dak8
I had a transplant in August of '09 (2,700 grafts to cover Type III Vertex (3.5"W) that creeps forward). Took the proscar generic daily and applied minoxidil once a day (I had a bad reaction if I did more than that). I stopped the drugs at the 1 year mark, per my paperwork. Right now, I'm looking at a nice comb-over on the front and a pretty much naked back-of-the-head. I would prefer to ask an 'unbiased' group a couple of questions: Realistically, should I be seeing dramatic results by now? What should those results be? I know that it will never be as thick as it was when I was 16, but will I always need to do the comb-over type of maintenance?
Senior Member Spanker Posted December 14, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted December 14, 2010 You should be looking at the finaly results right now. Sorry to say. You will prolly need another surgery or deal with what you got. Also, I do not know who would tell you to stop taking proscar or minox. Both of these only work as long as you use them. If you are worried about your hair and are not having bad side effects you should get back on then if you have any hair to save. Before and after pics are always helpful with this type of advice. You should definately get back on the proscar and yyou may need to look at another proceedure. Who did your transplant? dak8
Thanks Spanker. I'll get back on both. I was told that the minox would initiate graft growth, but that it wasn't needed in the long-term. Larry Shapiro did my procedure. I'll schedule my follow-up. By the way: the 'nice comb-over' thing I mentioned was supposed to be a little sarcastic... I'm not wanting a comb-over. The sarcasm didn't translate well. Senior Member multiplier Posted December 15, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted December 15, 2010 I've been on Minox and Finasteride for 10 years and it (in addition to a small HT back then) is responsible for why I've kept a lot of that hair. I've got no plans to go off meds as I'd lose everything I've been working to maintain.
