Finasteride question: is it ok to take 2.5mg?

Hi all,

 

I have a question. I get my Proscar pills and use a pill cutter to divy them up. The new generic ones I've been getting are very hard to cut up into 4 pieces. Is it ok if I instead cut them in half and just take the 2.5mg of Fin every day rather than the 1.25mg? Cost is not an issue for me since my insurance pays for most of these.

It'd be ok to up the dosage but I wouldn't unless you are seeing more hair loss than usual. In other words, save the higher dosage for when you feel the effectiveness of 1 MG or 1.25 MG has worn off.

 

As spex said, pill cutting shouldn't be the reason to up the dosage. I just use a knife to split mine. Some days I probably get .75 MG and other days I probably get around 1.80, but it probably all balances itself out in the end.

interesting charts spex, and thanks for the link! so fin 0.2mg inhibits 61%, fin 1mg inhibits 68% DHT and fin 5mg inhibits only 69% DHT.... i still think, personally, that it's better not to take more than you need. less risk of side effects.

If your pill cutter is the same as the one I started out with, I'm not surprised you're having trouble with it. I quickly moved on to scalpel blades. They have to be sharp and it's surprising how the tablets can dull the blade after a while, but it's easy to get four pieces with a sharp blade.

 

 

I just bite into my tablet and happy days. One day i might get slightly more than the other but the intake is regular and in appropriate dose to help fight the evil DHT.

I would barely be able to get two bites out of a fin tablet, let alone 4. :eek:
