Shaving recipient area post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my HT op 17 days ago and need to get back to work next week. However, my recipient area is still showing no signs of shedding and it will be very obvious when I go back to work that I've had a HT.

Is it okay to shave the recipient area at this stage? The scabs are long gone and the transplanted hairs seem fairly secure in my scalp now.

I would never have had the transplant if it meant walking into work and everyone asking, "Have you had a hair transplant?" - a subtle change over time was what I was after...not a "whoa!" effect :)

You want to shave the recipient area (top), but not the back and sides? Wouldn't that more be much more obvious?

On another thread one of the docs on here said that grafts can be shaven if necessary. Also when I was posting questions about how to hide things at work, there were lots of creative excuses people have used to throw coworkers off like hair got cinged lighting the grille or tried bleaching hair and burnt scalp etc. Anyway, Good luck, I know what you're going through!

I guess it's the "tugging" on the newly transplanted hairs that I'm worried about. I believe that after 10 days they are firmly rooted so after 18 days now it should be okay. Would just like confirmation from a professional or someone else with good knowledge of the recovery process.

18 days the grafts should be secure. Just shave cautiously and you should be fine.
