Regular Member cperry23jd Posted May 25, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted May 25, 2011 Hey everyone, currently I have been using Rogaine foam on my temples for my gradual receding hairline. I have only been doing this for about 2 months, but have already noticed smaller hairs filling in the thinning temples. What I really would like to know is if Finasteride has an effect on hairlines? I have read countless blogs that claim it has no effect on the hairline, but I feel as if these are people who have just become too frustrated with their hair loss and are trying to be negative to everyone else to make themselves feel better. From what I understand, Finasteride can do great wonders on the hairline for some. I do realize that finasteride is meant for the crown and obviously the effects are different for everyone and it may have no effect as well. I'm just curious and I want to leave this thread open for discussion on what you may think. Is Finasteride of some sort, worthwhile for maintaining and potentially having minimal growth in the hairline and temple regions?
JoeKid0000
From what I've read there are some people that do see positive results on their hairlines when using finasteride. I'm not sure what the percentage is (I don't think anyone would have a good percentage) but it seems to be a small number regardless. Most men don't seem to get any benefit from the drug on that part of the head unfortunately. The only thing you can do is try it for a year or so and monitor your progress. Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted May 25, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 25, 2011 The information i have gathered over the years from research and my own experiance is rogaine rebuilt my hairline when it was claimed it couldn't by the sellers and finasteride protected my hair in the front and the back for ten years solid but i can not say if that grew more hair or not i just know i didn't lose any while on it anywhere on my head. Apparently when they first did studys on minoxidil and finasteride for some reason the research wasn't very extensive with regards to where you could use it on the scalp or how effective it was this must of been a cost issue so they weren't allowed to claim it did grow in the front and also for finasteride they didn't do enough research with pregnant women so they had to put the warning on the box. Senior Member Spanker Posted May 25, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 25, 2011 I have been on it for 9 months without any luck in my temples or hairline. I suggest you get on it. You are every young. For you to be losing at 20 yrs old, it is likely you will see more loss. Especially if you are not using preventive measure. I started losing my hair around 19 and at my consultation I was told I might become a Norwood 6.

Your dht effectible follicles are made at birth it doesn't have anything to do with how aggressive or how young you are.
