wake up a lot better. Hts are not a exact science the odd graft may not grow but with a good surgeon 95% will which is fine but I've never heard of anyone with no growth. You may have read a comment of mine regarding the scar growing but that's just the process it goes through its invisible even without hair in the way then it slowly appears over the next 3 months to about 2mm but that's fine as your hair will hide it at a blade 4 cut you don't expect the scar to be invisible without hair covering do you? Out of interest what attracted you to Dr Pat? I don't know much about him but he's recommended here so must be ok. The reason I ask is your travelling from the uk to Thailand so you must have him as the best surgeon in the world for you. Bonkerstonker! http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1977 Update I'm now on 12200 Grafts, hair loss has been a thing of my past for years. Also I don't use minoxidil anymore I lost no hair coming off it. Reduced propecia to 1mg every other day. My surgeons were Dr Hasson x 4, Dr Wong x 2 Norton x1 I started losing my hair at 19 in 1999 I started using propecia and minoxidil in 2000 Had 7 hair transplants over 12200 grafts by way of strip but 700 were Fue From Norton in uk
Regular Member Barry1108 Posted May 9, 2012 Author Regular Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 Thanks for the replies Bonkerstonker and gettinold, I think I am just having a panic because the point of no return is approaching. I will take your advice and have some sleeping pills with me for the first few nights and see how I feel. I am not one for melodrama so I do think I will be fine, like I say just having a panic. The thought of the scar never bothered me at all until I read a few comments on here about it stretching etc.... And to answer your other question Bonkerstonker - I read plenty of reviews on here and emailed plenty of recommended docs for consults etc... Dr Path's record seems to stand up against most and although I know people say not to think of cost, unfortunately my finances did restrict me slightly, but I am happy with my choice. I have been told I need around 3000 grafts and the cost for that in some of the US/Canada based docs was more than double that of Dr Path. Thanks again for your replies!! Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted May 9, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 Right got you pal I just wondered. Once again the thought of what's happening to you during the operation is way way way worse than it hurts I expected it to be quite unpleasant but I enjoyed op day as all you can think of is your new future. Anasthetic doesn't work as well on me as normal people so I've felt what the op feels like without anasthetic for a few moments and it's still not as bad as you think it would be. your doc should give you all the drugs and sleeping tablets when you leave surgery. Senior Member Bucksred Posted May 9, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 I was worried brfore and after, it's only normal. There's always a risk with surgery, but like bonkerstonker says, thinking about the positives kept me happy and focused.
Senior Member hair1978 Posted May 9, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 If you browse enough of this forum, you will read that the procedure is not that bad. If anything, the procedure will go by faster than you expect. No need to worry. For me, I never gave it a second thought. Even the night before, I went about my usual routine (watch TV and play video games) and was able to fall asleep without thinking too much about my life changing day. Perhaps easy for me to say because I trust my doctor and I knew I was in good hands with the clinic. You should only feel panic if you are about to get married. =P Hair is just a cosmetic procedure. Just think about how nice it will be to finally have the hair you want. Good luck. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2294

Senior Member Icecreamman Posted May 9, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted May 9, 2012 Ditto what all have said. I couldn't sleep at all the night before and was a mess. And when it was all over it was far less worse than what I had made it in my mind. Like bonkers said, chill!
Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted May 10, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted May 10, 2012 Try to relax. I've been through it twice now and the pain/discomfort was minimal both times. You're in good hands. I too was extremely nervous going in the first time. Almost got up and ran away until the doc starting cutting. Once that happened I was surprised that a great calm came over me. I knew there was no going back and became at peace with my decision. Years later, I'm still at peace with that decision. Good luck!
